I have upgraded our ArcGIS Enterprise twice this year...once for an initial upgrade, and the second time when I was adding ArcGIS Data Store. However, both times now I have lost all of my old configured pop-ups that were associated with features in various web maps, and it will take about a week to redo those (each popup was cleaned up to make it easier for users to read etc.). Is there a way to back up those popup configurations in a similar way one can save symbology in a layer file in ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro? It would be so much easier if all I had to do was spend about an hour restoring all of those pop-ups, not to mention all of the web apps we have for staff to use. Thanks

I have successfully installed, implemented and configured ArcGIS Data Store 10.6.1...everything works exactly as it should in Portal for ArcGIS. I was pleasantly surprised that my entire geodatabase was automatically converted and is now "hosted". This was all done in our sandbox environment...next step is to replicate all of this in production. I have also got the CSV drag and drop option to work (that too was easy) and this will be most useful for our demonstration in November. However, I do have a question (in two parts), and it has to do with file extensions from the popup in Portal. I already have some URL paths in popups that direct users to external web sites from with various layers in Portal...this is very useful. However, we have a requirement to enable users to open PDF/XLSX and JPG attachments as well. I can see that adding the appropriate URL to those files will be required, but herein lies my questions: 1) Where should these files (PDF/XLSX/JPG) reside? On our ArcGIS Data Store server? A shared drive? 2) If these files will reside on the ArcGIS Data Store server, what URL should I use (i.e. how should it appear?)? If these files do reside on our ArcGIS Data Store server, do I just create separate folders for these files on that server's C:\drive (If so I do have a lot of space for these files there)? Our organization is very cautious about using cloud technology so it is important that these files reside locally on one, or more, of our servers. Thanks

Jonathan: OK...mission accomplished. I have (with additional help from ESRI) fully implemented ArcGIS Data Store, and have published my entire geodatabase to Portal as hosted layers. Everything seems to be working as advertised. So far so good. I do have one additional question, but I'm going to post that separately as it shouldn't really be a part of this thread. Thanks again for your help...it definitely got the proverbial ball rolling and it's now completed in the sandbox environment. Today I will start on the upgrade and implementation in the production environment.

Johnathan: Thanks for the pointer...that is probably what I'm doing wrong. I'm still doing things out of sequence it seems. I will work on the Data Store configuration and registration first. I started to do this a week ago but quickly discovered that I was doing this with version 10.6.1, when everything else is 10.6...and I was not permitted to configure until the versions were synced. Now that I have everything upgraded in our isolated sandbox environment I should be able to configure and then register Data Store. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again

I'm in the process of implementing ArcGIS Data Store, and a part of that process involves first designating a hosting server. I have just upgraded everything on our Sandbox to version 10.6.1 (ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Desktop). I am going through the steps on our isolated sandbox server first in case I blow something up. When I get to the window in Portal for ArcGIS (Organization ► Edit Settings ► Servers), the drop-down under "Hosting Server" is empty. However, when I review the same drop-down under Hosting Server in our production environment, an option is available: The Sandbox is supposed to be an exact copy of what is in Production...so how could there be a discrepancy? How do I ensure that there is indeed a Hosting Server option here? From where is Portal retrieving this Hosting Server path? Thanks

Jonathan: Excellent...thank you very much again. You have just confirmed my project for the next couple of days . I'm actually looking forward to this process (it's pretty new to me...but I'm doing this all in an isolated sandbox first before I try it in production just in case I blow things up). I'm glad you clarified the order of operations too...much appreciated. I now have a very clear understanding of what needs to be done, and in what order. Thanks again

