Thanks Neil. I'm looking at this tool now and am experimenting with the Register Services with ArcGIS Online. I don't know why but I keep getting an "Error 400: invalid URL" even though I'm putting in the correct URL and the tool is recognizing the ArcGIS server's folder structure and services. Any idea why this is happening? I only ask you because I'm assuming your company is the developer because of your last name...

Does anyone know if there is a way to control the keywords that are available when tagging an ArcGIS Online item? I was scrolling through the keywords available to my organization, and many of them differ simply by capitalization or plural. We're really like to avoid duplicate keywords for search consistency (especially in open data) and avoid replicating typos in the keyword list.

I've been using this script successfully for months now to register large Map Services in ArcGIS Online to be included in OpenData, but recently (the last couple of weeks) I've been receiving this error: {'error':{'messageCode': 'CONT_0057', 'message': "Invalid JSON in 'text' parameter.", 'code': 400, 'details': []}} I don't think anything has changed on my machine(s) and I'm not doing anything differently when creating my Map Service. What am I doing wrong? I've attached the whole python script.

Awesome Thanks Daniel. I was unaware of the q= versus the keyword=. very helpful. to answer your questions, the search results seem to be returned jumbled together. out of the 92 results to the query mentioned above, the Rivers were listed within the first 10 datasets.

The search tool in my OpenData site seems to have changed over the weekend to be a lot less specific. Just for an example, I have 150ish layers being shared through my OpenData site. I clicked on the "Marine Ecosystems" button on my home OpenData page (geodata.myfwc.com), which pulls up a canned query for "Marine Ecosystems." The query returns 92 results with some datasets not having anything to do with Marine (e.g. Florida's Major River(Lines) dataset). It appears that the query tool has been dumbed down a little and is searching for each term individually. Meaning when I click on the "Marine Ecosystems" button, it is searching for the term "Marine" and then completing a second search for "Ecosystems" and combining the results. What has happened to the search tool and how can I fix it?

I know that OpenData is very much in its infancy. I would like to commend the development team for a job tremendously done at working out some bugs and correcting some functionalities. So far I am very impressed with the product. That being said, there are a couple of things that I would like to suggest for future development. This is not an exhaustive list, and if anyone else has something to add, I'm sure the team will see it and take it under advisement for POSSIBLE future enhancements (noting that I am in no way connected with ESRI, other than being a user): other download format types, for example file geodatabase (.gdb). I'm assuming that ESRI would export this .gdb out in the earliest version that the company still technically supports, which currently to my knowledge is a 10.0 gdb some sort of analytics to see how many times a dataset has been viewed/ downloaded/ shared/ etc. over the last X period of time (my preference would be monthly, quarterly, and annually, but others may have different requests. I'm thinking something close to Google Analytics, but don't know exactly what I'm thinking of. So again, thanks ESRI's OpenData Development team (Andrew Turner Daniel Fenton Courtney Claessens and others whom I don't know yet) for all their hard work in getting this brilliant tool up and running for us (the GIS community).

I personally haven't tried Portal for ArcGIS Server Extension, but my understanding is that it is basically setting up a whole ArcGIS Online environment on your organization's server, including AGOL homepage, OpenData, Data Sharing, etc. This is a question for ESRI, but I would hope that you would be able to pick and choose which portions of the Portal software you would actively support on your server environment (i.e. if you only wanted the OpenData capability, then that's all you would need to set up). Now that being said, if you are still willing to use ESRI's infrastructure, but are mostly concerned with the OpenData Site being outside of your Organization's domain, there is an option the option in the ESRI's OpenData management portal to set up a subdomain, so that it will look like your OpenData site is hosted directly from your organization and its infrastructure... Directions to set up that option are located here, under the "Custom Domain" heading.

Hi Daniel, I checked this morning and it appears that all datasets are now working in open data. It may be that the indexing is just taking about 24 hours or so from when the item was created. Chris

Hi Daniel, I had not tried making the items private and then public and shared with OpenData again. This seems to be working for some datasets that were having that issue, but not others. Currently, this item is being shared with my Open Data group, but in the data report it says "feature service which has no datasets." I will continue retracting my Shares and then reinstating my shares to see if this ultimately fixed many of my problem datasets. Chris

I agree with Luke, Definitely Tiff, but I'm also thinking file geodatabase with ESRI's Grid format. What do you think? I have also requested the opinion of my scientists who are looking to publish out their raster data and should hear back from them in about a week or so.
