Tracy, The current resource center for the ArcGIS API v3.0 for Silverlight is available here: http://resourcesbeta.arcgis.com/en/webapis/silverlight-api/community/index.html. The current download version is 3.0 prerelease, with 3.0 final coming in June. Prerelease only targets Silverlight 5. The interactive SDK available on this site targets Silverlight 5. As Dominique stated, the issues you reported are only present when using the Silverlight 4 runtime. Since the problem is outside the ArcGIS API (Silverlight 4, IE & FF browsers), we are unable to fix it. With this in mind, you have the option of targeting Silverlight 5 with v3.0 pre-release or updating your browser to IE9 (although this issue is not resolved in the latest FF browser - 12.0). Hope this helps, -Rex

Thanks for reporting this. The link will be fixed shortly. In the meantime, you can get to the sample page with the correct link here: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/wpf/help/index.html#/Interactive_SDK_samples/01n70000001m000000/

Are you hardcoding the culture in the Silverlight application before deploying to the web server or trying to discover the users culture and set at runtime? Side note, the ArcGIS API does not include localized resources for Tamil (ta). Also, have you changed any globalization settings in IIS? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725971(WS.10).aspx

matthewb- The installer is looking for the Silverlight tools for Visual Studio 2010 to be installed. Since it's not required for VS2010 sp1, the templates are not showing up in the install. We should have this resolved in 2.2. In the meantime you can get the standard and showcase template online here: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/samples/TemplateGalleryWeb/start.htm

Thanks for the additional info. The cross domain files you attached will only impact services on a site on which they are present. For example, when accessing sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com, the clientaccesspolicy.xml here: http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/clientaccesspolicy.xml If you have placed the cross domain files you attached on a web server hosting your ArcGIS Server services, I would encourage you to start with a copy of those hosted on ArcGIS Online servers (they are wide open) to make sure you can access services, then begin the process of restricting if needed. In any case, if you're trying to load a map service on sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com and it's not working (as in your initial post) that's not likely related to a cross domain file. Can you install Fiddler and trace the requests\responses between your client and sampleserver1 (the Dynamic map sample in the interactive SDK)? You can install Fiddler from here: http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/version.asp Let me know if you see any errors with requests to sampleserver1.

The error message you're seeing appears anytime there is a problem communicating with a remote server (it mentions the most common reason, missing a clientaccesspolicy.xml or crossdomain.xml). If you're trying to hit an ArcGIS online server or server hosted by Esri, this shouldn't be a problem. There may be an issue retrieving service metadata or an image remotely due to client restrictions, as you mention. Before we start diving into that, try the following code in a page and see if you encounter a problem. You should see a 300x300 pixel map image in the middle of the app: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Blue"> <Image x:Name="MyImage" Width="300" Height="300" Source="http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Specialty/ESRI_StateCityHighway_USA/MapServer/export?bbox=-183%2C9%2C-61%2C80&bboxSR=4326&size=300%2C300&format=png24&f=image" /> </Grid>

This is more a question for Microsoft than Esri. As long as Microsoft supports the tools that are used to develop and use Silverlight applications on Windows XP, Esri will continue to support Silverlight in the same capacity. You can view the latest system requirements for ArcGIS Silverlight developers and clients here: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/help/index.html#/System_requirements/01660000000t000000/ That said, if you have the opportunity to move to Windows 7 now, I recommend making the move.

SR- It's not clear from your description of the problem that this is related to the ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight or WPF. Can you provide additional details on how the API is being used in a way that impacts this scenario? You may want to try the ArcSDE and geodatabase forum for issues dealing with transactions and databases: http://forums.arcgis.com/forums/32-Geodatabase-amp-ArcSDE

The proxy page included with the Silverlight API is a streamlined/enhanced version of the one included with the JavaScript API. Basically generating the request and processing the response have been streamlined for the Web APIs. Plus the proxy included with the Silverlight API supports secured services using tokens (long and short term) and http/windows authentication. The JavaScript API proxy only supports long term tokens. 1) Yes. As far as redirecting requests is concerned, the proxies are basically the same. 2) The Silverlight API proxy sets the content type of the request (if a POST) to "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" because its only been designed to support the use of a proxy (e.g. ProxyUrl) within the Web APIs. Since POSTed requests from the Web API to the proxy always contain text, this content type will work. However if you wanted to use the proxy to upload a file, you'd probably want to go with multipart/form-data. Of course you can try to set it on the fly like in the JavaScript API. Keep in mind you can modify the proxy at will; it only provides a workable starting point to support the use of a proxy in the Web APIs. Ideally at some point in the future the proxies will be synchronized.

Unfortunately the source code for the Template Gallery is not available at this time. We'll consider providing this in the future. In the meantime you may want to take a look at some cover flow implementations in Silverlight (e.g. http://silverlightcoverflow.codeplex.com/).

Ben - Less than one quarter of the samples in the current Interactive Silverlight SDK operate in the WGS84 spatial reference. While map content in WGS84 tiled services on ArcGIS Online is not being updated, and some are being retired, the functionality demonstrated in the Silverlight samples remains valid. In fact, in some cases working in geographic coordinates has provided a more cognitive example for understanding functionality (e.g. manually creating graphics). That said, we are and have been updating samples periodically to reference basemap layers in Web Mercator. This will continue where appropriate. The Address Matching samples you mention in this post have been updated to use a Web Mercator basemap. Unfortunately the locators hosted by ArcGIS Online are still operating on ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 servers, so the simplest solution is not yet available when using them (merely setting the output spatial reference for the locator task). Hope this helps.

Unfortunately there is not a video for Silverlight or JavaScript specifically, but the steps for setting up a ??data extraction? service are the same regardless of the client API. We host a sample data extraction service (actually a GP and Map service) here: http://sampleserver4.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/HomelandSecurity. We'll consider adding a sample that uses this service to the interactive SDK. In the meantime, we do host a similar sample here: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/samples/start.htm#ClipFeatures. You should be able to gleen what is necessary for consuming an async data extraction GP service from that sample. The data for this sample is included with the ArcGIS .NET SDK under: <ArcGIS Developer Kit install directory>/Samples/data/GP/RunClip/USA_data_ClipTools and <ArcGIS Developer Kit install directory>/Samples/data/USA/ -Rex
