Just as a test, what if you use the clip tool to cut out the parcels within the buffer? Does it still exclude those same polygons?

It would be fun to have a competition to see who could write the longest piece of code to simply strip one character off the end of a field!

Oh ok, it's starting to get a little clearer now . Can you just check that your line end points are snapped to each other?

Hi Richard, linear referencing is a set of tools in the ArcGIS toolbox--no special scripts needed!

Is there any reason why you need the round line caps and joins? Do these indentations appear at line breaks, or are they random? Are your line4s snapped to each other, or is it possible that there are tiny gaps between line end points?

Great, thanks! So what does it look like is you just use a 20 point simple line?

It's just that your question is confusing me because you mention dashed lines.

I was looking for a more detailed answer, perhaps a screenshot of the symbology for your line? I would like to know specifically the symbology settings for the screenshot that you posted. Another question, are these digitized as solid lines with no breaks in them?

How are the lines symbolized? Are they simply a heavy point single line, or are they constructed in a more complex way?

That's great Kathleen! Would you mind marking the question as answered in that case? It helps the next person with a similar question find the answer. Thanks!

I don't know, but it's not editable, at least in the metadata. For the edification of all, I did a clip operation on my test file. Results still stop at that last 2014-10-09 process in the resulting feature class. Are you sure you don't have metadata over a year old? The geprocessing history carries forward from the original layers, which incidentally seems like part of the problem. Perhaps the Geoprocessing history can only be so long? You would think, if that was the case, it would delete the older entries first. No one needs a record of all the permission changes that happened to the SDE version over the years.
