No, you don't need to. That is for ArcGIS Server feature service with EGDB non-versioned. If feature set is versioned, archiving is not required as well.

Sync is by directional. Since hosted feature service gets updated, it seems that upload succeeds. But it fails when the server is generating the delta from the server to client. If you try to download the map with the same extent as your field worker and add some edits and then sync, will you see the error?

Regarding using another Geographical Coordinate System in your map, the GPS location on the map can drift away. What device do you use? What is GPS accuracy?

You can have the same editable feature service and create different webmaps. One webmap is configured to be editing disabled for public users while the other webmap is editable for Collector.

Kerry, The issue is related to invalid field name. Layer 1 (LAKE_HYDRO_WaterQualityMonitoringResults_tbl) contains invalid field names (Water_Temperature_°C, Air_Temperature_°C). The workaround is to change Field name into others like Water_Temperature_Celsius.

Kerry, You can try to use fiddler to capture request parameters on Create Replica requset following http://blogs.esri.com/esri/supportcenter/2011/12/06/configuring-fiddler-to-capture-web-traffic-from-an-iphone-ipad-device/. We might have more insight of the issue. It might be related to related table you set. -Morgan
