Evan, Yes! In ArcToolbox, you can use the Alter Field tool. It will let you change the name of the field and aliases too. ArcToolbox>Data Management Tools>Fields>Alter Field Regards, Tom

Agreed! Mansour and Sagit always have an excellent presentation. I really enjoy their Killer Apps series. Very excited to see what they have this year!

Blake, You are correct, the docs do say you can use a string for a single field. In this case just a coding preference. If you had more fields, the tuple would already be in place. Regards, Tom

Blake, It must be a tuple. The extra parenthesis make it a tuple. Regards, Tom

Gabriel, It look like you may be confusing how you are using cursors in python. The Data Access module cursors have some distinct differences. You don't need to specify the field for your cursor. This might work: curs = arcpy.UpdateCursor(fc) for row in curs: desc = arcpy.Describe(fc) val = desc.name print val row.setValue(fieldName1,val) curs.updateRow(row) del curs, row Notice that I have removed the .da. from your cursor reference and indented the updateRow line. Regards, Tom

Erik, If you don't have a specific month and day for them, you can just set them all to January 1st for that year. When you are display the dates anywhere you can just display the year. It might be best to just keep the field as an integer if you are only concerned with the year. Regards, Tom

Steve, Apologies, I may have misunderstood you. I had thought that you were relying on ArcMap to interpret the projection of data that was unknown. Regards, Tom

Greetings Steve, When you are adding data from a spreadsheet and using the Display XY Data, you must specify the projection of that dataset for it to be properly projected onto your existing map. So if your map is in a state plane projection and your spreadsheet coordinates are actual latitudes and longitudes (WGS84), set the coordinate system when displaying them to WGS84 and then they can be projected on the fly to match your map coordinates. ArcMap has no other way to automatically interpret the coordinates in your spreadsheet. Regards, Tom

Greg, That is straight from the "Building Label Expressions" in the ArcGIS Documentation. I did a test on my data and it absolutely does cast the field values into strings. Regards, Tom