Jonathan: Thanks a million for the response and the clarification...this is extremely helpful. I have not yet designated a hosting server, but I'm thinking now that this is probably what I need to do first (so thanks for that pointer and direction as well). The republishing sounds like more work (to reformat all of my existing map and feature services etc.) but the end result sounds much more robust and better, so I will probably go that route for sure. I had better do that now anyway, before I get too far down the proverbial rabbit hole . I currently only have about 8 map/feature services in Portal. I'm assuming that once I have set up the hosting server and have republished then I can configure the Data Store? ArcGIS Data Store has been installed, just not yet configured (the installation process warned me that my Data Store needed to be the same version as ArcGIS Enterprise, so I just finished up grading everything to 10.6.1). Just to be clear, as our ArcGIS Server and Portal are federated, do I republish the Server, or Portal? I'm guessing that if I'm republishing the geodatabase then it's probably Server, but I'm just curious if the federated servers will change the order of operation...or if in fact they have to be federated before I can even start to republish. Thanks again.

I have installed ArcGIS Data Store 10.6.1, and have upgraded ArcGIS Enterprise to 10.6.1. My ArcGIS Desktop is also now 10.6.1, and I'm using ArcGIS Pro 2.2. Our ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS are also federated. It has become apparent though that I now need to change the managed database to an ArcGIS Data Store relational data store (our data is still in an enterprise geodatabase, but it is now publishing directly to Portal). However, there are two paths from which to choose: Changing the existing managed database to a registered database, and Republishing our hosted feature layers If I understand the true meaning of "hosted", as far as I know, nothing on our servers is hosted. All map and feature services that have been published simply reside in Portal. So I have 3 questions: 1) Does it matter if our ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS are federated (is this a concern for configuring Data Store)? 2) If vying for option "b" above, does the data need to be hosted before republishing hosted features? 3) Does the ArcGIS Data Store implementation process create a hosted server?

Derek: Thanks for the feedback. I have federated Server and Portal now and everything works really well. However, now I'm thinking that my original question (about publishing a hosted layer) has to do with not yet installing and configuring the ArcGIS Data Store. This has to be in place anyway for us as there is some key functionality that we require that will need this to be set up first. I'm working on that now.

Dan: Thanks...even though you could not find a solution, I'm finding comfort in the fact that my own research methods are probably not that bad :-). I will use a work-around I guess (i.e. temporarily use a different base map while editing).

I'm currently editing a map using ArcGIS Pro 2.2, but because the base map I'm using is predominantly green in this one area I'm finding it very difficult to see the vertices (because they're also green). Is there a way to change the color if the vertices in ArcGIS Pro? Thanks

Thomas: Solved. You were partly correct...there was an issue with the certificate when using ArcGIS Pro (even though this is not noticeable when using ArcMap). However, only the error message was noticed and it didn't seem to affect anything else. However, it is definitely something that I want to see fixed though as I loathe certificate errors :-). There were two issues that have been rectified: 1) In the IIS Manager for portal the Windows Authentication and Anonymous login were both turned on. This by itself is believed to have confused ArcGIS Pro (it had zero affect on ArcMap though). However, this setting was deliberate because we originally had issues publishing from ArcMap and believe it or not having both turned on fixed this problem (i.e. with IWA turned on I could publish, but not when it was turned off - if Anonymous was turned off users could not log-in). But that publishing error was eventually fixed in ArcCatalog by connecting to Portal as a different administrative user (i.e. me, and not portaladmin). 2) My ArcGIS Pro was acquired a few months ago and I almost had it working for publishing map services, but our ArcGIS Server and Portal were not yet federated. However, there were a lot of changes to our system as we were configuring it for IWA, so when we finally got Portal working properly what I did not realize is that all of the paths to our servers that were initially added to ArcGIS Pro were not yet updated; hence, ArcGIS Pro had no idea where anything was...the paths were all wrong. All of this has been fixed and publishing a map service has been successfully tested using ArcGIS Pro. I'm now good to go. Pretty silly and simple fixes...I had no idea that I forgot to update so much. Good lesson for sure. In any case, thanks for your feedback as it did get me thinking about alternative solutions...including getting that certificate fixed.

Thomas: OK...I will start testing this and bring in our IT team to review the SSL certificate. It sounds like a reasonably simple fix as everything else seems to be working in Pro. Thanks again
