Consistently the most requested feature from our field crews that use Collector is the ability to have predesignated names available for the photos they are capturing. When crewman is 60 feet in the air installing an antenna and has to take a picture it is not always convenient to sit there and type in the name for the photo. What would be of significant benefit (for our use at least) would be to have designated fields in Collector where the tech can press that field and it will open the camera, the picture can be snapped and automatically given that name. If a second photo is taken it can have a number 2 put at the end.

Recently I have had a few of or Telecom Field crew telling me that when they are on Wi-Fi they are having issues searching for a location in Collector. Each of our substations have low power wi-fi available. In some more remote locations there is no cell data so they have to use wi-fi. My thought was they were trying to push to much data through wi-fi so I made a very lite version. On of the crew foremen said he was having the same issue at home where his wi-fi is strong. All the crews are on iPhone (6, 7, or 10) and should have the newest version of Collector on their phones. They are supposed to have VPN disabled. Coincidentally ALL the issues have happened after the Collector update. Would that update have been pushed to all devices automatically?

I have gotten couple of complaints that field crews are not able to search for a location in Collector via Wi-Fi but it works fine on cellular data. Some of our tech are working in fairly remove substations. All of our substations have wi-fi. It is very low power wi-fi probably equivalent to 1g or 2g. So I brewed a lite version of the Collector app that is only points and a gray background to reduce the amount of band width. One the them got back to me that it is not working on his home wi-fi either All the crews are using iPhone. Some may be iPhone 6, 7, or 10. And they should be on the newer Collector app from the app store. I cannot reproduce it on my iPhone XR on my home wi-fi. Any thoughts.

First use the Feature Vertices to Points process to create your points Then you can generate a near table to determine elevation from a contour line or you can join the points to the contour line and update the point from the join.

In Pro. I created the table and then Right click on the table Design > Fields I just tried to reproduce it so I could do a screen capture and it is not doing it now. If the Alias had 25 or more characters the black border would appear. Reduce it to 24 and it went away.

I am creating a new table in the newest version of Pro. When I create an alias greater than 24 character I am getting a black border around the alias box. Can anyone tell me what that means? I am thinking it means it will truncate the alias portion that is visible

We would never install a pre-release Good practice is to only upgrade after a release has been out for awhile or after .1 has been released.

You will need to contact each individual power company and sign a disclosure agreement That much data would also be into the petabyte or even zettabytes in size And what use would you possibly have for a full dataset all distribution lines in the US It should also be noted that HILFD is breaking their own restriction that was put in place after 911 to now publicly show transmission lines over 60kv

You have to add it to the map first. It should not be part of the original Feature Service. One you add the layer the move to base map option will be available. Also, you will need proper permissions.

I don't see anything there that would lead me to think that. They appear to be referencing gazetteer types of data in the link you shared. However, using that as a lead I went to HIFLD page and found their data offerings in an excel spreadsheet. They do indeed list Transmission lines in that sheet. So I used the url to the data and opened it and wen to the line I was looking at. When clicking the line it says the Source is Open Street Map. However, unlike OSM it also shows the names of the subs to and from as well as the owner of the line

I just observed recently that Open Street Map is showing Transmission line, Transmission line structures, and Substation locations. As well as Voltage for those lines. Is that legal from a Homeland Security point of view? We only just noticed it because we never use that as a base map but I turned it on the other day. There is an indication that one of our lines was added 12 years ago. Now we never give out our data without a date share agreement. NERC. And 12 years ago there were very few we had shared it with in a digital format.

You need to change it in the original database level and re publish. In Catalog or Pro you will see the feature alias. When you save it to offline it is defaulting to Alias or the name as it was published in the first place

You have to turn on Allow Symbol Property Connections. Once you to that you will see options for choosing which field it will look to. See the below image. Important. The field for the color needs to be a Hex code color OR the web safe color name. you can Google Search for "Web Safe Color Name". or "X11 Color Chart". One of the nice things about using the Hex Codes is if you add number 01 through 00 it will adjust the opacity of the color. More hand on polygons than points. You can even make a domain out of the ColorNames to have a hand drop down menu.
