I too feel that a few changes, and bringing back a few options from last year in the browser app at least, would help. i think last year's browser version was just about perfect. It did have its issues of going to another page to add to my agenda, and then having to return (or was that two years ago?). So I think that was an improvement this year, including the selecting of other options on the popup. And they did bring back a print option for "my agenda", which was nice. The items I found to be missing are 1) ability to print to PDF or excel (unless you have local software thru the print command), and 2) the ability to add your personal/private meetings to you schedule, with details. Last year this included adding scheduled tech support meetings, or any freeform entry you'ld like. As for the mobile app, I agree with Steve about the map not always being needed. It would be nice to be able to set an option in our personal settings as to turn on or off. I would also like that option for the grid format. With so many rooms, I found this view to be fairly useless on the mobile screen, especially when looking at "my agenda" which would make most of the grid empty. Maybe if if empty columns were filtered out, it would be more useful. i know my ios app would do strange things once in a while, such as have Monday and Tuesday both before and after Saturday and sunday, with different sessions; sessions within a day not being in order; and one particular SIG on Sundaywing up almost every time I refreshed my agenda, even after deleting it and saving. Nothing that was too critical, but strange. The "Update Conference [ ]" each time I started up the app...I wasn't sure if the agenda was changing that option, or if it was just reloading my agenda. I too do my homework before headin to the UC, and adjust things throughout. I've very happy that I can search the full agenda and modify my personal selections on-the-fly, so I do appreciate the work that goes into it. Thanks

Kevin, I've attached the .dat file I moved/deleted. BTW - I haven't tested any of my other 10.2.2 installs yet, but I'll let you know if I have the same issue or not. Update: I tried it on a couple other machines, without any issue. The difference was the one tha had issues had a Desktop10.1 folder in the \roaming\esri folder besides a Disktop10.2 folder. I have on othr machine that has thee two folder, but haven't had a change to test yet...will do it now. Update 2: the other machine that had the two folders did not have any issue. So that is not the problem So no idea whay the server had the issue, or why deleting th .dat file fixed it, but happy it did.

Ok, looking through our bug queue, these are issues we've fixed in 10.2 or 10.2.1 (which we're working on right now, its not released yet). However, they're easy enough to work around by deleting a file When ArcCatalog opens, the tree opens to one particular folder. Make sure there are no PYTs in that folder. If there are any, move or delete them. You can find what directory this is by looking if the registry if you aren't sure: HKEY_Current_User\Software\Esri\Desktop10.1\ArcCatalog\Settings\ LastLocation or Try deleting the ArcToolbox.dat found here: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.1\ArcToolbox\ArcToolbox.dat (this will reset your ArcCatalog profile) Hi Kevin, Looks like the bug may have come back in 10.2.2, at least if 10.2.2 was installed without doing a (manual) full uninstall and cleanup from 10.2.1. However, your fix of deleting the the .dat file (from \Desktop10.2 version of path) work for me. yea! So a +1 from me.

I was having the same error pop-up today, but on my Win7 laptop (my dev/test machine). I just installed 10.2.x and I'm working on upgrading my 7.1.1 custom apps. I did some research and these are the options I have found. For me, since it is not a mobile device and I am currently using shapefiles, I could 1) ignore the message, or 2) in arcPad, go to options->General Tab0>uncheck the box to check for sql As found in the old forum http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=34&f=2360&t=241714#737341 Feb 19, 2008 entry by Brandi Saidy. That thread actually talks more about why they error occurs " The warning is caused by the SQL CE client not being installed on your device. The SQL CE client is the engine for the new Arcpad AXF geodatabase format. Use the new deployment manager application to install the SQL CE client and the message will go away." And has other good info. there is a good esri knowledge base article on the new deployment manager fix http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/34303 and a microsoft support link talking about the "Windows Mobile Device Center" for win7 use http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/windows-mobile-device-center-for-windows-7/834ca2af-966c-442f-99bb-c44f39c9857c?page=1[ which I downloaded and installed (run from Start->programs to accept the license agreement, then you can change connection settings), but it seems to have wanted a mobile device attached. so in my case, I'm not sure if this did any good. The microsoft download and install instructions of the above can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931937 both 32 and 64 bit versions are available. So, in my case since I am not yet using anything but shapefiles (and a tif basemap), I was able to just turn off the SQL check (see attached). If/when I start moving to another format, I may have to revisit this. I hope this helps. ----- UPDATE: after working with Kevin B in tech support on another issue, he told me that if you install 10.2.1 as a clean install, (instead of updating from 10.0.4, for example), Microsoft SQL Compact Edition v3.1 MAY not get installed. In the process of debugging my other issue, we uninstall 10.2.1, and installed 10.0.4 which did installed the v3.1. And although this was unrelated to my other issue, when switching back to 10.2.1, the file was still there, and I no longer get the error message (even though the "Check for SQL" box is checked). The folder is fairly small zipped, so I've attached it. If you unzip this folder to your Program Files folder .. if 32-bit OS or the "Program files (x86)" ...if 64-bit, that might also take care of the issue. However, since mine was installed from the 10.0.4 setup, I have not tried it.

