so may have just been gremilns or resource issue, not sure but we have not experienced the issue since and our scripts have been run multiple times for testing. we did adjust our scripts for just letting us know if this happens, to actually throwing an exception. thanks again for all the input and thoughts, it has been greatly appreciated! All, i was wondering if anyone has run into the issue of stacked address and the best way to label them to make it visually intuitive as to which addresses actually exist in the stack? i would assume in most cases this would be an issue mainly with apartments: same main number but different units based on which floor or all different main numbers based on which floor or which buidling. in some cases i have upwards of 25 stacked points and scratching my head how to best label the addresses. thanks Dave

I guess im a little unclear what would cause the input json object to be an error? this error was thrown on the first attempt and failed to restart one of our map services and a few minutes later the script was rerun and ran successfully and the service was restarted. dave

well this is a new one.... Error: JSON object returns an error. Error returned when starting service ServiceName.MapServer. we have been running update scripts via python not for over a year without any issue, now all of a sudden were seeing this "timeout" error when trying to restart a service after it was successfully stopped and updated. ArcGIS for Desktop: 10.2.2 ArcGIS for Server: 10.2.2 anyone else run into such an error? thanks Dave

so im wondering if the load balancer is the caching the arcSOCs somehow and then not releasing all the arcSOCs when we go to kill them. is anyone else who is using a load balancer seeing this at all? dave

UPDATE: so it seems that Load Balancer is playing a role in the creation of Zombie arcSOCs... Environment A: 1) no load balancer 2) no zombie arcSOCs Environment B: 1) load balancer in place 2) zombie arcSOCs present we noticed that we had our min/max instances both set to 2. we changed that to a min of 2 and max of 3 and that seems to have solved the issue of zombie arcSOCs..... for now! All, i have noticed the following issue: service A min instances = 1 max instances = 1 service B min instances = 1 max instances = 1 i have noticed that more than 1 instance is starting up when i restart the services on the machine, sometimes up to 3 instances even though i have set the max to 1. i find that waiting up to 5min the extra instances go away, not sure why they are started up in the first place though! has anyone else seen this issue? All, i just wanted to provide an update on this situation... 1) we instituted some automated testing in our environment a) 1000s, if not 10000s calls to services We found something VERY interesting happening, and maybe others have seen this: both tests were run within the same time frame, same environment, to the same server instance: Test 1 - VM - showed a 3sec latency on a return of custom fields from a service (95% of calls experienced latency) Test 2 - Physical Machine - showed no latency at all on return of custom fields (0% of calls experienced latency) has anyone else seen this? where a VM somehow causes a latency factor or at least seems to be the culprit. thats where we are for now. dave

All, was just curious if anyone else has run into the problem of labeling stacked points? in my case in address points of an apartment complex are stacked on one another and i was sure if there was a way to cleanly label all the main address numbers? We are currently using 10.2.2. thanks dave

no basemap, the mxd had already been published to one server instance(machine A) and I'm now trying to publish to another instance(Machine B) I have all the data in place on both machines, data shares set up, data stores set up... here is a screenshot of the log, it keeps pointing back at imagery layers as invalid, maybe this will help(see attachment) dave

Running 10.2.2 i have have been publishing services all day to Server Machine A and then from Machine A to Server Machine B. No all of a sudden i get that dreaded ERROR 001639..."Packaging succeeded, but publishing failed. ERROR 001369: Failed to create the service." i did look at the logs for the publishing tools and noticed that it threw out and error for all the layers associated with Imagery as "invalid" im not sure sure what is meant by invalid. dave
