Hi Xavier, I'm talking about making the change via the REST interface, rather than through a setting in ArcGIS Online (AGOL). If you view the details for your tile layer in AGOL, then you will see a URL listed under Map Contents that should look something like: http://tiles.arcgis.com/tiles/<token>/arcgis/rest/services/<name of your tile layer>/MapServer Open that link in a browser window, and you'll see the Services Directory listing for your Tile Layer. Now, edit that URL in browser's address bar and insert "/admin" between ".../rest" and "/services..., so you have something like: http://tiles.arcgis.com/tiles/<token>/arcgis/rest/admin/services/<name of your tile layer>/MapServer?token... Open that link and you'll have the admin view for your Tile Layer. At the bottom of that page are the supported operations, and you want to click on "Edit". (You may be prompted to login again.) This brings up the Edit Tile Service page, where you want to choose "true" for the "Export Tiles Allowed" setting. After making that change, click on the "Edit Tile Service" button at the bottom of the page to save your new setting. Now you should be able to download your tile layer for off-online use in Collector! Hope that helps... -peter

Hi Amanda, We want the look-and-fell offered by the Map Tour layout, rather than the Swipe map, the large image and text real-estate on one half the screen and the carousel of thumbnails along the bottom. If we could figure out how to turn the Map Tour's map into a swipe map, that would be a great solution. Is that what you're suggesting? Any pointers on how to combine the two templates to achieve that? Thanks!

I would like to build a Map Tour story map that incorporates a scanned, georeferenced paper map over the imagery basemap, but offers a way to turn the former layer on/off. Is the an easy way to add the layer widget to a Map Tour to enable such capabilities? Anyone built a custom map app that does something similar that I might look at the code for guidance? Thanks!

Using Collector 10.2.7 for iOS I am receiving "AppFramework error 5." when I try to download a map that includes a Tile Layer published from an uploaded tile package. Viewing the service URL for the tile layer, it looks like the problem is to that it has "Export Tiles Allowed" set to "false". I'm not sure if there is a step along the way where I could have set that value to true? If I manually go in and change it to true (by going to .../rest/admin/services... and using "Edit" to change that value), then everything works fine. So, is there a step I missing where I can make sure the exporting of tiles is allowed, or a place in the regular ArcGIS Online interface to set it? I'm starting in ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2.2 and publish the tile package via Share As --> Tile Package. I choose to have it uploaded to my organizational instance of AGOL under the "Tile Package" options. I then go to the item's details in AGOL and select "Publish". I don't see way during the publish process, or by editing the resulting tile layer's details to set the Export Tile value. Am I missing a step? Thanks!

The URLs you have point to Google's preview tool, which displays the image embedded within their tool. To get the direct URL for the image, one quick way is to right-click on the image and "Copy image URL" (or your browser's equivalent). You can than paste and use that URL in a Story Map.

I changed the two Picture Marker symbols to Simple Marker symbols for the point layer. The map download still causes Android to crash, and iOS the error is now "key not found". (The map looks fine in AGOL and works if I use it in Collector while online.)

Richard, if you're starting with your data in ArcMap, and publishing from there, then you can go through basically the same process that Dagmar describes, but using ArcMap. (It is similar to the way you had to do labeling before support got added to ArcGIS Online.) ESRI provided a couple nice blog posts back in the day describing in detail how to do this: Adding labels to ArcGIS Online web maps: Part 1 Adding labels to ArcGIS Online web maps: Part 2

Some maps I'm trying to download in Collector are crashing Android or throwing an error on iOS (Invalid JSON. pictureMaker failed to create image). Any suggestions as to what might be wrong or need to be changed about the maps to address that error?

I borrowed the symbology approach your illustrated to update a few of our problematic maps, and I can confirm that it removed the lag on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition running Android 4.4.2. Thanks Russell Roberts! Any pointers from this on what to avoid, until the bug is fixed? Is the issue arising because the symbology of these maps was defined in ArcMap and then published to AGOL? And/or because some of the symbols used do not match those available in AGOL's symbol sets? For the time being, is it a best practice to define the symbology in AGOL for maps you want to use off-line in Collector on Android? Maybe just avoid custom or "Add an Image" symbols in general for now?

We see the lag when trying to collect or edit a feature on all of our Android devices. Most of those devices also show the same lag when trying to do any operation in Collector, such as opening the offline map or trying to pan/zoom around the map. Glad to hear there is a fix making its way into a future release. Please do update the thread when you have an idea of when it will be available. Meanwhile, is there anything we might do differently to avoid triggering this bug? Something to do or avoid doing when creating maps and features we want to make use of off-line on Android devices? Thanks!

I've added your account to an "Android Collector Issue" group, and shared two maps with it that exhibit the problematic behaviour: "Camp Michigania Tree Inventory" and "Mobile GIS Collector Demo". Thanks for taking a look!

Hi Russ, the maps and features are on our organizational instance of AGOL. Is there any easy way to share them from there with you, or a way you can recommend to easily move a copy of it all from there to the public AGOL instance?

Thanks, Patrick, however, there are no .tpk files involved here. These are all very simple web maps with imagery and labels as the basemap, and just a single feature layers and covering small areas. The map downloads in Collector are all <5MB. I probably should've mentioned originally too that the maps all work just fine on Collector for iOS.
