Anthony and Nicole, Nicole is correct, you wouldn't be able to do this out of the box with just Survey123. You could do some back end geoprocessing however. You could collect your geopoint with Survey123 and on the back end at night or every couple of hours or minutes fire of a geoprocessing task that utilizes GeoEnrichment to grab census data with in a mile/2mile/3Mile etc buffer and then you could have the total number of homesteads. However that is looking at Census data that has already been collected from 2010. You could also do this with LiDAR analysis to detect volumetric change. You would need multiple years of LiDAR data to compare but it would show new structures but it may also catch additions made to existing structures too but some simple analysis could probably eliminate additions from the results.

Happy Tuesday, It has been a busy week here at the Esri Transportation Labs and we are pleased to release the CAD to GIS integration Geoprocessing tools highlighted at the CAD to GIS Webinar on Wednesday August 31, 2016. There are 3 tools to check out. CAD to Webmap. This tool allows an organization to publish a CAD file to ArcGIS Online as hosted features so Contractors, Construction Workers and Engineers can take the data into the field on a mobile device like Collector. Data can be marked up and or edited and the tool will pull the changes and mark up back down to the ground in a CAD file for review by designers. CAD to GIS without Surface. This tool simply converts 3D CAD features to 3D GIS features. No extensions required CAD to GIS with Surface. This tool converts 3D CAD features to 3D GIS Features and creates a raster surface from contours found in the CAD file. I've also included videos found below the geoprocessing tool downloads that explain the set up, care and feeding required of these tools. Please post your questions and comments. I look forward to seeing all the creative ways your DOT makes use of these utilities. I also encourage you to enhance ans progress the tools. Download the tools here:

Emily, In this case since you want to ues the routing service to generate driving directions, you would add the URL to a routing widget. So for example if I were configuring Web App Builder application with the Directions widget. In the configuration there is a route URL. I would replace it with the URL I generated when I created the proxy service. So in this case the URL isn't added to the web map but rather to a widget. How you add the URL depends on how the URL is accessed Route Services are accessed via Geoprocessing or Widgets. Live Traffic is accessed as a layer. The out of the box directions web app provided with ArcGIS Online already takes care of securing the directions service on your behalf but I don't think it gives you any control of how many routes can be generated. The workflow I provide lets you choose that threshold. Let me know if you need more help and as always you can also call Tech Support and they actually walk you through the steps.

Emily, Copy the proxy URL that you configured in the Developers.arcgis.com website. The URL that was generated is an encoded rest endpoint with the necessary permissions to your ArcGIS Online account. Open the web map that you want to add the traffic service to in the web map viewer. Click the "Add" button on the map viewer and choose "Add Layer from Web" then paste the URL that you copied earlier. Now that the layer is added you can set transparency, scale threshold, refresh interval, symbology and popups.

Carl, I just spoke with the Product Manager for Survey123. Auto-Complete is in the backlog and will get address. It likely won't make the cut for the summer but the team recognizes the need and will make it a feature after Survey123 goes final.

I did some digging and it does not appear to be supported. I've got a question into the Survey123 team to see if it is in the backlog or planned for a later release. I'll let you know what I find. Eric Rodenberg

Olaniyan, I want to make sure I understand your question. You have a survey question (field/column) and you want to automatically calculate the value of that column based on the answers of previously submitted surveys (rows)? To my knowledge Survey 123 does not support reaching back into the feature service to pull out previous surveys and sum the values of a field. This is due to the fact that Survey123 is working in an offline state storing the surveys until you upload the results. I can reach back into previous questions in the current survey. So if your survey has three questions, Number of persons sampled building , and number of persons in residential building I can sum those values and pre-populate the third question called estimated population and hide it from the survey. So my question to you are you trying to do this the first way or the second way. To do this the second way, refer to this link which explains how to create a calculation from previous questions using the XLSforms Calculation Column... Survey123 for ArcGIS support for XLSForm

This is a sample survey configured using Survey 123 of HPMS Sample Inspections using a schema provided by the Idaho Department of Transportation. To install and get started: Go to Survey123.arcgis.com and download the Survey123 Connect application for Windows, Mac or Ubuntu. Download the zip file or download the most updated version from ArcGIS Online to a machine with Survey123 Connect. Unpack the zip file to "C:\users\<your username>\ArcGIS\My Survey Designs Open Survey123 Connect and the HPMS Survey will be one of a survey in your list of surveys to choose from.

