Hi - I'm just trying to work round this error in my script.... "To test if a Raster has all NoData run the IsNull tool. If the output is all 1 then it only has NoData" How do you test whether the whole raster is 1?

As Neil says you can have many frames on your layout sheet but I believe you can only have one sheet per map document. If you want to do a different map without losing your previous map I reckon you have two options: save your views using bookmarks (not effective if you change layout or data) make a copy of your map document

Thanks guys. Just a note to any other novices reading this - I was testing a concept in Raster Calculator. When I came to write my batch script the notation is different...
myRaster = "blah_blah.tif"
#band notation is a backslash
redband = myRaster + "\Band_1"
greenband = myRaster + "\Band_2"
blueband = myRaster + "\Band_3"
#need to remind it that each input is a raster
outRaster = Con((Raster(redband)==255) & (Raster(greenband)==255) & (Raster(blueband)==255),1,0)
outRaster.save("C:/OutputFolder/" + myRaster)

Is it me or is the Raster Calculator help rather vague? I'm looking at the Conditional oporators and I can't see anywhere that tells me what they do and what syntax they want. Anyway what I'm trying to do is take my 3 band colour tiff and say if the colour is white make the value 1 and make everything else 0 so I've guessed that Con means Conditional and have written this in the raster calculator: Con(("mytif.tif.Band1"==255) & ("mytif.tif.Band2"==255) & ("mytif.tif.Band3"==255), 1, 0) can anyone help?

Thanks Anthony but it doesn't quite give me the results I'm looking for..... your answer tells me whether every fieldname in the list is "CAT" or not so the output is: feature1.shp Nope feature1.shp Nope feature1.shp Yes feature1.shp Nope feature2.shp Nope feature2.shp Nope feature2.shp Nope feature2.shp Nope ........etc What I really want is a single yes or no for each feature. For each feature could I somehow concatenate all the fieldnames into a single string and test that?

Hi I'm trying to do a script that will search a bunch of features and tell me if they contain a certain field name or not:
fcs = arcpy.ListFeatureClasses()
for fc in fcs:
fieldList = arcpy.ListFields(fc)
if "CAT" in fieldList:
print fc + " Yes"
else:
print fc + " Nope"
I think I've figured out that I somehow need to tell it is look for "CAT" as a field name in fieldList but I'm not sure how to write it. I've tried a few things such as:
if "CAT" in fieldList.field.name
but I haven't hit upon the correct syntax. Can you help? (just thought I'd add that everything comes out as "Nope", which isn't correct, using the above code)

Sorry I can't post example data. Here's some more info: The data covers the whole of britain and I have tried running Desify in Brit-Nat-Grid and WGS84 with similar results. In Densify if I set a Distance of 'X' I expect vertices to be added to my line separated by distances as close to X as possible. However I actually get vertices separated by distances much less than X. How does the Densify tool decide on the separation of vertices when a DISTANCE Densification Method is used? - it doesn't seem to offer the control I require. Is this clearer?

Hi Is there a web page where I can look up what is the latest version of CE? Is there somewhere in the online help that says what version it refers to? I've just been looking at the section regarding handles - I'm on v14.0 and it appears that handles aren't supported. So I went to the download page and downloaded a new version but it is still 14.0. What's going on?

I'm using desify to increase the number of vertices in my line feature so I get evenly spaced vetices along each straight line segment. However the densify is not giving me the control I want - it is putting in more points than I require. Example: Simple 2 point line - 1918m long Densify - Distance method - Distance = 600m Result: 6 point line with vertex distance = 384m. Expected result: 5 point line with vertex distance = 479m This is a very simple example but my feature contains hundreds of thousands of km of lines so I'm getting a lot more points than I want. Why is densify making this decision? Is there a tool that offers more control?

Yes I get the message in new/empty scene but obviously, as the message suggests, only with data that covers a large extent.

I get the message "The data extent is to large. Reduce the extent of the data". So what is the maximum data extent? I guess it's a function of the base unit of the coordinate system. It would be good to know how to calculate it so I can remove an element of trial and error from my work. (For the sake of argument I usually work in 'Raw data in metres'.)

Hello. I have polygons in 3d. I want to split them using a grid that is not 3d - is this possible? Where splits are generated I'd like the z-value of the vertices to be interpolated between the z-values of existing vertices..... is this possible? Thanks in advance....

CE exports to 3ds which can be imported by Sketchup. I believe sketchup is still free, not sure how good the video exports are though. I think 3D Studio Max is easier to use than Maya - still quite complex though and not cheap.

Hi Jorge What tool do you use to convert contours into a raster? I tried TopoToRaster without luck. By-the-way I only want to define areas of height=1 and height=0, in between I want it to be a smooth computer generated slope. Cheers Ben

I'm trying to create a smooth raster gradient between 1 and 0 that I can then use in Raster Calculator. See attached (this is a mockup drawn in photoshop - my actual data is offline) I have input a series of points with value = 1 (red) and a series with value = 0 (blue) I expect a nice smooth gradient between the points but I actually get a kind of salt and pepper effect (as shown). I have found that the effect is very much reduced (but not totally) by using the default cell size however the default it too large, I need a nice small cell size for my RasterCalculator step. Anyone know what's going on here and how I can completely eliminate these defects?
