Just as a follow-up if it helps anyone, I restarted my machine and the SRTM hillshade displayed correctly. It was certainly due to some hardware limitation with ongoing processes on my machine...

Thanks, this is exactly the effect I am trying to do. However, you use ArcGIS Pro (which I don't know) and it looks like the transparency option in the Color Editor is not available to regular ArcGIS licenses! In addition, the dialog box is more like an Adobe Illustrator dialog box and provides much more options... But I cannot export my raster to Illustrator to apply such a color ramp as the output file is rasterized.

Hi, I am displaying a Referenced Function Mosaic Dataset for hillshading in ArcMap Desktop 10.5.1. In particular, I'd like to emphasize relief hillshade and instead of using a "black to white" ramp, I would prefer to use a "black to transparent" ramp. Is it possible in ArcGIS? Thanks

Hi, I loaded SRTM3 tiles into a Mosaic Dataset held in a FGBD under ArcGIS Desktop 10.5.1. Then I created a Referenced Function Mosaic Dataset in order to display hillshading... However, when I open the Referenced Function Mosaic Dataset in Arcmap in a project, it only displays the hillshade at large scale, beyond 1/2'500'000 or so, no more hillshading! Moreover, even when displayed on screen, not all the tiles displays at one time, such as shown attached. Is it some limitation of Functions in ArcMap? Or a processing limitation? Thanks

Hi, Thanks for these answers. The Input feature class, being either Projected (NAD27 Albers Equal Area Conic) or Unprojected (Geographic) NAD27, gives both the same results in meters. This default unit is determined by the linear units of the Input feature class in this example. If the Input feature class is not projected (just in NAD83), I believe the default is meter, probably linked to the regional setting of the ArcGIS installation and/or Windows installation/machine. I made another test with the Input feature class in Projected (NAD27 / StatePlane_Texas_North_FIPS_4201) and the results were in US feet, just as the linear units. All clear now.

Hi, I used the Analysis -> Proximity -> Near tool to calculate the nearest distance between: - a Point feature class as Input - a Line feature class as Near Whatever the GCS of the Input feature class (Geographic NAD27, Projected NAD27 Albers Equal Area Conic), or the GCS of the .mxd project, the reslt is always the same. And it looks as being Meters if I double-check with the Measure tool. The only diffrence I can output is if I use Geodesic or Planar option, which shows a little difference... (and looks logic). My question is what is the unit of the calculated nearest distance? Looks like to be Meters, but why is it that by default? And how is it possible to set another unit for nearest distance? Thanks

Thanks It did work! I was not sure about the point "ordering" when converting Points to Line. Also, I made an export to a tab .txt file to avoid Excel (via .dbf).

Hi, I have a polyline shapefile which opens incorrectly in ArcMap. When ArcMap expects latitude (northing), it reads the longitude in shapefile (eastings). And when it expects longitude (eastings), it reads the latitude in the shapefile (northings). It is weird! The shapefile wich should be in the Netherlands ends up offshore Somalia East Africa! As shown attached. How is it possible to invert the lat/lon? In order to open the shapefile correctly... Here attached is a polyline sample if it helps. Thanks

Just for a follow-up, I decided to replace white spaces with underscore _ using a little software called Siren to rename files... It does the job for the time being and avoid crashing Python scripts! Though, I'd like to understand where the problem was! Either the dialog box not passing arguments (filenames) properly because of white spaces or anything else...

Dan, You're right. Attached here is the complete toolbox. The python script should be imported into it. For parameters, the dialog box should speak itself... Thanks

That's better! If I put the filename instead of sys.argv[1], it's works. It means the bug comes from the sys.argv[1]... The script cannot deal with the arguments properly! input = "City Points_point.shp" Any guess?

Dan, I inserted the code for the Rename tool instead of copy tool in my script, as below. Dan, I understand what you mean... Indeed, the purpose of my script is to replace the white space in shapefiles contained in a workspace: # Import arcpy module import arcpy import os # Split input values using a semicolon. inputs = sys.argv[1] inputlist = inputs.split(";") #Character to be replaced old = sys.argv[2] #New character new = sys.argv[3] outWorkspace = sys.argv[4] try: # Loop through the list of inputs. for input in inputlist: arcpy.AddMessage("Input: " + input) newname = input.replace(old, new) arcpy.AddMessage("Newname: " + newname) #VALIDATE THE NEW FEATURE CLASS NAME FOR THE OUTPUT WORKSPACE output = outWorkspace + os.sep + newname[newname.rfind(os.sep)+1:] arcpy.AddMessage("Output: " + output) #MESSAGE arcpy.AddMessage("Converting " + str(input[input.rfind(os.sep)+1:]) + " to " + str(output[output.rfind(os.sep)+1:])) #COPY FEATURES arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(input,output, "", "0", "0", "0") arcpy.Delete_management(input) arcpy.AddMessage(str(input[input.rfind(os.sep)+1:]) + " Deleted") arcpy.AddMessage("Processed" + "\n") except: arcpy.AddMessage(arcpy.GetMessages()) But it crashed when filemanes have white spaces! Any guess?

Hi, In a python script, I use arcpy.CopyFeatures_management function but it certain situation, some parameters may have a white space such as: C:\ESRI\City Points_point.shp Then, when running the script, arcpy.CopyFeatures_management interprets C:\ESRI\City Points_point.shp as 2 parameters because of the white space. Executing: CopyFeatures 'C:\ESRI\City Points_point.shp' C:\ESRI\City_Points_point.shp # 0 0 0Start Time: Mon Aug 22 16:01:33 2016Failed to execute. Parameters are not valid.
How would it be possible to arrange the syntax and have 'C:\ESRI\City Points_point.shp' interpreted as just one parameter? Thanks
