Using flex builder 3.6. If a user makes a selection using like the e search widget and then prints hoping that they get the highlighted polygons it will not print the highlighting. If a user clicks a polygon and it's highlighted it will print. Any suggestions on things to look at? Thank you Aaron

The copyright line on the print widget gets cut off on the print job when too long. Anyone know if there is a way to make it like vbnewline so all of the text fits? How about a specific disclaimer text line?

Ok. So we spent an entire day and night testing. 4 SQL servers. All same OS, Windows 2012 64 bit. same processor, same ram, same data. 1. Sql 2012 Geometry 2. Sql 2012 SDE Binary 3. Sql 2008 R2 Geometry 4. Sql 2008 R2 SDE Binary. The results were Option 1, 2, and 3 were major fails. Option 4, sql 08R2 with SDE Binary was 2-4 times faster than any of the others, especially when in an edit session. The snapping tool was almost instantaneous in option 4. It was horrible, I mean horrible in 1,2, and 3. We will be converting 1Tb of data back to Windows 2012, 64 bit, SQL 2008 R2 SP2 64bit, and SDE 10.2.2 in the very near future. Converting to SDE Binary from Geometry in SQL 2012 did nothing. Disabling hyperthreading wasn't even an option. Please ESRI tell us when this mess is squared away and we can migrate hassle free. Cheers!

Jake- I created two new test databases. In one I copied data and used the Geometry config and in the other I used the SDEbinary config. My Geography data type test was a bust because of the datum/coordinate system issue. A side by side test of just load speeds and in an edit session show they perform the same. Thank you Aaron

Our previous production system was Version 10.0 service pack 5. The new one is 10.2.2. Your note made me think. In our previous version we were running sde schema with direct connect. This new version is all DBO with direct connect. I wouldn't think that would matter. Let me look into that geometry vs sdebinary. Standby.

We recently completed a major upgrade and migration. Our SDE went from Windows 2008 with SQL Server 2008R2 and we migrated to Windows 2012 and SQL Server 2012 (all new is 64bit). We have the exact same settings, using a better and newer server even, the data is the same, server and sql and sde configs all the same, direct connect all the way around on all servers. However, we immediately noticed that the SDE on SQL 2012 is HORRIBLE. The desktop editing process lags and hangs, its like working through Citrix in 1994. The web map application load times went from 1-3 seconds to 10-40 seconds depending on load. Same RAM, Same CPU.... the only difference is we went to SQL 2012. There was a similar bug reported for 10.1 here NIM082657 - When working with an SQL Server 2012 geodatabase a.. It appears this isn't actually fixed. If someone has any experience with this scenario please comment and reach out to me. Thanks!!! Aaron

US Addresses - Dual Range is the recommended style for TIGER addrfeat shapefiles. Hi folks, I am having trouble finding the "correct" address locator style to use with the TIGER 2013 addrfeat shapefile for my county in NJ. I am wondering if I'm doing anything "wrong" in terms of saving or storing data. I have the addrfeat shapefile in a GDB, and I have directed Arcmap to save the address locator in the GDB. The problem is the dreaded RED X on the LH side of the screen after I select the addrfeat file as the Primary Table. Is there anything I may be mssing in terms of storing data? I am an old dog (literally) who is finally trying to update my course directions to Arc10, including the use of file GDB for storage (vs conventional folders). Thanks for any help anyone can provide. bill in nj

Maybe someone can comment on this.... With older versions of the Flex viewer, when the REST services directory was disabled you would get polygons on the map but none of the widgets worked...no popup, no search, etc. The newer version of the viewer you can now get popups while the Services Directory is disabled but still the search widget, including Robert's awesome esearch widget will not work. It looks like maybe there is another URL option for the REST service that will enable the tools to work when its disabled but I hit a wall on the intel. MapServer?f=jsapi or MapServer?f=amf Anyone figured out a way to "hide" your services from the world while at the same time exposing them and all of the functionality through the Flex viewer? It seems silly that we would have to keep that directory open to the world just to use the flex viewer. Thank you! Aaron

Guys- I am having the same issue. This is just ridiculous. However I found this text on a REST API page: "Disabling the Services Directory is recommended as a best practice for ArcGIS Server systems that are public. You may choose to enable the Service Directory on production systems, only if there is a need to make the HTML pages and forms available to the end users. Once disabled, users are not able to view and use the services using Services Directory HTML pages i.e requests that are made for HTML output format (f=html or when parameter f is not specified). They'll receive an error message if they attempt to access the Services Directory once it has been disabled by the admin. All client applications (Web APIs, Desktop, Mobile, etc.) that programmatically access the Services using JSON or other output formats will continue to function as expected." I am just now trying to figure out how to make my Flex web maps use this JSON format..... Anyone?