First, thanks to Peter Gamberg on the State and Local Government Team for helping me by updating the steps in the workflow. It has been several years since I wrote this and I knew the workflow had changed based on updates made to the Esri Developers site but my priorities have been elsewhere. As you build more and more ArcGIS Online web applications for your organization, you'll likely need to include one of Esri's Premium Services, such as Live Traffic, especially if your organization is a State Department of Transportation. While Live Traffic does not cost credits, it does require a named user to access the premium content. You, of course, know this because when you launched the application, which you tirelessly spent all that time configuring, you hit the snag where the app requires the user to sign in. So how are you supposed to deploy a public app with traffic cameras, weather, and live traffic if your app requires a login? You could provide an access token and embed it in your application, but this requires custom development, and you must host the application yourself. Also, this method creates a security risk because your token could be hijacked and used without you ever knowing. A more straightforward solution is to create a proxy service configuration for the premium service of your choice. A proxy service allows you to encode and manage your credentials inside a service URL. Additionally, proxy services support rate-limiting. Proxy services allow you to make the Esri World Geocoding Service available to an end-user for batch Geocoding or other operations which do consume credits. However, it protects you because you can specify the rate at which addresses can be batch geocoded, preventing runaway usage while allowing the public the access they need. Here is how it works. Log in to developers.arcgis.com with your ArcGIS Online credentials Register your application by choosing New Application Provide the Application Details Click on the Services Tab Scroll down to the Service Proxies area. Select the service you wish to proxy and enter a rate limit for the number of requests you want to allow over a given period. Copy the newly created proxy URL and add it to the webmap that your application is consuming. Remove the original service if it exists and save the webmap. Log out of all web sessions using your ArcGIS Online credentials or use Incognito Mode on your browser to test that your app opens without challenging you for credentials. (This is a quick trick to allow you to open the browser with a cleared browser cache.) Open your web application and bask in the glory of your app opening with Premium Services that don't prompt your public users for an ArcGIS Online Username and Password. Try it live Besides Traffic and Batch Geocoding you can also proxy the following services: Service Proxy Value Geocoding geocode Geoenrichment geoenrichment Routing route Rout@@ing (Async) asyncRoute Closest Facility closestFacility Closest Facility (Async) asyncClosestFacility Service Area serviceArea Service Area (Async) asyncServiceArea Location Allocation asyncLocationAllocation Vehicle Routing Problem syncVRP Vehicle Routing Problem (Async) asyncVRP World Traffic traffic Elevation elevation Elevation elevationSync Hydrology hydrology

Back in the ArcInfo workstation days there was a concept know as Reference Columns (I think). The idea is this. A user calls with a serivce complaint. A a feature and a date is populated indicating when the feature is created. Another column keeps track of the complaint status... open/closed. As long as that complaint is open a third field is created and a framework is inplace to note that state is open and the current date. The fiels is then populated with the number of days open which is based on the created date and the current date. Another example. Users creates a polygon or line etc, and the refecence framework allows me to auto calculate on the fly representing the area of the polygon in Acres or the lenth of the line in miles or feet. So the framework would need to have the logic to allow me to create a calculation, and pick 1 or more fields that need to be involved. Conceptually this is exactly like a Database trigger but implemented in the ArcGIS Platform. Ideally this would workin in a geodatabase or on a hosted feature service in ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS. This would be incredibly useful to mobile field collectors, Operations Dashboards, and web applications

Ok, so I followed the instructions on installing the Instagram connector via download on the GeoEvent Processor Resource Center Gallery. I set up my instagram client and received my client id and client secret but none of my photos get pulled in when I create the connector. I feel like I'm missing a step.

I ran into an issue a couple of weeks ago where I tried to open a GeoEvent definition and Manager opened into a blank page. I solved the problem by logging into Manager as arcgis/manager. Apparently ArcGIS was the owner of the GeoEvent Definition and only the owner can view/edit it. Getting ready for a demo tomorrow and I am using the Twitter connector. All was great till I tried to login to the GeoEvent Definition and none of them will open. Any ideas...? How can I figure out who the owner is?
