As you entered the text manually it does not disappear.  I got around it by creating 4 Fields in my Data Driven page feature class.  ToNorth, ToEast, ...etc and populating the fields. Kind of cumbersome to set up.  But I did it for one of my clients when data driven pages first became a thing and only have to make changes when new map sheets are added or removed. I have been doing this since the day MapLex came out.  14 years or so. I created a domain first.  Short integer 0   Dynamic 1   North 2   North East. etc. Then have a Label Direction Field. I default it to Zero. Then in your labels create 9 rules for labels. One for each of the 8 directions and one for Zero However, I quit doing it as it became inefficient and switched to using Rotate By Attribute is it is a lot more flexible. OK where are you doing this? In ArcMap under file there is no Export option. There is a Export Map option. In ArcCatalog there is no export option under File Use the Tool Feature Class to Geodatabase (multiple).  ... View more

Lots of over thinking here. Simply use ArcCatalog. Create your new FileGeodatabases and then copy and paste your feature datasets into the new data base. If you have a lot of DB's (by a lot I mean more than 30) there are other ways. I once combined 1400 filegeodatabases into a single Personal Geodatabase using a complicated python script that I built using Model Builder and MS Access. ... View more

Personally I would never use a notebook or laptop for serious GIS Work.  Unless you have a docking station. I utilize 2 x 27" monitors and a 19" on the side. Spending the extra money on a touch screen is a waste of money in GIS I don't know how well Pro will interact with Windows 10.  We use Windows 7 because the bugs have been worked out and it is stable. My supervisor recently got a new computer with Windows 10 and I have not heard him cussing. The x360 has sufficient power to run Pro and 8 GB is good for most applications unless you intend on doing 3D. However, the MX150 GPU is a very low end graphics card and you may experience long refresh times. Overall the x360 is a fluff computer and not a work station. Yes you can run Pro on this machine. Yes you can run Pro on integrated graphics.  But then again you can drive a car with both feet tied together and one hand tied behind your back. I would not even touch the Thinkpad for this. Both of these systems are exceptional in their field but are not designed for GIS work. Yes this I would do simply with field calculator. I would require a minute or two per field to write the calculation. However I have experience with VB, which is still a valid usage for Field Calculator. Personally I would perform the calculations in MS Access if in a personal geodatabase If in access add all your fields  Input rows and out put rows.  set criteria for input to  like (1*  then calculate output row 1 mid([inputrow], mid({inputrow],(5,(instr([inputrow]," "))))) You may have to adjust the parentheticals and add a -1 to the second mid calculation number then use field length of the previous output plus 5 as the start of the the next instring. ... That's exactly it. For us it was a long process. It took a few years to really get more and more people on board. A client contracted with us to convert their AutoCAD Electric System to ArcGIS. I spent a lot of time converting it to ArcGIS, set them up with the ability to print map books and most importantly with ArcReader.  I worked with their IT to create a daily operation to update the date base that the ArcReader file would use. And every night when the linemen would dock their laptops it would automatically update the database their laptops.  That way every morning they would have the most current data in their ArcReader. I drove 5 hours to their office. Their IT guy was awesome and had everything set up working without flaw. I created a power point presentation.  Everyone already had ArcReader on their laptops. I was doing my quick demo and I looked over. The head of the linemen's union was sitting next to me. I could tell there was not way in heck he was ever going to even try it. All the younger linemen were thinking it was pretty dang slick and used it from the get go. 4 months later their manager calls me and says that certain linemen are still not using it an as work orders are going out via the GIS it was effecting efficiently in those particular crews.  He asked me for advice.  I told him Mark, I am sorry it is our company policy to no get involved in client office politics.  He understood.  Well 2 months later we were at the same electric conference.  It was in the evening and he asked if I was on the clock. I said no. So he bought me a few beers and asked me again.  Well if the people won't motivate themselves when they see others using it and being excited and it is hurting efficiency, you can fire them (which you cannot do) or give them the really easy sh*t jobs like changing light street light bulbs and inspections. Then when they complain explain that you cannot give them the serious work orders because they are not using the applications.  I was mostly joking as I didn't really have an answer.  But he actually did it. 2 months later all crews but the one old fudger were doing it.
