I had a look and I can't find a geoprocessing too or anything that will do this. You can select a contiguous set of lines (route), then ctrl-click buttons in the feature attributes box to get to (and select) the related class field for all of them, but then you can't assign a value en bloc to the selection. As originally posted, you must literally right-click then 'Add Selected' for Each. And. Every. Feature. One. At. A. Time. Esri's work flow for this process is not efficient. This is fine for two or three items, but in our business datasets, this could be hundreds or even thousands of features.

According to this (horribly outdated) Esri blog, you're doing it right. I tried various searches of both Support and Geonet and couldn't find a comprehensive list of bugs and what their status is. It's like Esri has wiped them out and doesn't want them searchable. I find it amazing that the first thing Esri does is issue you a Nimbus bug ID, the second thing they do is make it all but impossible to track it online or discuss it. /adjusts tinfoil fedora. If you visit http://resources.arcgis.com/known-issues you can see what they're working on now, but it's just a subset, and although NIMs are in there, they are not immediately shown or searchable as they're inside folded elements, not in page text. Amusingly, clicking on 'Previous Known Issues' results in Forbidden You don't have permission to access /content/previous-known-issues/10.0 on this server. ArcWS/4.0.20 Server at resources.arcgis.com Port 80 I also found this nice listing for 10SP4, but can't find any way to navigate out or up to other lists http://gisupdates.esri.com/IssuesAddressedLists/ArcGIS10sp4-issues.htm#desktop-sp4 According to some other posters http://support.esri.com/en/bugs/nimbus/ used to track bugs but is now 404.

Probably not the same situation you're having at all, but we receive this error because our machines sometimes 'lose' mapped drives. As we store the .rbj files on enterprise mapped network drives for easy access anything that interferes with that also stops data reviewer from working in batch processing mode. In this case domain authentication is dropped - Outlook can't sync, same for anything using the proxy (we also use proxy authentication so goodbye Google Earth/Maps, etc), as well as any DB authentication (we use kerberos on Windows 7 to link the domain account to Oracle RDBMS) so connections inside ArcGIS that rely on this will also fail. This is a concern for us as we have moved to OS authentication on the DB for access control for our spatial editing system, as well as moving customisations (add-ins) to a network drive for simple distribution, management and version control. So in this case, losing the OS authentication and then mapped drives means we effectively lose production, except for what can be done out of the box with local data.

We (DPIPWE) also prefer the vertical general toolbar for the most part. Our workaround is to undock the TOC and have it floating on a second monitor, with ArcMap maximised on the primary monitor. As our workflows do not generally involve a lot of messing around with the layers, and our editors predominantly use separate 'template' working documents for each task they prefer to have everything set up and ready to go, with the toolbar in the place of the TOC. This also has the advantage of maximising the map pane.

Here's one I just found: Field name. You would think it would be easy to test all indexed locations to find all datasets that have a certain field. Let's say that a field has had its format changed for a set of client datasets. I need to find all of those datasets on our system that use this field and update them to match. Easy, right? I just type the field into 'Find' and away we g... No, "0 items". The only way to do this appears to either to manually view properties on every item in the database(!), dump database schema to text and parse, or write a gp script to search connections for this information. (Yes I did ReadTheFineManual)

...Even though ArcInfo Workstation "retired" at 10.2 I think, we still have users using it today. ... You're not alone. There was a GIS specialist job that was advertised here for a state agency recently and some of the core criteria were experience in managing spatial data/processing in ArcInfo Workstation and the ability to develop AML code. This agency is not even at ArcGIS-level yet, let alone Pro.

In my non-professional experience (A.Dip. Network Engineering, many years experience system building, desktop and GIS support), this is perfectly safe. It is a simple change that is easily undone, and you can also backup the registry entry and restore it if it all goes pear-shaped. In fact I recommend making a backup before editing anything to anyone considering fooling around with the registry. That said, your IT group may take a very dim view of such activity, if not banning it outright - for good reasons usually. It's the equivalent of fiddling around with your car's spark plug cables and fan belts - while the engine is running. So I'd say that Derek Law has it right, and everyone interested in this tool should vote up the idea. It's quite silly that in this day and age, we're relying on a 10.0 third-party extension and registry hacks to manage enterprise geodatabases!

