You should be able to achieve #2 by changing the field's format in the pop-up. By default, date fields are displayed in pop-ups (hence, in Collector as well) using a date-only format (from Configure pop-ups😞 For date fields that include time, select a format that includes both. By default, only dates are displayed. So choose an appropriate format that supports both date and time for your field, tick the box for "Show time", and then you will see both date and time displayed in your Web Map's pop-ups and in Collector. Note that not all date formats will support displaying both date and time. Only short-date formats will display both; the "Show time" checkbox is grayed out when a other date formats are selected. This tidbit is unfortunately buried on the Troubleshooting page: Time does not appear in the date field. Only short date formats display time (for example, 12/31/1999 and 31/12/1999). Time is not displayed as part of the date field for other date formats. To display time for date fields, you need to configure the date field in the pop-up to use one of the short date formats (and check the box to show time). This particular device and GPS do appear to work with Collector beta (10.4.0 build 1021), albeit with a significant, several second lag of the blue dot being updated on the screen. I have initiated a thread in the Collector Beta Forum for further discussion on this.

The GPS blue dot in Collector updates correctly for a brief time whenever I open a map in Collector and then freezes after several seconds. This is on an Xplore XSLATE D10 tablet running Android 5.1 and Collector 10.3.7. If I switch to another app and then come back to Collector, or if it turn the GPS off in Collector, wait a few seconds, and then on the GPS again, the blue dot appears to start working and updating, but then freezes again after the same brief time interval. This happens regardless of whether I am working with an on-line map or an on-device map, whether the Android Location mode is set to High Accuracy or Device only, and whether I have an Internet connection or not. In other applications on the device, such as Google Maps, the GPS works just fine. Has anyone else encountered this problem in Collector? Anyone have Collector working on an XSLATE D10? Is there some setting we are overlooking somewhere? Thanks!

In practice, we've found that only the first two formats seem to support both date and time entry across all three versions of Collector: iOS, Windows, and Android. (If it's mentioned in the Collector documentation somewhere, then we've missed seeing it...) Once you've picked one of those two formats (m/d/y or d/m/y), then you are able to tick the "Show time" checkbox. (That checkbox is hiding under the drop-down list of formats in Pete Crosier's screen shot above.) You should see something like this in your Configure Attributes window after you select the row with your field, and select one of those formats: And, checking the box, it becomes... Now you should be able to pick a date and time in Collector on your iPhone.

We use SAML with both ArcGIS Online and on-premise Portals, in our case we are using Shibboleth as our identify provider. We have not had any login issues with the current versions of Collector on any of the three platforms, iOS, Android, or Windows.

Hi Owen, Thank you for following up. As a matter of fact I just did another Map Journal workshop yesterday, and we are still seeing this issue occasionally, but not as often as in the past. Someone changes something on their map, such adding a feature to a Map Note layer or editing such a feature, and Save shows as disabled for the web map. Panning or zooming around the web map, or toggling layers on/off, does not seem to help. They have to close the window -- loosing their changes -- back all the way out of editing the Section, save their story map if they haven't yet (which does work), and then re-load the browser tab. Otherwise, the web map's Save remains broken on subsequent attempts to edit the web map; once it stops working, you have to restart. We didn't have time for too many attempts at generating the problem deliberately, and we were unable to find a way to reliably reproduce the issue. It does still have the feel a race-condition related issue though. Some of the students who experienced this issue yesterday, are the ones who know their way around the best and are clicking through things the fastest. -peter

We were successful in testing the eval version, so we went ahead and purchased the full version. For us, when we installed the Sensor Driver the correct parameters were COM3 and 4800 baud, if that helps. -peter

In Windows 10 Collector no longer has direct access to the Toughpad's GPS receiver's data stream. You need to install 3rd-party software (e.g., GPSComplete) to feed the GPS's data stream to the Windows Locator Service, thereby making it visible to Collector. When you have a network connection, then Collector is showing the location that the network is reporting to the Windows Locator Service. After asking students to pause a few seconds after the save process completed, we had many fewer occurrences of a unexpectedly disabled Save button. There were still a few, however, it wasn't clear if the students had waited long enough or not. Some students did discover that editing a Map Note feature's details would not enable the Save button. They had to slightly shift the map or change the zoom, before the Save button was enabled. Not sure if that is a related issue, however, I'm hoping it disappears with the forthcoming release as well... Thanks!

Thanks, Greg. That sounds like a plausible explanation, especially given the slight increase in save times we observe with so many students working at once. During our session tomorrow I will warn students to be careful to pause a few beats before moving on, and to not do anything immediately after they save their map. (If you want to coordinate any monitoring from your side during the actual activity, our next session will be 24 February with ~20 students authoring Map Journals on Rap & Radicalism around the world, however, they will not be using any feature or tile layers in common, if you suspect that is what caused the issues we saw with saving edits to Web Maps.) Hi Gregory, We have experienced the problem saving web maps inside the Map Journal builder in multiple browser/OS combos: one classroom was Windows 7 and Chrome, and another was MacOS X 10.10 and Chrome or Safari. Not all students in each classroom experienced the problem. Also, in the Mac classrooms, students selected between Chrome or Safari, depending on their personal preference, however, there was no correlation between which browser they used and who experienced issue. So it really feels like something upstream is the culprit. Each student worked on their own Map Journal. Each student had one or more of their own web maps they worked on from within that Map Journal. Those web maps did all share six tile layers of historic maps in common. Each student also added their own Map Note(s) layer to their web map(s). We didn't notice any issues saving the web maps as the students set things up, and were following along as group. Once they had the framework in place, however, then we turned them loose, and that is when some of them started experiencing problems saving their web maps. Also, we have done similar group Map Journal exercises since November 2015 in the same computer classrooms without issue. Those sessions, however, involved fewer students working simultaneously (10-15), and there were no feature or tile layers in common in those projects. -peter

We are encountering problems saving web maps being edited within the Map Journal Builder. This has been happening since last November's update to Story Maps, which added the capability to edit web maps from within the Map Journal Builder. A fantastic addition by the way! The symptom is that students open the web map editing from within a section in the Map Journal builder, then they edit something on their web map (e.g., add/remove a map note feature, add/remove layer), but the Save button is disable. If they select Cancel, instead of Save, then a popup appears telling them that they have unsaved changes in their web map. If they cancel that popup, then the Save button is still disabled. Selecting Cancel and then acknowledging the popup to close the web map editor does, as warned and as expected, result in their changes being lost. The issue only seems to arise when we have a large number of students (20+) working on Map Journals at the same time. It seems to randomly affect some students and not others. If a student does cancel out (losing their changes), and then tries to edit the web map again immediately, then sometimes it works fine, others they still cannot save. Once they've run into the problem, they have also tried reloading the Map Journal Builder, however, sometimes that fixes things for a bit, others it still fails right away when they try. To the best of our knowledge, this issue is only arising when we have 20+ people editing their own Map Journals at the same time during a class session. We haven't had reports of it occurring outside of class, when they are not all working simultaneously. During class session, the Story Map website seems to be very responsive, so we don't suspect any networking issues. We have not found a way to reliably reproduce the problem. It has happened, however, both times we have had large classes using the Map Journal Builder since the integration of web map editing inside the builder. Any suggestions you have for alleviating this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. -peter

One way we've tackled this in Collector is to use related tables. For a main feature, have related tables for "top", "left", "right", etc., and attach your images from the different perspectives to the corresponding feature in the related tables. It is slightly more cumbersome to add the photos this way, as you have to move between related items, rather than having it all in the same place, but it works. -peter