Hi, am am using 10.2.x and I know this worked as far back as 10.0, but I don't have access to 9.3 right now so I can not test. I have what I think is a similar structure. That is, I have five regions as a short integer (1-5 plus 9 for "no region") that I use as for my Subtype field. I then have a series of domain tables that I have broken down to the values needed for each region, for a particular field (graphic #3). In the Subtype Field tab of the feature class properties, I select one of the Subtype codes. I can then select a field in the table below and assign a custom domain to the field for the associated region. (two samples, graphic 1 and 2). Since I reassign these to my FGDB version about once a month, and have about 75 different domains (with most divided by region) I have this setup in a arcpy script. I'm not sure that my script, as is, would do you much good since it is pretty long and specific to my needs, but if you are really comfortable with arcpy, I can maybe explain the important parts (and parts may not work in 9.3) Since you are on 9.3., first thing I would check is whether the Subtype tab has the same options. Sorry to waste your time if it doesn't, but this might help someone else in future. Good luck, -becky

I am working on organizing an annual archive of our datasets (annual feature datasets within one geodatabase...ArcSDE 10.2.x) . I have quite a complex set of domain files that occasionally change. I just finished major update in my master, and still have a separate GDB with the "older" set. Each archived set has the same field names and associated domains. Before I update the domains in my Archive SDE database, anyone know or have a suggested "easy" way to assign the older domain values to the associated fields instead of keeping them in a domain table? I see a bit a discussion of getting the value to a table (FCtoFC in 10.2.x) but not within a FC. I've thought about changing the name of the archived domains by adding a year designation, but with about 75 potential domains (some broken down but subtype) for each year, this would become an administration nightmare fairly quickly. Since, in theory, the archived data should not change, hard coding the domain informtaion for the archive may not be a bad option, at least for most of the "shorter" field lengths.....assuming this is something I can automate (with python/arcpy). Just looking for suggestions or samples if anyone has come accross this. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Vince, In my case, it wasn't to allow NULLS or not, but actually "REQUIRED". I had that as a AddField argument in my arcpy script to update my domains. Most the time I ran it against a new FGDB that I delete/recreate on each update, so it was never an issue. I'm currently updating my MASTER sde database and ran the script, which then added the field to that. I decided I didn't want that field in the master and then couldn't delete it. That is when I looked at my script and saw my error... arcpy.AddField_management("master, "newField", "SHORT", 0, 0, 2, "anAlias","NULLABLE","REQUIRED") Good suggestions about looking at the archived tables and metadata for issues after the SQL commands I performed. Especially the metadata. That didn't dawn on my that is could mess with that. Besides not messing up my GDB topology/tracking/versioning/archiving, I was hoping to be able to keep the history intact, but I'm also wanting to reorder the fields (this is major overhaul of the master files), and I think the only way I can really do what I want is to use the "X-RAY" reorder tool which still wants to recreate the file (or errors out when trying to replace)..which mean the globals will be different and history may not follow forward anyway. But IF I am using the X-Ray option, I found the new file did not have the "REQUIRED" flag on the field in the new file and I could delete if in Catalog then, so I will have to mess with that approach. I'm also thinking of renaming the actual GDB too, and that also seems to be best with a replacement/rebuild. Anyway, just trying to retain as much history as posible, but those are diccussions beyond this thread. Thanks for your suggestions.

ANSWERED.....I was not able to change the field from REQUIRED to not Required, but with the help of tech support (Thanks Melonie S), I was able to delete the field that was set to REQUIRED by using SQL Manager, which was my original intent. This does not appear to have caused any issues with my GDB, although it MAY have turned off my versioning. I wanted to document the steps here for others.....but suggest testing on a copy of your database before attempting. That is, USE WITH CAUTION In SQL Manager:
use yourGDBName ALTER TABLE [dbo].[FcName] DROP COLUMN [fieldToDelete] delete from dbo.SDE_column_registry where table_name = FcName AND column_name = fieldToDelete
dbo = the FC owner, and could be sde or another username FcName = name of the Feature Class or table that needs modifying puntuation is as shown, with brackets needed, and no quotes anywhere. I recommend making sure you dont have any domains or any other topology rules, etc. attached to the field before you delete.