Have you tried the GDBT registry hack by asrujit_pb? We have used this to put GDBT on clean ArcGIS installs from 10.1 to 10.3.1, no problems. (Not tested on 10.4 yet)

You can install the 64-bit geoprocessing extension for ArcGIS Desktop, which is nice but a bit of a pain to configure, especially in a mix of 32/64 bit applications, particularly with Python (and 32-bit-only libraries) and Oracle client. We found a slight improvement in processing time which we hope will offset the R&D and support resources invested to make it work. My organisation has several hundred thousand lines worth of active customisations for Desktop, so we have no plans to ever move from Desktop to Pro until we have No Other Choice™.

I agree that despite ongoing warnings, Esri probably will continue to have VBA compatibility in 10.x (it costs them nothing to roll it in after all), but I doubt they will offer any support at all. I suspect if you were to take a VBA issue to support they would respond with 'not a supported feature, please update your code'. That said, you never know when they might yank the carpet out from underfoot - they have been making this call for at least seven years. Fair call on prototyping, and that is essentially what we were doing as well. Unfortunately a lot of the time schedule demands mean that the prototype gets badged as production for small projects instead of going through full product development...

It's worthwhile noting that Esri has been warning users to switch over and threatening to get rid of VBA for many years, since 10.0, and you are developing in what is essentially an unsupported environment. ArcGIS Desktop and VBA? | ArcGIS Blog (2009) "Is VBA supported at ArcGIS 10.1? At ArcGIS 10.1 there will not be an ArcObjects VBA SDK nor will new VBA development with ArcGIS for Desktop be supported. There will be an optional separate setup for legacy VBA support in the ArcGIS applications. This will require an additional licence authorisation similar to ArcGIS 10. VBA will be available if needed so existing solutions can continue to work while the code is being migrated to .NET. We recommend all users with VBA code start migrating now to an add-in or custom extension using the ArcObjects SDK for .NET or Java. This is the end of the support of VBA as a development or customisation language for ArcGIS." - See more at: https://esriaustralia.com.au/products-arcgis-software-101-faqs#7 " (2011, emphasis mine) To actually answer your question there's quite a bit of legacy code still available at places like stackoverflow and Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange. I also use a lot of the original resources such as ArcObjects 10 VBA SDK Help. Asides from the ArcObjects-specific help, there is a wealth of internet VBA resources, mostly centered around Microsoft Office, particularly Excel if you're looking for a non-GIS coding solution. So, if for example you want to get VBA to talk to Access then visiting MS support sites and forums would be the way to go. Edit: Reworded last sentence so it didn't misconstrue Ethan's question.

I was just helping a client with almost the same issue (8-bit RGB TIFF, saves as rectified black TIFF) and found the same fix, but I was setting 255 as the nodata value. You actually can still use this file, but you have to set RGB stretch to not-None in ArcMap and this doesn't help you at all outside ArcMap. I didn't get any joy out of changing the environment settings, mostly because I believe they only apply to geoprocessing tools. My Google-Fu failed. Does anyone know of a way to set the default nodata value in the Georeferencing - Rectify - Save As dialog so that you don't have to reset it for every single rectification?

This is great resource, thank you Curtis. It's going off-topic a little, but our organisation is actually moving away from the batch files we've used since forever and we're finding a lot of success using the overly-cumbersome acroynmised MSSCCM*. From a support/dev standpoint it's great as we can hand off that overhead to ICT, yet still retain fine-grained control of the application installation and configuration if we need to. My time spent on this task has gone from hours (developing, debugging, testing, error/exception handling) to just minutes (load to server, email ICT to tell them where it is and what to do with it) . It also makes version control and administration simple compared to inspecting machines manually. You can also 'advertise' a new version to software users and I suspect mandatory push it as well with the right policies. ICT likes it as they get better control of enterprise software - they also take a dim view of us hacking around in the registry and similar turf invasions. From the user perspective, it's win-win as well. An in-situ upgrade of ArcGIS Desktop automagically keeps their .sde connections (you had to do that manually or script it yourself), it's a simple one-button action, they can keep working on non-GIS duties while it works in the background. It's also not tied to mapped drives and not as susceptible to glitches as scripts can be. If you have this capability, I highly recommend it. * Disclaimer: I am not employed by or affiliated with Microsoft, I received no monetary or otherwise gainful compensation for this comment. I'm just highly surprised and pleased that something MS made actually works are advertised and is actually effective and efficient.

Our open data is all in our local spatial reference for domestic use in desktop GIS/mapping. However, we're getting a lot of use out of web services in WGS_1984_Web_Mercator_Auxiliary_Sphere_3857 because it goes with Google maps to make mashups, with clients consuming our vector data over Google's imagery.
