Hey Michael, This error means an ArcGIS Server process has your bundle or index locked and cannot delete it to replace it. This happens in all environments multi or single so do not spend anymore time trying to figure it out. We spent 6 months working on the issue with ESRI support who were convinced it was an enronmental issue only to find this post with other users describing the same issue in the 10.2 release. Restart your ArcGIS Server and attempt to rerun your process and the bundles should create. Try to keep all load off the server if this is not an option, try to resort to building the cache in another service, another server and then move the cache as David and others describe above. Please create Bus/Transit line as well as related stops and timetables to the LGIM. Currently Transit routes are very hard to create, maintain and publish in the ArcGIS Solution and the entire industry would benefit if you have some of your local govt experts build solutions around the information model. Today there are very few solutions in creating, maintaining transit lines in the ArcGIS solution as Cartographic representations do not perform the large and small scale needs of transit publication to its customers. Additionally provide the ability to export and import Google transit information (GTFS) as well.

We use domains as valid value lists in editing environments to streamline editing for users when a list of values is required for a particular field. When codes/values are not needed the workflow is rather redundant to create a CODE & VALUE with the same exact values. If fact we started doing this more and more over the years since the use of coded values is inconsistent in the ArcGIS platform and also coded as XML in the GDB making back-end reporting and integration a pain. Today coded values domains are inconsistent and confusing for end-users where using functionality such as: queries, calculates, AGOL, Open Data, multi-version views. The coded/value domain is a redunant workflow and when only values are needed I propose the ability to create a value domain which is simply a list of values only. This will make it easier to manage and provide a consistant usage of a domain values across the platform for those that need it.

Well we finally got the 10.3 pr environment up and running after a failed in-place upgrade of 10.2.2. (be warned!). However I have bad news to report we are still getting cache bundling issues updating cache on specific scales in the 10.3 prerelease environment on a server with very minor load. As echoed by David this is frustrating and I will be contacting my Regional office today.

This is amazing. We reported this issue in June only to get push back from support and months of back-forth about our environment, cluster and file shares and look at all the folks coming into this thread the last few weeks! Just a fyi we installed 10.3 prerelease hoping this issue would be resolved and we ran into a major problem with the CachingTools service. It was not started/added during the in-place upgrade of our 10.2.2 instance. It basically is not running so no cache updates or tools are available. Waiting to get a call from support to see what we do. Not even sure if they test upgrade scenarios!

Those are attachment tables and relationship classes for each. Attachment tables were added in 10.1. It sure would be nice if the attachment tables could reside in a dataset but today all tables reside at the root of the GDB.

You could also create a spatial view and include the area column with an alias and publish the spatial view so StandardizedQueries can remained enabled. StandardizedQueries provides the ability to be cross-db compliant and saftey from SQL injection attacks.

Yes I tried an overwrite and moved all of the cache tiles back and ran Manage Status with no changes. Even deleted the service, all folders in the cache repo and republished and same result. It seems to keeping some corrupted metadata somewhere. The only thing I did not do was restart the entire ArcGIS Server service before republishing but that seems to be a little extreme.

Our cached base map has been through several software releases. Thinking back it has been through all of them starting at 10.1, 10.1 SP and beyond. We are now at 10.2.2 and for some reason the cache status no longer appears and not even the levels are not even listed. Anyone know how to restore this functionality? We really do not want to rebuild the cache and know that will be the first instruction from ESRI support. It seems the metadata is corrupt or something but it still works producting images and can be updated using Manage Cache Tiles. We have deleted the Status.gdb and rebuilt cache status, rebooted server with no avail. Below is what we see... nothing! Any other ideas? Thanks

There is a user script to do this on github. Haven't tried it out myself but it might be an option for you because doubt we will get this since it can be accomplished thru scripting.

We are experiencing the same issue and the cached map service and MXD have gone thru 10.0, 10.1, SP1, 10.2, 10.2.1 and now 10.2.2.. We can build the cache just fine only to having bundling issues when attempting to do updates. Had an open ticket with ESRI for several months and of course it works when building a new cache each time but how many more times can we do this? We will attempt to use the EXPLODED format because that is the only thing that seems to be in common on this thread along with the 10.2.2 release. We too have had to resort to the stop service, delete, publish, recache using silly dos commands. These tools should be easy and just work. Having to go in behind the scenes to fix the black box AGS is getting rather old and too time consuming to be testing scenarios that ESRI should be testing themselves instead of blaming things on environment or data issues.

Agree. Query Layers do not work well when things change such as the database, server or schema. Especially when they are part of map services. We basically have to recreate them between dev/test/production environments and its painful since there is no layer copy option to copy the layer properties for symbology, def queries, labeling, etc...

I agree functions as default would be helpful for many data types, especially if one column is related on another. You do have some work-a-rounds depending on the environment being used. 1) Attribute Assistant but this tool only supports desktop does not scale to web or mobile solutions 2) Enable Editor Tracking Fields - however this deaults to UTC and not local time zone so it can be confusing for end users. 3) SQL Server and other RDBMS can use calculated columns. I have noticed performance issues using these but they seem to do their job and will not allow the user to override the date.
