Hi Colin Yes our GIS officer has now raised with Support. With respect to your questions: layer published to ArcGIS on-line from desktop - ArcMap 10.6.1 in the publishing process the options edit, update and delete were ticked on - as per normal then in the settings for the published ArcGIS on-line feature layer I ticked on ‘keep track of who created and last updated features’ then in ArcGIS on-line if you view the table for the feature layer it drops into edit mode (never use to do this) - and that is what leads to ArcGIS on-line changing the user name who created a polygon to the user viewing it only. All for now SteveT ACT Parks & EPSDD

Yes I will ask our GIS officer to report the bug asap. I have found esri very slow to deal with bugs like this unless you can get the message directly to an esri developer - someone like Derek Law or Colin Lawrence - so I have tagged them into this message.

I have found a bug in ArcGIS On-line. In settings on the feature layer, if you select ‘Keep track of who created and last updated features’ – then a newly created polygon will initially, correctly, give the user name of the person/use account who did the mapping. But as soon as I view the polygon (logged in with my publisher account) – it says that I created the polygon, even if I have not edited it or updated it. So all the polygons end up saying that the publisher account created them. I have just un-ticked that option for now. But it would be good to have it working again.

Some of our Rangers are getting an untrusted host error message (see attached). And if you select trust it just throws up the error message again. You can flick the app out and on most occasions it opens again and works fine. Running Android 10 with latest updates on a Samsung S20+ and latest Collector for ArcGIS 20.2.1 Build 2956. Any ideas what is going on?

Thanks Colin - any idea when the fixes will occur. As it leaves Android version 10 users stuck at the moment not being able to stream polygons.

Hi Colin - this has been identified as a bug. See below: "Esri Case #02539413 - Collector Beta (Android): location instability Hello Steve, Esri has let me know that the issue has been identified as BUG-000130104: The GPS accuracy for the newest Collector for ArcGIS on an Android device is not as accurate as Collector Classic on the same device."

Hello Colin, try testing it in airplane mode - so it is forced to use the GPS only. Then run both versions side by side and you will see the difference in location stability. This is important because if you are streaming a polygon having the location move around from 4m to 20m interrupts the streaming and/or creates unreliable polygons. Collector Classic only varies between 4 and 6m while creating reliable polygons (4m in grassland areas and 6m in forest). As explained above Collector for ArcGIS seems to include suspicious fixes making streaming unreliable. The same issue happens on the S9 and S10 phones as well as the S20. Hence why our staff and contractors with Android phones are sticking with Collector Classic for now. Out of interest this problem does not occur on the Apple version of Collector for ArcGIS - maybe that is a clue to what is going on. Also as I mentioned the problem does not occur on the Avenza app because it ignores suspicious GPS fixes, giving a stable location range allowing tracking (streaming) to occur without errors or interruptions.

I am testing the new version of Collector - Collector for ArcGIS on a Samsung S20+, running side by side with Collector Classic. There appears to be a problem with the way Collector for ArcGIS interacts with the location services - both in the on-line (GPS and mobile data) and off-line modes (GPS only). Running the two apps side by side leads to very different location stability. Collector Classic gets a stable accurate fix quickly - allowing for trouble free streaming of polygons. Whereas Collector for ArcGIS has such an unstable location fix that streaming a polygon can be problematic at times. It seems that Collector for ArcGIS does not ignore suspicious location fixes, whereas Collector Classic ignores such suspicious fixes. Or is it something more fundamental in the way Collector for ArcGIS interacts with location services. Either way it is a problem that needs testing and investigating. Out of interest the other mapping app we use a lot in ACT Parks and Conservation Service, is the Avenza app. It has an option of ignoring suspicious location fixes. Maybe this is what the new Collector for ArcGIS needs to fix the issue.

Yes working again at 10:30am. AEST. It was not working since Saturday. A better approach for esri would be if one of the techs had an on-device or off-line Collector map set up with scheduled syncing every 15 minutes (available on Collector Aurora on Apple) - so they could pick up these sync issues and quickly remedy them before disrupting customer work flows.

Syncing again now. There needs to be better monitoring of Collector app sync issues by esri and quicker resolution of problems.

There was nothing wrong with our hosted feature service. This was an issue with esri’s services1. Syncing has now started working again. The problem started on Saturday.
