You should be able to export your Obj objects and City Engine shapes in the same scene. Be sure you have both the obj and shape selected in the viewport....and that "Export Geometry" is set to "Models with Shape fallback". Regarding the "extra reflections"...it sounds like maybe you have some double sided faces, culling issue, or a reflection set in your rule. Could you post a screenshot of the reflection you are referring to?

Great! Thank you!! It worked. I had tried that before, but I think because I wasn't at an open space in the viewport when I drag and drop the new imagery it was not letting me import.

-I want to replace the imagery A in my scene with a Imagery B. -Imagery B is a smaller area so I am assuming I will need to change the DEM as well because of CE stretching imagery over DEM. (See Attached...the red box is the area of the Imagery B (new image)) -When i use the "browse" buttons under the terrain's Layer attributes for "Map" and "Texture" to replace Map/Texture A with Map/Texture B....the result is the new imagery being the same size as the old. (B has the same extent as A even though I changed the DEM and Imagery to a smaller one). And ,therefore, does not line up with my data. How can I replace my DEM and Imagery AND extent? I have a large mix of Rule based models from GIS data AND some manually placed static models from other software (these models dont have a spatial reference)...so I would like to be able to add the new Map/Texture without having to rebuild a whole new scene. Thanks.

I am using the Severe Weather Public Information map, but sometimes the map does not update. When I refresh the page, every layer turns itself back on. How do I keep the layers I originally turned off from coming back on when I refresh the page? (for example, I only want to see US weather radar and not the other countries)

Excellent! That is good to know. David is the person that helped me as well. I am glad you heard back. As for suggestion #2...Normalizing may have been a bad term. I meant linear mapping your range of values. newRasterPixel = 1 + ((currentRasterPixel - 3) * (65535 - 0) / 15 - 3) but nevermind that...Davids way is easier.

That is interesting. While I am not sure of the answer, I do have a few suggestions. 1. In the LumenRT Exporter, their is a script input option at the bottom of the dialogue box. Write a script to reclassify the terrain values from 0 to 65535. This will prevent that from messing up the terrain in CE because it takes place during export. 2. Reclassify a copy of the terrain (normalize 0 to 65535) in ArcGIS before you import it into City Engine. Use this as your terrain before you export....While this may look ridiculous in CE viewport....it might give you the result you need in LumenRT because currently you are getting "flat" terrain with a small range of values...so a very large range could result in the actual terrain. 3. Get E-On LumenRT on the phone! The reason I say this is because, while the LumenRT software is awesome for scene creation, it is very buggy. I kept losing animations and textures in my scenes after hours of work....I emailed them files and never heard back. I kept pushing until a support tech called me and they talked me through the problem...after waiting almost 2 months. Good luck .... I will be interested to know how this works out.

This is a continuation of this post: https://community.esri.com/people/MicahShane/status/14122#comments I could not add images to the previous posts comments so i created this discussion question. This is an example of a footprint in my CityEngine viewport.. This is what it looks like in ArcGIS Earth.... It shrinks the size of the building significantly. You can tell by the underlying parking lot the difference in size.

IT WORKS!!! Thanks! worked for all windows and floors, but I could not get it to work with my outer walls , However, I found out if I apply a small amount of opacity (0.99) to the wall...it shows up at all angles.

You could also use other software with CityEngine to create an animation. CityEngine will allow you to export your scenes as a 3D object type. These can be imported for free into Blender (might take some time to learn, but totally worth it)....or if you want really fancy animations you could get LumenRT. Its fun. I think both of these are a cool "next-step" for GIS scenes and data. blender.org - Home of the Blender project - Free and Open 3D Creation Software LumenRT 2015 | E-On Software

I have an awkward situation where I need to see through a semi-transparent building using the CE WebViewer. I can see everything fine in the viewport, but after I export and upload my .3WS file...the "wrong" side of the faces are no longer visible. Is their a work around? CityEngine... CE WebViewer

What is the unit of geometry.volume() in CGA? For example if I extrude a footprint and report geometry.volume()...what is the unit of measurement returned? I feel like the numbers I get are way too big.

I think CGA is specific to CityEngine and so maybe that's why a debugger has never been developed. Its not a "common" language. However, I could be wrong and I have often wondered....Does CGA code work in any other platform? Trial and Error method for now.

Great! Keep in mind also that CityEngine is using meters unit. If your "MEAN_Z" attribute its in feet...you will need to convert it. extrude(MEAN_Z * 0.3048)

Ok I see what you mean. I thought you were referring to the terrain of the scene, but you mean the bottom portion of the panorama where a grid would normally be in the software. correct? I think you can create your own panorama pictures to use. Just click the panorama button .. ..and then Browse your workspace for whatever picture you want to use for an Environment Map . The bottom portion of the picture would be what appears to be the texture of the "Grid" area. (see pic below) So you could change the bottom half in photoshop or powerpoint and then use that NEW image as your Env. Map.
