I have generated a pretty large TIN within Pro. When I try to display the TIN within a Map my computer CPU goes through the roof, and it takes well over 10 minutes to draw, I ended up turning it off due to the wait. I loaded the same data into ArcMap, and it blew away Pro, 2 minutes (with breaklines). What is the deal??? My machine is robust: Windows 10, 3.3GHz, 16 Gigs of RAM. NVIDIA K5100M. I have Pro displaying OpenGL. My graphics card is up-to-date as of a couple of days ago. Any other settings I may check?

I just wanted to add a little to this discussion because this thread kept popping up on my search for sanity. A little history, started Pro with 1.0 and am now up to 1.4. My typical pattern would be: I would say to myself "I should test out Pro again to see if it is working ok", so I will start a new project. The software would run fine, so I would add more and more to the project thus getting deeper in to debt with the software. After a couple of days it would start hanging up, start random crashes, and eventually become unusable. I would then issue a support request and run through the default procedures: Upgrade the Graphics Card, remove Space Patterns tool box, etc etc, and eventually Repair the software. After that it would seem to work enough to get my project complete and out the door. I then wouldn't touch Pro for weeks/months because of my trust issues with it. Then a new release would come out and I would treat Pro like an ex-girlfriend and say to myself "Ohh she is looking good. Maybe this time will be different, she's proably changed..." only too realize she is still temperamental and unhinged. All this leads to today: I think two modifications I have made have helped. I have an NVIDIA graphics card, and I had to turn on the Antialiasing - Transparency option to "Multismaple" within the NVIDA Control Panel. The next change and this I feel might be the important one. As I was changing my display settings back to OpenGL (I've switched many times to try to resolve my issues btw), I noticed that the display cache was at 36 Gigs!!!!!! HOLY MOLEY. With that storage it was pushing my storage threshold on my hard drive to over 90% capacity which I think is what was making my machine go a little bonkers. When going through the ESRI procedures we would eventually repair the software, and that would clean the cache thus allowing me to operate the software to get my projects out the door. This all feeds into my narrative of I would start out in pro fine but eventually crapola. What I can ascertain is as I would build the project up, I was eating more and more of my storage with the cache getting so large until I would hit some threshold of available space and boom it would all stop working. I'm going to continue testing, and am hopeful I have found the culprit. Hope this helps someone.

Currently, in our ArcMap workflow, my staff will sometimes have a need to work on getting multiple maps edited for the same report simultaneously. This usually isn't a problem, aside from users having the same mxd open at once. This will send off an "Unable to save" document, but give the user a chance to save a copy for any edits they have made, then with a few shouts we can figure out how to resolve. This works fairly well because of the single mxd workflow. We have multiple maps for reports, and I can have my staff tackle as a group. Now with Pro, all the maps/layouts will be bundled together in one .aprx. We have just tested having multiple users open the same aprx, make changes, save changes. There is no notification that any other user is accessing the document, nor has saved the document. It appears, the first user to open and save, has control of the document. Other users can make changes, save (no error), but the saves will not be stored. I foresee this is a HUGE problem. Am I missing something or has ESRI tackled this issue with a very limited scope (only work on your hard drive)? If I can't get a notification that another user has the same aprx opened, or if not all user's changes can be saved this will be a non-starter for us to move away from ArcMap. How are we to address this? Is this a bug?? An enhancement request (which is just silly to me)?

Edited Follow up: I reinstalled the conda install -c esri arcgis and now it works. I believe there was an error on the first pass due to the folder permissions. I had to grant full access to the ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python folder under the windows properties. It was read only with my recent upgrade to Windows 10. Everything was working, I was able to see the map, all the cells were working fine until I tried the 'import arcgis.lyr' Error says there is no arcgis.lyr module. Also noticed there is no arcgis.tools and arcgis.viz. I have attached an image of the attributes available in arcgis module on my machine.

Atma thanks for the reply. I have been doing this all from the Python Command Prompt found under the ArcGIS start menu, even the pip install.

