I've just upgraded to a fully licenced version of CE 2012 (having previously been using 2011 then a trial version of 2012) and I am trying to export from this fully licenced version for the first time. The scene is quite simple and it exported with satisfactory haste in previous versions. I have tried to export a few times, this morning I have been here 45mins and it still says "operation in progress..." and I am still waiting. CPU Usage is piddling along at 5%, I have closed other programs and rebooted and I am still waiting. Is there anything I can try to speed this up? All assets are on my local drive however the licence file is on a network server - does CE look at the licence when exporting? Other aspects of the program seem to run normally.

Some features seem to go missing from the create features window - I can't see why. The features are visible and selectable and I only have one data source - what am I over looking?

Is it possible to upload a geodatabase to the forum - I can't see how to do it? Anyway I'm just testing the procedure so there is no proper data but these are the steps I have done: 1. Draw a line 2. Use Construct points to place points along the line. 3. Set up a Representation on the line feature that follows the direction of the line. 4. Set up a Representation on the point feature. 5. Use Align Marker to Stoke or Fill so the representation on the point feature also follows the direction of the line (or that is the idea anyway). What I ultimately want to do is: a) Draw a line. b) Add points along the line. c) Rotate the points so they follow the line. d) Copy the rotation value to a feature attribute so it can be read in another program.

Thanks, maybe I misunderstand what you mean but I don't think that explains my problem because the line I have drawn is a single contiunous line and yet some of the points orientate at 180 degrees to one another. Even looking at the underlying direction of each segment it doesn't seem to explain the discrepancy in the orientation.

I'm trying to do something similar except I want to create points at certain intervals along the line, then orientate the point to the line and if possible copy the orientation value into an attribute of the point. I am using representations to orientate the point symbol to the line however I'm getting some unexpected results - see attached some symbols are at 180degrees to the others - how can I correct this? And anyone know if it is possible to copy the rotation value into an attribute of the point - not sure where to start on that bit?

Any chance this tool can be made to work more accurately. My goal is to cut a line where they intersect a series of other lines so I have used the "Intersect" tool to create points of intersection so I can then use the "Split Line at Point" tool. All these splits work satisfactorily except for one - for this one I have to increase the search radius to ~0.5m and then, as shown in the attached picture, the split in the line (shown by the arrow heads) is 0.26m from where I need it to be i.e. on the point. Does this happen with Shapefiles? I haven't noticed it. I would like to make the switch to Geodatabases but this will be a deal breaker - I am aware of the X,Y tolerances but the change in geometry is ~30 times the tolerance. The worst part however is the inconsistency - I may be able to accept it if it was consistent but I cannot have overlap/underlaps in my geometry.

Hi, I'm sure this is dead simple but I can't see how to do it...... I'm trying to import a CAD file but its base unit is mm so it comes in 1000 times too large; how do I import it at the correct scale? Thaaaaaanks

Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure this is a genuine bug and I would like someone from ESRI to acknowledge it so I can have some hope that it will be rectified in the next round of bug fixes. It's not a super important tool (work-arounds are possible) but I would like to use it and I believe if you provide a tool it must work reliably otherwise it undermines confidence in the whole of Arc. I have tested this with very simple geometry (see my original post) and I still get erroneous mid-point snaps. This is where you find mid-point snapping: I don't believe it is available in classic snapping.

Ah thank you this helps - I see now that SHIFT inhibits the joining of shapes but I still believe the ability to inhibit snapping completely has gone missing - I think it would be useful, I hope it returns in 2013.

Hello So, CityEngine can only display images <= 4096 pixels, this is fine and reasonable but it means that if I'm using aerial imagery as roof textures the resolution is lower than I would like on my final models. So I'm just wondering if anyone knows a workflow to reference the original high-res image back to my models after export? - I did a simple test with collada but it messed up the uv-mapping. I'm not completely wedded to collada so any format suggestion welcome. Thaaaanks

Hmm, I'm having second thoughts about how supercool the new drawing tools are. Certainly some aspects of them are but other aspects are not so good as far as I can tell. If I draw a nice clean rectangle then another one partially abutting it I get additional vertices in the original shape - these can cause gable roofs to be drawn incorrectly so I find I have to manually delete the additional vertices to get a good roof.

I notice it only seems to produce these errors if I am zoomed-in to a scale of ~1:300 or greater.

Thank you, this is useful but I'm not talking about the "midpoint" tool - I'm talking about the "midpoint snapping" tool which I do not believe works in the way you have described and therefore I still believe is producing erroneous results. Am I correct in assuming that this is the best way to measure to the midpoint of a line or to move an existing feature to a midpoint? Is there a way to make a feature un-snappable without making it invisible?
