Hi all, I would like to get a sense of where Insights for ArcGIS is going and where the community would like it to go. I like insights, its drag and drop functionality was very easy to learn and the tight integration with my spatial data is a welcome feature coming form other data science visualization software. However, it is lacking in fine control, at least from my experience so far. Here is an example: This is a report that I created in Power BI-- This is the closest I could come in Insights-- I can't place or format the title. I can't change the axis labels I can't customize the Y axis (i.e. set a maximum scale) I can't customize the time labels I can't change the line style (I think normally you can but with this time series it was stuck as dashed lines) I can't add a persistent legend (there is a pop out legend but the chart can't stand alone without a visible legend) In addition most of my data are time based but there is no interactive time slider for maps or charts (that I could see). What is the plan for Insights? Will this fine control eventually be implemented? Do other people in the community think these are desirable functions?

HI, I found this article Service definitions | ArcGIS for Developers on updating service definitions. This has a walk-through on how to change the feature capabilities, however it gives me an error "Unable to update capabilities". Does anyone know if it is possible to update the capabilities of related tables? Is this a database side restriction?

I have a feature service with a parent table and several related child tables. Each child table supports a part of a weeks long workflow and has its own form that references the feature service. Responses entered in the child tables update fields in the related parent. I want this to happen in the background, however I can't seem to modify parent fields without manually refreshing the calculation. If a create a new record with this form the calculations are automatic, but updating the parent requires clicking on this button. For example: Here is a simple form with a repeat: type name geoPoint location_point The point location dateTime event_date The date the point was collected begin repeat child The child table integer entry Some data entry that triggers a change to the parent end repeat text event_closed The event was closed The first two are collected in the initial collection form: type name geoPoint location_point dateTime event_date hidden event_closed The repeat and the "event closed" are collected in a child form: type name geoPoint location_point Read only (used for reference) dateTime event_date Read only begin repeat child The child table integer entry Some data entry end repeat calculate event_closed if(sum(${entry})>1,"yes","no") In the child form "event_closed" is invisible because it is set to a calculation. It should populate the parent field with either "yes" or "no" depending on the data collected, but it is not working that way. When I expose the field in the form by changing from "calculate" to text I see the refresh button which I have to manually press for the calculation to take place. Hi, I am just starting to use Insights 3.4 enterprise. I have several hundred features in a single neighborhood that I need to view, however I am unable to zoom closer than the city level. Is there a way to allow the map to zoom much closer? Thanks,

Hello, I have nested relates that I need to be able to view in a web interface of some sort (Web map, Operations Dashboard, Story maps, a combination of several, etc.) When a person selects the parent feature all of the relates cascade out in a single view. I created this in ArcGIS Pro. Is there a way to see all this data in a single view in a web app? I am using Hosted Services in an Enterprise Portal (10.7.1) An added cherry would be to have the ability to add related records from this view. Many thanks

Hi Philip, Thanks for the guidance. After a lot of fiddling I found that it is the order that matters. In the original form creation you have to specify a repeat count Which adds it to the schema of the feature: This is added as a permanent field in the FC. Then when you create another form based on this FC you have to delete the repeat_1_count field before you can add repeat counts. This: (Sorry I put the repeat_count on the wrong line in this screen capture, it should be on the actual repeat) Produces this error in the dependent form: But when you delete those two fields: It works: As you suggested, each time you add a value in the "repeat_count" column it creates the ${field_name}_count. In a dependent form if you haven't created the fields already (in the master form) it will create them and you will get the error that it is incompatible with the URL because you have added fields. If in the master form you did create them they will pass into the dependent form and adding a value to "repeat_count " will try to create them again, giving the error that there are duplicate fields. If you create the ${field_name}_count fields in the master and delete them from the "survey" tab in the dependent form then it adds up and you don't get the errors. In my case using a calculation didn't prevent Survey123 from creating the ${field_name}_count, so doing it in this order is the only thing that worked. Thanks again, I appreciate your guidance.

