I am not really that familiar with ArcObject stuff....so won't be able to answer that question...someone else may chip in here.. However, you can have a quick chat with Esri Tech Support and check what they suggest...

There is a simple Esri addin to remove these COM Components. I am not sure if there is a public link to download that. You can contact Esri Tech Support, and they should be able to point you to that. I am not sure which script you are referring to, so not sure about the licensing for that.

As a workaround: 1. On the machine from where you are exporting that XML, create a new Temporary File geodatabase 2. Import the XML inside that File gdb Now you have two options: 1. ZIP the File gdb itself and copy it to the desired machine. Here remove the COM component and then use the data, OR 2. Remove the COM component on the first machine itself from the data in the File gdb, then create a new XML file and proceed with your workflow.

Yes, SDE Workgroup will only work with SQL Server Express edition. No, you can have a separate Database Server and ArcGIS Server. Having both on same server is not necessary.

If that is the Case.....simply create a Table named "city_2" using SQL Server Management Studio and then use ArcCatalog to delete that. This should remove the orphaned records. I'll suggest not trying to delete the Orphaned objects from the database on your own. Rather call Esri Tech Support and let them guide you through the process to avoid any issues.

Yes, you can go for SQL Server Standard or Enterprise edition, which do not have this space limit. For an approximate idea, related to which Table is consuming space in the database, you can check if the below links help (I am not sure how accurate these are, so you'll have to test and check which one works best): sql server - Get size of all tables in database - Stack Overflow How can you tell what Tables are taking up the most space in a SQL Server 2005 Database? - Stack Overflow

The below link should help: Reconcile Versions—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop Determines which versions will be reconciled when the tool is executed. ALL_VERSIONS —Reconciles edit versions with the target version. This is the default. BLOCKING_VERSIONS —Reconciles versions that are blocking the target version from compressing. This option uses the recommended reconcile order.

Just in case it helps others...the need for the Processadmin server role is mentioned in the link below: Manage connections in SQL Server—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop Ben As you have already realized, the 'processadmin' server role helps you to manage connections. So if you don't need to do that, you are fine without it. However, you mentioned that majority of your work is as Data Owner, so the other 4 Permissions ("CREATE FUNCTION", "CREATE PROCEDURE", "CREATE TABLE", and "CREATE VIEW" permissions) are required. Not to manage existing data, but to load\create new data in future if needed.

Which version of ArcGIS are you working with? Have you created any geodatabase as well on this Instance of SQL Server Express? In case you have not created any geodatabase on that geodatabase yet, just re-run the setup for ArcSDE Workgroup and enable the instance with the Workgroup license. That should be all. In case you have already created a geodatabase on that instance, you will need to Detach and then Attach that geodatabase using the ArcCatalog interface, to update its license with the workgroup one. SQL Server 2008 R2 is quite old now and support for it has been deprecated in recent versions. So in case you are starting fresh, consider using a higher version of SQL Server Express.

You will need to create a new Cross Database View in 'Test1' which will display the required data from Tables in Test1 and also join it to the required data pulled from the other database GIS1. This view can be Spatial or Non-spatial, depends on what you need. So now that you have created the new View, you can register this. The View will get registered in the Geodatabase where it was created, in this case Test1. NOTE: Create the Cross Database View from SQl Server end and make sure first that the data that you need is correctly showing up.

If the Data that you need to join are in separate Databases, you can check Cross-Database Views. That should be dynamic. However check links and test it for efficiency and performance before implementing. arcsde - Create spatial view that references multiple databases - Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange

Randy Can you please post this as a separate Question. Also post a bit more info, like: 1. Did you "Register with Geodatabase' that View 2. Which ArcGIS Desktop version did you use to copy the View 3. Does Copy\Paste, Import\Export...all show the same result? 4. The configuration details that you have (SQL Server version, gdb version, etc) This should help others to test and share their observations as well.

Well, after reading Jonathan's reply, I re-read the question and looks like you were not asking for a way to list the active connections to an Enterprise geodatabase. Rather the GIS connections on a particular machine. That was a hurried response on my part. If I understand correctly, looping through the contents of the folder will just give the name. Or it can list the properties as well through some functions?