I had this same error today. Had the error in Chrome when trying to use the tools and then tried it in IE and it works fine. Not sure what that means.

Julia- If I understand you correctly.... Its my impression that what you see in the sample/example is exactly that, a sample. If I remember correctly, those are very much like placeholders in the widget. You need to add your own data in the main config and then edit the esearch widget config with your respective data. If that is not the problem, maybe those sample data sets have changed or been edited. Aaron

This print service is hosted on the Amazon Cloud (Amazon AWS). If you have an IT team that is monitoring web traffic, sometimes they will notice that you are getting a lot of traffic from these IP addresses such as 174.129.18.254 This IP address is where the print service is coming from. So anyway, IT doesn't see that its ESRI, just Amazon and the IP address ends up blocked by IIS, you will get that error. Some companies have it set up to block IPs automatically based on some kind of algorithm. I also think there is something to do with the URL for your mapservice and the case sensitivity of the URL, make sure that's all well and good. I end up seeing errors in the Print tool when there are more than 1000 features in my map view or if my map service is under heavy load and its not responding fast enough. So you will have to zoom into a closer area to get that print tool to work correctly. Lastly, if you have data in the map that is scale dependent, I noticed that I would get print errors if the user was not zoomed in close enough to have all of the layers active. For instance at the initial view, if it was just a basemap and no dynamic content it would fail. Clearly very moody this thing....

I have been having issues with this widget, on and off, it worked for a few days great and then stopped working. I kept getting that error that "Google has disabled the application...". I got a couple different errors as well. I have struggled with this. Initially I thought Google shut me down, I thought maybe my mobile phone integration with the core web map messed it up. I thought maybe it was browsers, my network, popup blockers, antivirus, etc etc. I think I have spent 30 hours looking at this. In the end.... what I came up with is, if you build a fresh Flex web map with the 3.6 Viewer for Flex, add the Google Street View widget, configure and save. It works. Having the initial screen pop up that an image isn't available while covering the actual widget is a bit confusing but it works as expected. Adding this streetview widget by just editing the widgets folder and configs to a previous version web map, even after it has been "upgraded" with the Viewer for Flex, creates all kinds of errors for me. I dug through file after file and the only difference between the brand new, fresh 3.6 Viewer for Flex created web map and an "upgraded" Viewer for Flex application, is that the new freshly created version contains a bit more text in the main Index.html file. The text in the new one that works is between the commented text (commented text in both versions for reference): // JavaScript enabled so display the flashContent div in case it is not replaced with a swf object. swfobject.createCSS("#flashContent", "display:block;text-align:left;"); if (swfobject.ua.ie && swfobject.ua.win) { swfobject.addLoadEvent( function() { var app = swfobject.getObjectById("index"); if (app) { app.focus(); } } ); } </script> </head> <body> <!-- SWFObject's dynamic embed method replaces this alternative HTML content with Flash content when enough JavaScript and Flash plug-in support is available. The div is initially hidden so that it doesn't show when JavaScript is disabled. The Index.html of a web mapping application that works, but in which the Google Streetview widget does not work correctly, lacks this little bit of text. There may be some differences in the Index.swf but I am not able to look at those.... So as things stand now, I have Flex web mapping applications that are working and have the Google Streetview widget added. The ones that do not work have some missing Index.html that is a carry over from the previous version(s) of the Viewer for Flex. Hopefully this little clue will help solve some issues. Thank you. Aaron

Robert, I have a Flex app that has worked fine with Store.gis.ACCOUNTS.prop_id being a String. The following line works great. <value prompt="Example: 2095 (Numbers Only - Finds All)" isValueRequired="true">Store.gis.ACCOUNTS.prop_id LIKE '%[value]%' </value> However, I now have a new table in which .prop_id is actually stored as an Integer, length 10. I can not change the database/table but I still need to search the contents of this field like its a string. Is there a way to use something like: <value prompt="Example: 2095 (Numbers Only - Finds All)" isValueRequired="true"> CAST (Store.gis.ACCOUNTS.prop_id as VARCHAR(10)) LIKE '%[value]%' </value> Just curious.... Thank you! Aaron
