I am a database administrator responsible to setup enterprise geodatabases that store very large datasets (terabytes), the best practice is to separate tables and indexes to improve performance, this reduces database datafiles fragmentation and contention, thus database i/o improves which leads to better performance, also improves maintenance tasks such as rebuilding indexes and gather new statistics. The sde repository tables also grow quite large in very large enterprise geodatabases. Hence, after I create the sde repository tables I have to manually move the sde repository indexes to a separate tablespace. It would be nice if the GP Tool "Create Enterprise Geodatabase" had an optional input parameter for the sde dbtune file. The dbtune file has the ##DATA_DICTIONARY configuration keyword that controls the sde repository tables storage options. Hence by filling the dbtune with the proper tablespaces and passing it to the GP tool the sde repository tables and indexes can be created under the proper tablespaces. In a remote past, in older arcgis releases when the sde binary commands where still available the dbtune used to be one of the input parameters for the "sdesetup -o install..." command, since the sde binaries deprecation and introduction of the GP Tool the database administrator has to manually move the indexes to a separate tablespace. Example script to move sde repository tables and indexes.

Resolution: Reinstall DRS binaries and redeploy DRS SOE, must do this step to install the new SOE manually. Open ArcGIS Server Manager > Site > Extensions > ESRI.ReviewerServer.soe > Action: Edit > Extension > Select File > "C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcGISDataReviewerServer\Server10.8\Bin\ESRI.ReviewerServer.soe" Then, test each ArcGIS Server Service, stop/start each service manually and check the ArcGIS Server Logs for severe errors. If necessary redeploy DRS Services. https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/data-reviewer/latest/help/publishing-arcgis-data-reviewer-for-server-services.htm If necessary reconfigure DRS Services using DRS Configuration Utility, see example below. 1. ArcGIS Server DRS Services > BatchValidation > reviewer Open the DRS Configuration Utility: Connect to ArcGIS Server: http://localhost:6080/arcgis/admin UserName: drsadmin Password: **** Add DRS extension: Select extension file C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcGISDataReviewerServer\Server10.8\Bin\ESRI.ReviewerServer.soe Set Reviewer Workspace: Select Map Service - BatchValidation/reviewer.MapServer Select New Reviewer Workspace - F:\sqlexpressgdb\localhost_RevWorkspace.sde

I have upgrade ArcGIS Server and Data Reviewer Server (DRS) binaries. ArcGIS Server is working fine but DRS services fail to start. What is the cause? FYI for the future: If you are using 10.7.1 or above software then you don’t need to run steps 3 and 4. They are fixed in the software and will be of no use to set it up. With 10.8 all we know is to perform step 2 on some OS and in cloud solutions where the security level is higher and therefore we need to add the machines as trusted sites. This is not Esri software issue but the OS security level issue.

Question: I am able to publish the scene service but I’m having issues with some textures being dropped. I don’t think it’s a problem related to this issue but I’m still troubleshooting. Any ideas by chance? Answer: Disregard, just needed to rebuild the cache. Everything appears to be working as normal now.

AWS EC2 Multi Machine Deployment - Workaround Details Portal+Server is in one ec2 instance and the Data Store (Relational & TileCache) is in another ec2 instance. For each ec2 instance make the same Internet Explorer changes logged as the local user “arcgis”, then reboot the ec2 instances. For each ec2 instance the Internet Explorer Trusted Sites has the HTTP & HTTPS URLs with the Private IP of each ec2 instance ( see below for details ). Open Internet Explorer as the “arcgis” local user Press and hold shift key and right-click IE shortcut. Run as Different User… This did not work. I was able to open IE but the IE Trusted Sites changes did not persisted. Workaround: granted "remote desktop user" role to the local “arcgis” user then logged in and verified IE settings. re-applied the settings logged off/in, opened IE and settings were fine now revoked “remote desktop user” from local “arcgis” user Internet Explorer > Internet Options > Security > Sites disabled the option to Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone add these HTTP URLs http://agi-dev-3.esri.com < ec2 instances Private IPs > http://172.31.17.247 ags-dev-portal-3 http://172.31.17.87 ags-dev-data-store-3 http://172.31.17.247 ags-dev-data-store-spatial-3 add these HTTPS URLs https://agi-dev-3.esri.com < ec2 instances Private IPs > https://172.31.17.247 ags-dev-portal-3 https://172.31.17.87 ags-dev-data-store-3 https://172.31.17.247 ags-dev-data-store-spatial-3 Internet Explorer > Internet Options > Advanced tab Use TLS 1.2 was already enabled Use SSL 3.0 was enabled Data Store Property ags-dev-data-store-3 – Data Store ( Relational & TileCache) Connected to the Tools folder in “C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\DataStore\tools” and ran describedatastore Ran changedbproperties --store tileCache --enablessl admin, data >> Operation completed successfully changedbproperties: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/data-store/latest/install/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_5F78275E9F6A42D199FC7098DFF049AB enablessl: This parameter controls use of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol when populating the tile cache data store. We’re trying to publish scenes and we have not been able to get past this “root node” error. Here is what I’ve tried. Recaching all layers in the scene Having enable SSL 3.0 in IE on the server (Suggestion from a GoeNet post) Validating hosting server for the portal and all data stores in ArcGIS manager – everything validates Checking permissions for the arcgis user in the datastore directory – looks good. Adding a new file datastore to verify connections and permissions – successful Recaching all layers again – caching succeeds, but the scene will not draw. Still get the “root node” error for all scene layers.

For Database Administrators that manage a large number of Enterprise Geodatabases. It would be nice if the Pro Contents window had a different icon for the Connected, Disconnected and Broken Geodatabases connections, just like ArcMap does. This will help quite a lot when you manage hundreds of eGDBs and hundreds of connection files, Broken connection, when the connection fails due to the network or any other problem. Also when right click the connection file in Pro would be nice the context menu to have an option to Connect & Disconnect the Geodatabase.

When the Reviewer Workspace is created the featureclasses and tables already have indexes that are automatically created, however if revtablemain or the revdataset featureclasses become very large with time then some SQL Queries might become slow, it depends on how the Reviewer application is been used by users, and how users are querying the Reviewer tables and attributes, in such situation is necessary to ask the database administrator to perform a SQL trace to capture, identify and tune the slow SQL queries, a possible result of the tuning might be to add additional indexes to improve performance. I hope this helps.
