"Because an enterprise geodatabase faster than a file geodatabase." I don't think that this statement is true. If you don't need feature access (editing), use a fgdb as you have outlined.

I am sure it is possible, what sort of info does your "metadata table" contain. It has always been a minor irritation to me that arcpy doesn't (at least I haven't seen it anyway) allow you to use CreatFeatureClass and have as input a Field Map to define all the attributes you want. But then again, I suppose Field Mappings are focused on input / output rather than to create something from scratch. So maybe, this is too late in the day to be speculating like this.

I have just jigged up some dummy raster data with 10 classes / colours. See attached zip, includes the tif image, a lyr and the clr exported from this. Looking at the clr, those rgb vals look real this time. Not sure whats going on. Thanks,

Sorry, but can you see the mosaic (as is, not the service) in ArcMap? What version, desktop, server etc

Xander, thanks, very interesting. I loaded the image via a lyr file which was supplied from the image (the data source just ha to be re-set). So I exported the clr from the Unique values renderer. If I change this to the Colormap renderer, I see this whole list 0 - 255, with the actual colours, about 25 different ones, the rest are all 255, 255, 255. I apply, of course all the labels have now been lost. Then I export that one to clr, to get this : Only the first 26 (which is probably how many colours I had in the first place) are exported. But most of these are 255, 255, 255. What gives??? ArcMap v10.4.1 (on Win10 64bit).

I think you need some licence or something to use *.ecw in a map service(?). Why not convert them to tif first, then build a mosaic from that, plus overviews etc etc.

Do colour map files (*.clr) actually really give you the true rgb values of the colour you see in ArcMap? I was helping someone with some questions about classified imagery. The data was a Land cover dataset which the veteran Curtis Price had a hand in many moons ago. This is a classified image with a lyr file. So I exported the colour map to a clr. the clr file looks like this (its just text so open it in any text editor): And in ArcMap the colours look like this : But when I clip a small portion out of this image, and re-apply the colour map I have just exported, the colours look like this : So, what are the "r,g,b" values in that colour file. If I use a colour picker on the web, vals 240, 240, 241 (Code 11 - Open water) is indeed a whitish shade, not blue as in the original.

Considering we started with something like this, which was speculated to have come from an already interpolated dataset : And now we are on to Kriging wotsitzs. And via scripting? Aside from the fact that I think that Kriging this data is way too much, why not just use the normal GUI tools until you are more experienced with the millions of options. Got too far.....

Your visuals are excellent as usual. Thanks you for compiling all the links to Define, project, Coord systems etc etc. If only people would read this stuff before they go and mess up their data by Defining, when they really need a Project.....

I very much doubt it. These are photos later scanned to get them into an image file. The pixel coordinates will depend on the position through the scanner. I very much doubt there will be any correlation between pictures as to the exact pixel locations of fiducial marks. However, you do seem to have the picture centre in Lat/Long. Perhaps something could be engineered out of that.

As Dan_Patterson says, the Convert Coordinate Notation tool will allow you to add XY in DMS, DM, etc. These are coordinate "notations", ways of describing the lat/long. They cannot actually be used as input into the GIS directly as coordinates, because they are not a number, but a string representation.