Hi Philip, Thanks for the speedy response. I am using Survey123 3.6 with Enterprise Portal 10.7.1 I can see an attach option but the xlsx is basically this: This has a nested repeat but I get the same results with a single repeat. If I publish this survey, with a integer repeat count, it adds the try_count field to the schema and becomes a permanent field in the database. I then create a new form based on the FC created by this previous form. If I try to set a repeat count limit I get this error: If I don't set a repeat count limit in the original form then when I try to add one in the child form I get this error: If I create a new field with a calculation I get the same error. The problem started in Survey123 3.3 and so I updated to 3.6 to see if it solved the problem but the error persists. Thank you for your help.

Hi Philip, I am running Survey123 3.6 and am encountering this same problem. The solutions you suggest do not work in my case. There has to be something else going on because I have several forms that have no problem with relate counts but even my test forms have run into the error. Any advances on this recently? Thanks

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I have been able to incorporate many of them and have a workflow that seems to work in the field, although with some limitations. An outline for future readers: 1. I have a feature class that is the authoritative position of the trap. (they can use either Collector or Survey123, although they prefer Survey123 because I have added custom controls) 2. I created an intuitive reference map in Explorer that the field techs can use to find the traps if needed, based on the authoritative FC. 3. There is a URL in the feature that references a Survey123 form and passes some of the trap data over. 4. They then use that form for each collection event which creates a new feature. a. They can go directly to this form and scan the QR code to enter the trap information without having to use Explore or collector if they already know where the trap i s. 5. I use a processioning tool that checks proximity to the authoritative trap and saves it to a related database. 5. In the lab they use a "Lab" Survey123 form the uses the Inbox to access the features that have been collected and use the essential repeats. 6. I also have a CSV referencing the authoritative traps if the trap is lost or the QR code doesn't work. One thing that would make it easier in the future would be to be able to access specific repeats using the inbox (an idea for the ESRI team). Thank you all for your advice, it was invaluable.

Hi, I was hoping to get some input form the community on the best way to accomplish the following workflow. 1) A field tech sets an insect trap in someones yard. They collect location info as well as a description of where the trap is located and a few images of the trap and its location. 2) A week later a field tech (maybe someone different) goes to collect the trap using the description and images to find where the trap has been placed (They are sometimes difficult to see). 3) The field tech re-sets the trap in the same location (hopefully keeping the same description and images available for the next time the trap needs to be collected as well as any additional comments or images) 4) The trap is taken back to the lab and the contents are identified and counted. What I have now is as follows: A) At the top level a feature item recording the point location and images. B) A repeat (related table) that records each trap instance (date set, date collected, etc) C) A repeat (related table) attached to the trap instance (two levels down from the feature item) which records the number of each species found (one repeat(related record) for each species). I use the inbox feature for the field techs to see what needs to be collected as well as which collected traps need to be counted. Three forms: One to collect the original features, one for trap instances, one for lab counts. The problem: Survey123 doesn't support showing images on surveys accessed through the inbox, so the field tech can't use them as a reference, which makes it difficult for them to find the traps. If they use Collector to find the features they will be able to see the images but they can't use the repeat to enter trap instance information in Collector. I can use URL links to open a form from within collector but then it is not related to the feature. Is there a way for the tech to see reference images from within Survey123? Is there a way to start a related record from Collector? Is there a way to use a QR code (printed on the trap) to pull of the correct feature record as a survey? Is there another solution I am not thinking of? Many thanks

Hello, I would like to use an SQL Enterprise Geo database registered with the Enterpise Server as the data source behind a Survey123 form. When I try to do this I get an error message that my database needs a non-nullable unique identifier in order to be used with Survey123. How do I set up my database to include this? I created a GUID field in my feature but I guess it has to be something more than that. Any guidance would be much appreciated.
