Thanks a lot Xande. That was indeed helpful. So to confirm, even if I stretch the color bar using gamma stretch it will not be reflected in the color bar? Yes this is an Arcmap so my apologies for posting it here - how do i move it?

Hi, We have been having this problem for ages but have never figured it out. Whenever we produce images in ArcMap our color bar is very small (Insert --> Legend) and holds very limited information. This is unlike other software we use which provides a legitimate sized color bar which also incorporates any stretching that we have made. In my doc file attached, in the first image with the arcmap color bar i actually performed a gamma stretch to increase the blue colors but i did not get a new color bar that shoed this change. I also wonder if there is no way to get a larger color bar like most other image processing software. Thanks a lot.

Hi, I have a network of sampling points in the East China Sea. I would like to use the Interpolation tool in Spatial Analyst Tools - I added a base map GSHHS_i_L1 and then my data from an excel spread sheet .xlsx and got the sampling locations. Then i brought in my spatial Analyst Took Bos, selected Interpolation -> Kriging But I keep getting the error that i have attached in my docx file. Oddly my colleague did the same and hers works fine. I used her file to try and see if it worked and it did not. I am really at loss here. Thanks Helga

This is a question that has long confounded us newbies to ARcmap in our group. Whenever we 'add data' an excel spreadsheet to a map's active frame we get errors if we have any spaces, characters like % etc. in the header row. So we end up 'cleaning' many columns and trying and trying before we are successful. I think that a powerful and popular application like ArcMap wouldnt be bothered by such characters and spaces as most spreadsheets have them and they are often necessary. So what are we doing wrong? Maybe there's something we dont know? Any help would be much appreciated. thanks a lot. Helga

Hi Xanders, Thanks for your reply. I finally got to the point where I could actually uncheck the Aspect ratio option. I right clicked the layer, Properties-> Data Frame Properties-> Data Frame _>Changed to Automatic. Then I hit Apply and OK. Then I went back again : Right clicked the layer, Properties-> Data Frame Properties-> Size Position. Changed it to the size I wanted. Then Zoom to Layer and it worked! I think getting in and out of Data Frame Properties somehow worked for me. I really have a lot of flexibility to display my maps now!!

Hi Xander, Thanks a lot for your response which seems the most logical but I seem to have one other problem which is that when I give the Size (width and Height in inches) it automatically adjusts the the Aspect Ratio so the figure becomes very large. This seems odd as the Aspect Ratio is greyed out (see Figure attached). also I cant access the Zoom to Layer as that too is greyed out for all the layers in my mxd file. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Helga

Hi, As a beginner I am having a lot of problems with Data Frame and the Grid. When I started to draw these maps my entire map fit quite nicely into the layout view and so then I used Export Map I got Figure 1 wherein the entire layout view area was covered by my figure. Bu then I realized that i had missed some points on the east so I extended my figure eastwards. In doing so I got a lot of bank spaces in the north as the map was extending both X and Y axis proportionally. So I used Data Frame Properties ->Fixed Extend and Chose about 13.5 degrees in the north. Now the figure was shortened to about half of the layout and when I exported it it looked very small with a lot of blank spaces around it. I tried to go back to my old layout but I couldnt do that either. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot! Helga

Hi Jayanta, Thank you very much for your response. My template now has a geo reference but it still doesnt fall into place when i overlay it on other mxd files. I made a grid on my mxd file and then dragged and dropped the template on it like you suggested. Attached is a figure of how it is mismatched. I wonder where i am going wrong.

Hi Jayanta, I went to back to this problem which i thought I had solved but the template that I made which I made does not have any geolocation. Its just a frame that sits on my new mxd figures no matter where the actual latitude or longitude is. Is there any way that I can save the geolocation? Thanks a lot. Helga

I hate to be bothering you Jayanta but although i understood what you are doing i cant seem to reproduce it with my data. I took the MXD file with the grid that I want and as removed all the layers. Then I saved it as MyTemplate in the Templates folder. The grid still remained but unlike what you have shown in the image above I cant see a DataFrame Layer like you have shown in the image. Is it a name you gave? In other words can i see the Data Frame Layer in my MXD file because right now I cannot see any such layer. Thanks a million!

Hi Jayant, Thanks ever so much. I think i understood it partially. 1) So in order to make my Template I take the MXD file that has all the settings that I want, then I remove all the layers 2) I Save As -> MyTemplate in C:\Users\helga\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.4\ArcMap\Templates 3) I then use this MyTemplate file to "Add" my project data and make a new MXD file. This will now have the grid from my template. BUT NOW MY QUESTION IS: What if I already have a MXD file which has no grid but I want to import the grid from MyTemplate into it. Can this not be done? Do I have to start with MYTemplate and then add layers to it?

Hi Jayanta, Thanks a million. Yes after using the "Show Hidden Files" i was able to navigate to C:\Users\helga\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.4\ArcMap 1)Then I took my colleague's file which has the correct grid and Save as into the above location and named it XXYY 2) Now i am still confused as to how to apply this XXYY template to my own files.Sorry!

To clarify I already have made my maps for a dataset X and now I would like to reproduce the exact grid with all the details that my colleague produced from her files to mine so we have the same identical grids as the region is the same.

Sorry Jayanta I did find the folder. So now do I just do File-> Save as->MyTemplate and then when I want to use it for another file how do I get MyTemplate back? Thanks a lot. Helga
