This is amazing. We reported this issue in June only to get push back from support and months of back-forth about our environment, cluster and file shares and look at all the folks coming into this thread the last few weeks! Just a fyi we installed 10.3 prerelease hoping this issue would be resolved and we ran into a major problem with the CachingTools service. It was not started/added during the in-place upgrade of our 10.2.2 instance. It basically is not running so no cache updates or tools are available. You could also create a spatial view and include the area column with an alias and publish the spatial view so StandardizedQueries can remained enabled. StandardizedQueries provides the ability to be cross-db compliant and saftey from SQL injection attacks. ... View more

Yes I tried an overwrite and moved all of the cache tiles back and ran Manage Status with no changes. Even deleted the service, all folders in the cache repo and republished and same result. It seems to keeping some corrupted metadata somewhere. The only thing I did not do was restart the entire ArcGIS Server service before republishing but that seems to be a little extreme. ... We are experiencing the same issue and the cached map service and MXD have gone thru 10.0, 10.1, SP1, 10.2, 10.2.1 and now 10.2.2.. We can build the cache just fine only to having bundling issues when attempting to do updates. Had an open ticket with ESRI for several months and of course it works when building a new cache each time but how many more times can we do this? We will attempt to use the EXPLODED format because that is the only thing that seems to be in common on this thread along with the 10.2.2 release. We too have had to resort to the stop service, delete, publish, recache using silly dos commands. These tools should be easy and just work. Having to go in behind the scenes to fix the black box AGS is getting rather old and too time consuming to be testing scenarios that ESRI should be testing themselves instead of blaming things on environment or data issues. ... Agree. Query Layers do not work well when things change such as the database, server or schema. Especially when they are part of map services. We basically have to recreate them between dev/test/production environments and its painful since there is no layer copy option to copy the layer properties for symbology, def queries, labeling, etc...  ... I agree functions as default would be helpful for many data types, especially if one column is related on another. You do have some work-a-rounds depending on the environment being used. 1) Attribute Assistant but this tool only supports desktop does not scale to web or mobile solutions 2) Enable Editor Tracking Fields - however this deaults to UTC and not local time zone so it can be confusing for end users. 3) SQL Server and other RDBMS can use calculated columns. I have noticed performance issues using these but they seem to do their job and will not allow the user to override the date.  ... View more

Also wanted to add we are having a problem with scoring incoming records with matches against units. If an incoming record does not contain the unit value and the candidate does this should not be a 100% score in my opinion. I believe this was mentioned in some previous posts how do we add a rank to the unit so the score is reduced for the incoming record. Thanks to everyone on this thread for some explanations and help with customizing locators for units. One problem we are having with this locator is in the candidate match it seeds in a # even though the incoming address did not contain a unit. Is there any way to remove the # in the event of a match without a unit? The locator returns # characters in the match even if no unit supplied or returned in the candidates. Another scenarios is for organizations that utlize concurrent desktop licensing. Currently as administrator of both Desktop and AGOL I have no "fair" way to distrubute named user accounts to AGOL and not everyone needs it or uses it everyday. Some projcts are very short in nature and then these users might not use the portal for a months or even a year. I agree with the authors suggestion on some more flexibility in named users and implementing AGOL concurrent licensing.  ... View more