How can I deleted a "REQUIRED" field? I'm attempting to delete a field that I added thru a python script. We (tech support and I) were able to track it down to my accidently adding it as "REQUIRED". (Bummer!) She's trying to track down the answer on that end, but I thought I would throw it out there to the user group in case anyone knows the trick to do this. I'm assuming it will be a SQL-Manager hack. I have tried all the typical ArcCatalog/Map/toolbox methods, and the "replace field" tool in the "X-Ray to Geodatabases" addin with the the "required" box unselected. The replace-tool did create the temp field, but then still failed with the "ERROR 001334: Cannot delete required field <fieldname>". This is my "master" file (which I am doing maintenance one) with all the bells and whistles (versions, edit tracking, archiving, topology-rules, subtypes, domains, etc.) turned on, so I'm trying not to lose all that. Worst case scenario is I lose the history etc (I'm assuming) and rebuild the subtypes/domains/rules and use the X-Ray tool to clean it all up. Anyone know any tricks to get rid of the REQUIRED field without destroying my Geodatabase? ArcSDE (SQL2008) 10.2.1. Thanks for any suggestions, Becky

Although there are quite a few threads re: ActiveX errors, this one had the least amount to read thru. Other threads (which are valid for many situations) discuss regedit of Zones. In my case, none of those solutions worked, and this error was starting to cause issues with my ArcGIS Server publishing and caching too. So just to throw this out there...Internet Explorer (IE) 10 and/or 11 is the culprit. I uninstalled back to IE9 and things are back to normal.

I wasn't able to add an UPDATE to the above so....(just in case someone else is wondering): Short answer....WMS layers are not valid for a basemap in the BaseMapGallery dijit in JS API, at least at this time (I tried v3.8, which is the latest). my comment.....funny that they work with AGOL basemap gallery and the Flex basemapgallery widget. My guess is it is an enhancement that is not yet built into the JS API....but I admittedly have no idea what it would take to allow them to be used int he dijit, or if it's even possible.

I am trying to use the Javascript API Base Map Gallery dijit to display my tiled services in WKID 3338 (Alaska Albers) and would like to add two layers that are WMS services. However, I'm not sure how to how to specify the spatial reference 3338 for the WMS services --- or, it may be that it isn't really seing the WMS at all. Test site: http://gis.adfg.alaska.gov/temp/widget_basemapList.html The two marked GINA are the WMS services. Previously, I was able to add the WMS layers in Flex using the wiget that is modifyable within the Flex Viewer Builder App and the main difference I see between the two is that in Flex <layer > has a "type=", where "esri/dijit/BasemapLayer" does not have a "type:" and instead seems to want the url. My best guess is the basemap gallery dijit is not putting the WMS services in the correct Spatial Reference and/or extent. I have the option to use our ArcGIS Online account if I can get it to work together in a group online. I had the code working access a custom (basemap) group from our enterprise arcgis account, but haven't worked the spatial reference issue out there either for the WMS.....so open for suggestions. BTW - Javascript API 3.8, and using AMD module/structure. Thanks... partial code is below.... function createBasemapGallery() {

just in case you haven't figured it out yet, you can select the records in the join that don't have a match with: <fieldname> IS NULL where the fieldname is one of the fields in the parcel feature class. The reverse is, i.e getting the ones that DO match: <fieldname> IS NOT NULL Figuring our how to select <NULL> field value is sometimes hard to figure out or remember (for me it is anyway)

I'm now using 10.2 and am using my solution above on a Win2008-R2 machine (not sure if that has anything to do with it). I'm having an issue with the Python Scripts not exiting properly. They process and finish processing fine, but I have had one of three things happen (per viewing processing in Results): 1) finishes and closes fine with no issues; 2) one finishes fine; second on pops up the esri error reporting sheet (I sent 3 reports in today because of this) 3) finishes processing, says it's successful, but never closes (i.e. hour glass remains in Results). Any I start up after have the clock/pending symbol. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm thinking I am missing a command to make sure these close properly (will review my addin scripts again. Or are we missing a way to cleanly close the scripts with my simple instructions above? I have only checked this on one machine and have not gone thru tech support yet. Thought I would see if others have had this problem. Thanks
