How could a map change the way your students understand history? Immerse students in the geography of the 1930’s U.S. Dust Bowl. Use population change, agricultural patterns, and precipitation to help students understand how and why the Dust Bowl occurred by using a free tool called Geoinquiries (www.esri.com/geoinquiries) from Esri. Mass customization is a growing tech trend, including software that is created to respond to learners as they progress. As teachers, we often differentiate to engage learners, so we need materials that can be tweaked quickly. GeoInquiries (www.esri.com/geoinquiries) are a set of lessons available for English, math, science, and social studies that enhance key concepts using the free ArcGIS Online website. They can be used out of the box or customized, making GeoInquiries a great starting point to meet the needs of your changing classroom. Read the full article at ResearchGate. >>

Ever want to take a quick, deep-dive into a map found in your students’ textbooks? Ever want to use a web-based map to bring that static, print map to life? Maybe the map you’re using would be better with interactive or near real-time data. Enter the new Earth Science GeoInquiries! Earth Science GeoInquiries from Esri are instructional resources designed for the U.S. middle school Earth Science classroom. Each Earth Science geoinquiry takes about 15 minutes, ties to the Next Generation Science Standards, and is based on map concepts found in the leading textbooks used in schools today. GeoInquiries are content-forward, teaching Earth science concepts first – and using ArcGIS Online maps and data to enhance that instruction, taking student engagement and inquiry deeper than they would experience with the text alone.
While this article is dated, it continues to describe some of the conceptual underpinning of Esri GeoInquiries™. The article is from NCGE's The Geography Teacher.

This short article describes a process where Python was used to harvest metadata from a list of identified ArcGIS Online maps and the maps’ data services. The data were logged to MySQL (with pymysql); a PHP web search and discovery page was created. The process allows for keyword searching in titles and descriptions of maps and data layers. If you are interested in a copy of all nine GeoInquiry™ collections including the new Level 2 activities on your school/district organization, send an email to [email protected] the following information:
The school AGO organization URL
A new/empty username in that organization. We generally recommend a username like: "geoinquiries.myschoolname" or "geoinquiries.schoolmascotname".
The password for the user account
The Esri Schools team will access your organization via the user account and create groups and link to GeoInquiries. This will allow teachers (or students) to search and discover GeoInquiry activities within the organization. This process is effectively a snapshot. The content on your organization will show future updates to existing activities but will not automatically add new collections or activities. The later will require a new copy.
For more information about GeoInquiries see http://www.esri.com/geoinquiries. To discuss or join the GeoInquiries community, see https://community.esri.com/groups/k12-instruction/projects/geoinquiries

The experimental GeoInquiry search tool allows an instructional designer or advanced GeoInquiry user to search GeoInquiry maps and data for keywords (and optionally add that data to their own map). The tool includes all Esri produced geoinquiries but also state GeoInquiries content. For example, a search for "climate" will search the metadata (including title and description) of about 150 maps and nearly 1,000 data services while ignoring all non-GeoInquiry content in ArcGIS Online. The database behind the tool is updated twice monthly to reflect the latest changes in map and data service metadata. Explore the tool at http://edgis.org/geoinquirysearch

1. the teachers need to be administrators to see their students my content page correct? - Not necessarily. A custom role could allow this functionality without elevating teachers to administrators. 2. And that means they will be able to see the my content page of anyone in the AGOO correct? - This is true. If a teacher with a custom (e.g. "SuperTeacher") or administrator role can see their students contents pages, then they could see any account's contents pages in that organization. 3. If the teacher requires that students share their work to a (class) group that means the students in the class can see each other's answers right? - Groups don't make good private dropboxes. Group members can view all items posted to a group. Other option: If teacher privileges cannot be elevated to see all students my content pages, then consider making a group for each teacher-student pairing. This takes more time initially of course to set-up but the workflow is faster for teachers to grade assignments throughout the year. This also ensures more privacy than either a class group or giving teachers elevated privileges provides. In this scenario, Ms Smith (teacher) might have 150 groups. She might use a group name like "Hr1-BAnderson". This group would contain Ms Smith and Billy Anderson (a first hour student). Billy would share assignments to this group and only Ms Smith could see the work. -Tom
