Are there any recommendations for the hardware spec for running ArcGIS Server as the Utility Network Management Extension licence role? I've reviewed the general ArcGIS Server system requirements but there is no mention of utility networks and there doesn't seem to be much talk about this on Geonet. Our thinking was to have a federated ArcGIS Server on a dedicated machine away from the Portal and database elements - I think I recall this being mentioned as good practice on a recent webinar (possibly the Intro to UN for Water Utilities). Thinking in the longer term to a point where we've successfully rolled out two domain networks (water distribution and sewerage) and the UN is being used widely across the business would it make sense to design this element to be a multi-machine server site? I can see how just doubling the number of server machines would be good from a resilience point of view but would there even be a case for having one dedicated server site for dealing with editing and another for dealing with read only views and analytics? Is it even possible to set it up this way so that those functions are separated? Any other UN users out there willing to share what sort of spec they are looking at for production systems? Many thanks Gareth

We're testing v3.2 of the Water Distribution model UN and have got to the stage where we've migrated some data and successfully set up subnetworks for DMAs. We're having a problem with not being able to run the Update Subnetwork tool following what we would think would be a fairly normal edit to the network e.g. adding in a new service connection. According to this help file we would expect the subnetwork that the new feature is added into to have the IsDirty field be flagged as True. https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/data/utility-network/dirty-subnetworks.htm 1. Subnetwork details before editing 2. Added in a couple of new service connections 3. Validated the network topology to clean dirty areas 4. Tried to run the Update Subnetwork tool for that specific subnetwork but it is not listed in the tool dialogue and the IsDirty attribute is still set to False 5. The only way we can seem to get the subnetwork to be recognised as dirty is to swap the terminal connections round on the pipes going into the subnetwork controller, validate topology, swap the terminals back round again to their correct settings and then validate topology again. 6. Run the update subnetwork tool and see updated details on the subnetwork e.g. increase in service connections and total length and last updated date. So my question is whether we are doing something wrong or missing something in the rules/configuration that is leaving the subnetwork unaware of the changes? Or have we interpreted the guidance incorrectly and the type of edit that we are doing shouldn't trigger changes to the subnetwork (I really hope this isn't the case)? We are working with the water foundation model pretty much as it is with one minor change to the rules to use a different asset type for the service connection count statistic on subnetworks, but I don't think it was working in a previous test version either where we hadn't made that rule change. Feels like it's more of a fundamental issue/bug somewhere? Pro is version 2.4.2 and ArcGIS Enterprise is 10.7.1. Thanks in advance for any assistance that can be provided. Gareth

Hi Joel, Thanks for the very speedy reply. I think this was partly down to the way I was using the data dictionary because I was tending to get in the habit of using the hyperlink in the domain field for the asset type and so it was jumping past the content that you referred to. It's obviously a very large document so sometimes difficult to see the wood for the trees! It would be really handy if the value in the Name or Alias column of the Asset Type row could hyperlink down to the subtype section you mentioned as part of the update but not an essential thing at this stage. Best regards Gareth

We're a UK water and sewerage company who are currently looking at migrating our supply network across to the recently released Water Distribution Foundation v3.2. We're finding that the data dictionary is a really valuable resource for assisting in the process but we're wondering if there are plans to fill in some of the blanks, particularly around the descriptions for the different asset types? In the example below it would be really helpful to get a bit more of a description to help us work out which features map to which.

So having done a bit of testing I think this is down to the deletion of accounts. I just ran two tests: 1. Got a non-Portal user to log in to Explorer app on Android. The Portal auto created them a visitor account and they can see maps in Explorer. I then left the app running in the background and deleted their Portal account. We then went back into the Explorer app and could see the list of maps but when we open one it says "error occurred opening map, invalid token" 2. This is essentially the same test but this time I made sure the app was closed down fully before deleting the account in Portal. This time reopening the app you go straight in (without being prompted to sign in) to the list of maps which is empty and just shows the no maps message originally reported by the user. So this suggests that it is related to us deleting accounts overnight...

