Hi Davide, I think I should recompile the tool under windows server 2012 R2 but I have not this OS at home. Sorry ... Otherwise I modified the tool “Get layer ID for all layers in mxd” to managed group layer and multiple data frame on tool “Get layer ID for all layers in mxd”. See gp result message : Working on mxd E:\01_client\layerIDS.mxd Dataframe: Layers01 LayerName | LayerID prefecture | 10 departements | 33 New Group Layer | 35 dep1 | 36 Sub Group Layer | 39 dep3 | 36 dep4 | 37 dep2 | 37 Dataframe: Layers02 LayerName | LayerID prefecture | 2 departements | 1 New Group Layer | 0 dep1 | 5 dep2 | 6 Fred

Hi Davide, Do you execute the install on Windows 7 64-bit? Could you run as adminitrator the install.bat? So I have updated the tool. He splits it in 2 tools: Get layer ID by layer (Add the ability to get layer ID for a specific layer. You can manipulate the output value in a python script for example) Get layer ID for all layers in mxd Fred

Hi, First check if your layer is a group layer and after check if this name match with your search name. See code below: import arcpy,os,sys
import arcpy.mapping
from arcpy import env
env.workspace = r"D:\PROJECTS\atar_ashpa_depo\gis"
for mxdname in arcpy.ListFiles("*.mxd"):
print mxdname # print list of mxd's in the folder
mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(r"D:\PROJECTS\atar_ashpa_depo\gis\\" + mxdname)
dfList = arcpy.mapping.ListDataFrames(mxd, "*")
for df in dfList:
for lyr in arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd, "", df):
if lyr.isGroupLayer:
if lyr.name == "segment-BL.dwg Group Layer":
arcpy.mapping.RemoveLayer(df, lyr)
print 'RemoveLayer 3'
mxd.save()
del mxd Have fun, Fred

Hi Olivier, To calculate the number of vertices composing a line, you can use calculate fields using logic with Python. See sample below:
Parser:
Python
Expression:
getNumberOfVertices( !Shape!)
Code Block:
def getNumberOfVertices(feature):
partnum = 0
vertices = []
while partnum < feature.partCount:
part = feature.getPart(partnum)
pnt = part.next()
pntcount = 0
while pnt:
vertices.append(pntcount)
pnt = part.next()
pntcount+=1
partnum+=1
return len(vertices)
or load getNumberOfVertices.cal in joined file. Have a good day, Best regards, Fred

Hi Koen, If your problem is to update your legend maybe try to create an object Legend like this : legend = arcpy.mapping.ListLayoutElements(mxd, "LEGEND_ELEMENT", "Legend") [0] And now you can force to refresh your legend using : legend.adjustColumnCount(1)
Hope this help you, Best regards, Fred