Hello all, I went through the guide to install the new Python API, and a few issues happened. First off I'm running ArcGIS Pro 1.4, Windows 10. I opened the Python Command Prompt, executed the commend "conda install -c esri arcgis" worked, but wasn't able to launch jupyter notebook right away. I then installed jupyter using "pip install jupyter" which worked, and I was able to open a notebook with "jupyter notebook". If I start a new Python 3 notebook or run a sample I get an error when importing the module arcgis, as shown below: from arcgis.gis import *
gis = GIS()
---------------------------------------------------------------------------ImportError Traceback (most recent call last)<ipython-input-1-bc0d972ca319> in <module>()----> 1 from arcgis.gis import * 2 gis = GIS() ImportError: No module named 'arcgis' What am I missing?

Hello Royce, Have you figured how to sum a field in pro? I need to know because I can't stand creating unnecessary tables to do simple sums.

I have a similar situation, using ArcGIS Pro 1.2 I have a layout with 2 scenes (existing & proposed), 24 x 36. I have tried to print, but I canceled after 30 minutes of seeing the "Printing Layout.." dialog. I have tried to export as pdf and I canceled after 45 minutes. I have tried a jpg same issue. I have tried to create a whole new aprx, but it is still the same problem. My machine is well equipped. 3.30 GHz 16Gb of RAM 64bit I went out on a limb to try ArcGIS Pro again after numerous crashes and every time I end up frustrated and annoyed. I honestly do not know how this product has been released for final consumption.

I just wanted to add our experience in hopes someone will benefit. I had this happend on one of my machines about a year ago, and we resolved (kinda forgot how we did it). Unfortunately, it happened again on a completely different machine nad user. It honestly feels like you are stumbling in the dark, and then viola the solution is fixed. Anyway here are our steps: - Restarted Machine; FAILED - Renamed Normal.mxt in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop\ArcMap\Templates; FAILED - Renamed ArcGIS folder in C:\Users\Username\Documents; FAILED - Renamed ESRI folder in C:\Users\Username\Documents; FAILED - Ran Repair on the software; FAILED - Uninstalled/Reinstalled; FAILED - Restarted; Failed - Deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\Desktop10.3\ Arcmap; FAILED - Maybe a restart here (didn't try) - Deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI; FAILED - Maybe a restart here (didn't try) - Renamed python 2.7 to python "2.7-32" in regedit.exe > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > WOW 6432 > Python Python Core; FAILED, Changed back to 2.7 - Maybe a restart here (didn't try) - We checked and found only MSXML 4.0 SP 2 installed in the machine. - Installed MSXML 4.0 SP 3; FAILED - restarted machine, ArcMap launched.... - However, ArcMap had components that were not firing correctly. Ex. An mxd would open with no TOC when we try to show the TOC ArcMap crashed. Also Catalog didn't open. Major problems, might be with the ESRI Key we removed. - Final step, we issued a repair on the ArcGIS for Desktop application in the Add/Delete Programs and now everything is working. I would start with the first 3 steps because this has happened before with a corrupt default.gdb, and sometimes this will resolve. It is easy to think the MSXML SP 3 made it work after the restart, but I just looked on two other machines and SP 2 is installed yet ArcMap is working fine on both. I think the restart in combination with the key edits did the trick. However, that messed something up because we had to issue a repair on the software. I would try to restart after renaming the ArcMap key and see if that resolves. Good Luck.

Robert, thank you thank you thank you!!! I have been losing my mind regarding this for the past few weeks. I can't believe they haven't included some error trapping to notify the user about this incompatibility. Thanks again.

I'm working on the Prerelease arcgis pro, and maybe this will be addressed at the final release, but I am having a hard time with the unique values symbology. Like ArcMap the default unique symbology adds the, in my opinion, the annoying "All Other Values" class. In Pro I can't find a way to delete this, or at least NOT to show up in the legend. How do you delete this?? How, please for the love of everything holy, how do you delete this blasted item? Is there a default option I can nuke it forever and ever? Unfortunately, this is very indicative of the entire software when coming from a long history in ArcMap. I'm constantly clicking ribbons and features to try to find where the heck tools are, what needs to be active, or what didn't come over in the software as of yet. Can we bring some of the context menus back???

Will there be an update of Hec-GeoRas for ArcGIS 10.1? I have upgraded to 10.1, but am now at a loss because I no longer can use GeoRas. This is detrimental to my company. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you.