Hi Joel, Thanks for the reply. I will see if I can replicate the issue on a test device, though difficult to know how long they leave it in between uses. I think if the user tries to access the Portal in Chrome it would point them at the ADFS gateway and force them to sign in again anyway. Another factor which I forgot to mention is that we regularly run an ArcGIS API for Python script which removes users who are in the most basic custom role - what we call Visitor (Viewer user types/formerly Level 1 with only the ability to view content) in order to keep the Portal lean and mean. It generally isn't a problem because when a user of this role revisits the Portal it automatically recreates an account for them of the same type. The deletion process happens overnight so it is quite possible that the user returning to the unclosed app the following day will no longer have a valid Portal account. So we can also try turning off the deletion script and see whether the same issue occurs if they leave the app open. Will be in touch once we've done some more research. Regards Gareth

We're running ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7.1 and have recently rolled the Explorer out to users, the majority of which are running on the Android platform. Our Portal uses ADFS for security and the apps are deployed via Microsoft Intune. I've had a couple of users reporting that they can successfully log in and use the app but when they come back to it the next day they just get a message saying "No Maps. Maps will appear here when they're created or shared with you." In at least one of the cases the user says that they weren't fully closing the app down after they used it so it was still running in the background. My guess is that a token is expiring but because they aren't launching the app from new each time it isn't prompting it to go and get a new token. I need to do a bit more research with this and ask the users some more questions but just wanted to see if others had experienced the same thing and whether it would be worth opening a support case for this. One possible workaround is to get them to sign out and back in again but that kind of negates some of the benefit of the app remembering credentials and is a slightly fiddly process because of the number of different options they have to choose from e.g. Enterprise vs AGOL, built in account vs organisation etc.

I've had a couple of Explorer users on Android with ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7.1 reporting the same issue with the No Maps message appearing. They can use the app for a few hours or even a whole day but when they go back to it the next day they get that message. My suspicion is that they don't fully close down the app when they've finished with it so it is still running in the background and the token that the app is using to access our Portal is expiring (not sure if it's the Portal token itself or the ADFS gateway token that we use for our security).

Just encountered this with an app in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7.1 which was originally created by doing a save as from a different app (we were on 10.6 at the time the save as took place). The resizing the window suggestion seems to have worked for us so I'm very grateful for that tip!

Following on from my previous reply, I've got two different Portals, both at 10.7.1 and both have default dates set to Great Britain, dd/mm/yyyy, in organisational settings. If I create a blank dashboard, add a date selector and set to date picker, one portal displays it as dd/mm/yyyy and the other displays as mm/dd/yyyy. In both cases I'm logged in as an admin user and viewing within the same browser session in IE11. Unfortunately the one that is showing incorrectly is our production Portal so it's not necessarily fixed in 10.7.1 and there might be another factor involved here. Have checked date/time and regional settings on both servers and they're exactly the same.

I'm just looking at the new Map Styler app in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7.1 and it looks like there might be a bug with the basemaps. I was expecting it to pick up the basemaps that we have configured for our Portal but it looks like it is only getting them from ArcGIS Online. The default basemap is correctly set to use one of our Portal basemaps (as saved in the web map) but the list of other basemaps only contains AGOL ones. Anybody else have the same issue?

We just upgraded to ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7.1 from 10.6 and I inadvertently managed to set up Enterprise Sites by clicking on the icon in the App Launcher. As I understand it this creates a group (which contains lots of warnings about not deleting or modifying) and an app content item, both owned by me. Is it possible to assign this content to a different user or will it be in the future? Seems like a real weakness to have it tied down to an individual user who might not be around for ever. As we've not actually created any Sites content yet, what would be the consequence of deleting both the app and group and then activating Site via the app launcher again with a different Portal administrator account?

Weirdly seems to have now sorted itself out and dashboards seem to open up just fine. Perhaps some sort of browser cache issue?

We've just upgraded from Enterprise 10.6 (where Ops Dashboard was a separate installer) to 10.7.1 and are experiencing the same problem. Can't open or edit any dashboards when accessing our Portal via our web adaptor and externally visible domain name - goes to the URL but just a blank screen, same in IE and Chrome. If I go directly to the server then I can at least get a dashboard to open, the elements load but they don't seem to be able to access the source data. We have got an issue with our ADFS access post upgrade at the moment which we working on resolving so fingers crossed that may also sort out the dashboard access. Will post an update when we know more.
