This may be a crude solution, but whenever I have to do something like this, I create a variable called counter and set it equal to 0. For the identify function, I check to see if counter = 0 before it does anything else. When the user clicks a button to begin editing, the edit function immediately sets counter = 1, so whenever the user clicks on a feature, though the identify function is still called, it doesn't actually do anything since it fails the if statement. When the edits are finished, I set counter equal to zero again so they can resume identifying features.

Ah, such a simple solution - adding the named graphics layer before the feature layer worked. Thanks!

I'm using a graphics layer to create a highlight symbol for when a user clicks on a point feature layer. I have some events that listen for double-clicks or mouse hovers on the feature layer, but once a user clicks it and the highlight symbol is added, the events no longer work as the feature layer is covered by the graphic layer. I could re-work the events to listen for double-clicks on the graphic layer, but I'd rather not do that. I found a post on stackexchange.com that shows how to use the graphic.getDojoShape().moveToBack() method, but it appears it only adds the new graphics under existing graphics, and not feature layers. Is it possible to do what I'm attempting, or will graphic layers always be added on top of feature layers?

Thank you so much! Such a simple problem but I was having a real hard time pinpointing the source. Thank you again.

A couple of months ago my organization launched a map I put together, which can be found here: http://gisapps.dnr.state.md.us/Aquaculture/index.html The map worked fine at the time of launch, and I didn't think anything more of it until the other day when I went to check it out again, and Firebug immediately started kicking up errors (see attachment). The map still appears to be entirely functional with one exception: users are supposed to be able to click a feature and get an info window to popup - this no longer works. Instead, Firebug kicks out more of the same errors. I tried commenting out the part of the code that has the identify task and I'm still getting those errors when the map loads. I also tried commenting other functionality one at a time and the errors persist. I'm really not a programmer, so these errors are gibberish to me. Would anybody be able to take a look at the code and help me establish where the problem is?

I'm working on a web map that's going to have point features with nearly fifty fields in their attribute table, and I'd like to allow the user to click on a feature and get all of those fields. Due to the number of fields, I'd rather avoid using a popup; I'd instead prefer to load the data into a separate div. I can set up the div fine, but I'm not sure how to go about getting the data to load into it. Is there a way to go about doing this using esri.dijit.InfoWindow, or am I going to have to use an entirely different method?

It's not a lot of code (only 279 lines including whitespace) but I don't know how much understanding of what it's doing you have, do you understand about HTTP request/response mechanisms and are you using the token functionality etc? You could have a go, either try to do it line by line or perhaps break it down into functional components e.g. the simplest thing it does is to take the querystring portion of the URI it's received in the request, execute a request using the value then return that response in the response to the originating client. < If none of this makes sense then perhaps that's your answer? Indeed it does! I really wish I knew in school how much non-GIS stuff a GIS guy has to do and took some more appropriate courses - at least then I'd understand what I don't understand! The comment you made about ArcGIS Server needing .NET 2.0 helped a lot though - we definitely have a box for v10, so it sounds like I should be able to get the proxy page hosted on that and avoid the issue altogether. I really appreciate your help on this!

Yeah...I have no idea why they won't upgrade (the IT guy said it would "break stuff"...downside of working for a very large organization, they're very slow to get anything going!). Unfortunately, they don't let me touch any of the ArcGIS Server stuff, so I don't even know where/on what it's hosted. They have a separate group work on all that stuff, so I'm pretty clueless about it. How would one go about re-writing the proxy page to make it work for 1.0? I'm really not a programmer at all - I've only been here a few months and my messing around with JavaScript is my first foray into any kind of programming - would it be reasonable for a newbie like me to do?

After weeks of working on a map and testing it locally under the impression that uploading the proxy page to our organization's servers would be no problem, I found out yesterday that we only have version 1.0 of ASP.net, and we won't be upgrading anytime soon. I also found out that we can't host the Java/PHP versions of the proxy page, so I'm resigning myself to the fact that I won't be able to create any maps with functionality dependent on the proxy page. Before I finally give up, does anybody have any suggestions/workarounds? I really hate to launch a web app missing some of the functionality we desired for it!

Slight thread-highjack, but with this post active I felt this didn't deserve its own topic... I had set up a proxy page on my local machine, and it had been working fine for the past two weeks. I've been working with IT here to try to get the proxy page set up on our servers, and when they were having issues they sent someone down to view the proxy page on my machine to see how I set mine up, and guess what? It no longer works! I have changed absolutely nothing about my proxy page or my IIS settings; .ashx is enabled in handler mappings, mustmatch is set to false, but any time I try to access a URL through the proxy page, I'm getting an error that says "Proxy.config file does not exist at application root, or is not readable." - which is BS, because the proxy.config file is definitely there and nothing about the file or the directory it sits in has been touched. I turned on debugging and you can see the results attached. Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Thanks for all your help with this, John, but I told you it would be something stupid! Turns out the proxy page files I had downloaded were from an older help page (http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisserver/apis/javascript/arcgis/help/jshelp_start.htm#jshelp/ags_proxy.htm); once I downloaded the more up to date proxy page files, everything worked perfectly.

Yes to the first two questions, and no, it doesn't seem to make a difference if I try my machine name or 127.0.0.1. Whew! This is frustrating!

I did, and just to be sure I tried doing so again. One thing I'm noticing this time, when I click Convert to Application and try the "Test Settings" button, I get an error that says "Invalid Application Path", even though the physical path is pointing directly to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\proxy. I apologize if these are dumb questions - I'm really out of my element working with this stuff!

Yep - that's the one I'm using. I tried setting mustMatch to false and I'm still unable to connect to anything. When I try to connect directly to localhost/proxy/proxy.ashx I get the same error page that vikrant327 posted. I tried turning debugging on and it gave me the error message in the attached screenshot. I'm guessing I'm just doing something stupid here!
