Rudy, Could you send me a URL that when I paste it into a browser I see the REST endpoint? Something like: https://azgeo.az.gov/arcgis/rest/services If you can’t see it in a browser, ArcGIS for AutoCAD won’t see it either. If it is secured, I should also be able to login to the web page with credentials… and also with ArcGIS for AutoCAD. -Don

I was not able to access the REST endpoints for any of these services. Were you able to see them in a browser? Perhaps double check the syntax? Error: Services Directory has been disabled. Error: Services Directory has been disabled. Code: 403

ArcGIS for AutoCAD 370 will only access enterprise servers that are NOT federated with Portal, this also excludes what we would call hosted services. The road map for ArcGIS for AutoCAD will include an update to the installer of ArcGIS for AutoCAD 375 to include AutoCAD 2019 versions this summer (2018), which does work now but you have to load ArcGIS for AutoCAD separately and then NETLOAD the ArcGISforAutoCAD.dll in AutoCAD 2019 to invoke it. After that will be adding support for connecting to enterprise services federated with portal (target late 2018) and then likely the release after that hosted services (2019). The URL for a Portal federated enterprise servers is different than that of a non-federated URL for the same services. For now to access the enterprise services you need to make them available to ArcGIS for AutoCAD users as non-federated services. *(date projections/functionality subject to change)

Steve, Certainly. That would be an excellent use. You would supply an autolisp statement or AutoLISP function that would use the Entity value supplied by the function to grab the text value and modify it with some form of entity modification… You’re function or statement would likely include the (entmod) autolisp routine where you grabbed the current value and did your text concatenation. From the included help document you will see: … An AutoLISP global variable called ESRI_CALC_ENT is populated with the entity name of the current feature being processed. Your AutoLISP expression can take advantage of this fact to perform complex actions with knowledge of the current entity, such as modifying its geometry or accessing its graphic properties. -Don

Alessandro, The best way to attribute AutoCAD objects that ArcGIS will be able to use is with the free plugin to AutoCAD, ArcGIS for AutoCAD to build attributed GIS dataset. This is one of the primary standard capabilities of this free product. The form of data that is used is an Esri-designed implementation of XRECORDS and DICTIONARY's within the AutoCAD DWG file that Esri reads and writes. We called it MSC (Mapping Specification for CAD). The ArcGIS Desktop tool EXPORT TO CAD and the ArcGIS for AutoCAD plug-in READ and WRITE this style of data to provide a file-based exchange of ArcGIS data using the .DWG file alone.

Correct. The value is not related to the handle or entity name. It is used for internal lists and processing for ArcGIS for AutoCAD only, arguably not much value other than to distinguish one entity from another in the table.

Kevin, Correct, ArcGIS for AutoCAD 365 still does not address the identity of the user for portal federated services. The portal will be used to validate the credentials of the user and you can see services shared with everyone in the org, but ArcGIS for AutoCAD will not understand the idea of "My Content" or "Groups" until the next release, likely named ArcGIS for AutoCAD 375. Support for hosted services will not be available until the release after that one, likely named ArcGIS for AutoCAD 400.

The documentation is in error. ArcGIS desktop does not yet support the reading of SOLID entities in from AutoCAD (unfortunate error.) The data interoperability extension does support SOLID entities as others have pointed out. The XDATA you are referring to is more likely Object data or Custom 3D Properties, rather than formal XDATA. AutoCAD has multiple ways to add descriptive data to entities. This might include XDATA, XRECORDS, DICTIONARY OBJECTS, OBJECT DATA and Custom Object Properties. I suspect what you are looking for are likely the Custom Object Properties that ArcGIS Desktop does not currently support. Support for SOLID entities is something we hope to add very soon to ArcGIS desktop. What are the properties/attributes you are looking to get on these SOLID entities? As mentioned by Bruce, the data interoperability extension has its own support for AutoCAD entities and might give you access to some of these properties through various implementations of the Workbench tools. As mentioned above for adding attributes yourself to AutoCAD entities (SOLIDS not supported yet), ArcGIS for AutoCAD is the best way to do this. By the way, Support for AutoCAD 3D MESH objects were just added in ArcGIS Pro 2.0.

Filtering of a feature service is most meaningful/useful, I think, when editing. I am thinking you can always access features from a feature service “read-only” when you connect to it or when getting a copy with the EXTRACT capability and delete out things you don’t want to see using the select by attributes tools as a work around. I hear you it would be nice to do this filtering from the start and then also be able to edit them. Warning: you wouldn’t want to just delete out features in a feature service for “editing” because if that drawing is ever SYNCHRONIZED it would delete those feature from the database.

I hear you, and others have also asked for similar functionality. How would you want it to work in your specific workflow? What should you be allowed to do and how should the software behave to best suit your needs?

Filtering the feature service works on geographic extent. When you add the service you can filter by an area, your current view etc. You can also modify the geographic extent after adding a feature service using the Set Geographic Extent button on the feature tab of the ribbon. You cannot filter by attribute at this time. Clever use of subtypes or definition queries in your published maps can help you with data that needs to be “always” filtered in a certain way. If you use a definition query in your ArcMap layer and then publish that layer you will only be serving out data that conforms to that definition query. You have to be careful because adding data to that feature service may have attributes that don’t fit that query definition. They will be added to the underlying geodatabase but would be filtered out when feature’s are supplied back to the drawing. This is the same type of experience you see when you draw features outside the spatial limits of a feature service. You an add the feature but when you refresh the drawing only the features within the spatial limits will be returned to you, because that is what you asked for.

You should be able to access secure services on enterprise servers federated with portal, but only when the item is shared with “everyone” in the org. The item will be “secured” with the portal authentication, but ArcGIS for AutoCAD 355 doesn’t yet understand how to navigate the “named” user. So even though you use “your” login for portal with ArcGIS for AutoCAD you will only see those items shared with “everyone” in the organization. This is obviously less than ideal. Better support for Portal federated servers and named users will be coming in future releases.

Yes the current release ArcGIS for AutoCAD 350 does work with AutoCAD 2017 and 2016. However the desktop launcher and the install routine don't recognize the newer versions of AutoCAD. You would have to copy the files from a successful installation of ArcGIS for AutoCAD 350 and NETLOAD the ArcGISforAutoCAD.dll or automate loading using some other technique rather than the desktop .EXE launcher. The next release ArcGIS for AutoCAD 355 will be available very soon.

Sometimes your title block will be drawn in a "paper space" view in AutoCAD. ArcGIS desktop will only read the entities within AutoCAD "Model Space". You could copy the entities from Paper Space into the model space...in a new or existing drawing that has the title block, then ArcGIS desktop will see the title block in the place where the title block entities were copied as "GIS" features.
