Hi Chris Watson, It helps. I would start for desktop developing at Python since you can get most automation functionality out of it. As far as getting web content out there, a little knowledge on JavaScript would greatly help as well.

Hi Ben Gardner, I was able to reproduce the same behavior using your webmap. I saved a copy of your webmap and was able to reproduce there as well. When watching the network traffic, I noticed that it was running into some trouble reading a directory on your ArcGIS Server. I hope this helps!

Jacob Aychman, You would want to do something like this on a per user basis: http://<ORG_SHORT_URL>.maps.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/users/<USERNAME>?f=pjson&token=<TOKEN> I hope this helps!

Before I view the behavior, has this happened in all web browsers that you are using or is it specific to just one? In addition, if you follow me, I can then send you a private message in regards to my ArcGIS Online username.

Hi Jacob Aychman, I spoke too soon. You can use the following REST URL: http://<ORG_SHORTURL>.maps.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/items/<WEBMAP_ID>/data?f=pjson&token=<TOKEN> This will have a json output which you can then parse for the operational layers and their definitions. An example of this output can be found attached.

Hi Jacob Aychman, I am not sure if this functionality you are looking for exists. By taking a look at the ArcGIS REST API, I see no indication that webmaps have their own REST endpoint. One method that would work at gathering the layers for a webmap would be to use the buildlayerlist function found in the link that you provided. On the other hand, if you are looking at a servers REST Endpoint for a MapServer item, you can parse the JSON for the MapServer item. <SERVER_URL>/MapServer/layers?f=pjson Does this help?

I have found this helpful by looking through some documentation on stack exchange a while back. Thought that I might share this here as well. This is a script that can be used to create a new MXD for ArcMap in python. This will allow you to create a new MXD and then modify it using the ArcPy mapping module. This functionality is not currently present in ArcPy so this script uses comtypes to call ArcObjects to create it. Depending on what version of ArcMap that you are running, you may need to change line 9 or 10 in the Snippets.py file to point to the correct assembly reference. (You will want to run run.py) Modify line 8 in run.py to specify the location of the MXD to be created. Sources used: Accessing ArcObjects from Python? http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/80/accessing-arcobjects-from-python Using ArcObjects in Python http://www.pierssen.com/arcgis/upload/misc/python_arcobjects.pdf I hope some users will find this useful.

Hi Daniel Moreno, What is the zoom on the page set to? In addition, are you referring to the legend when you select the print option? Are you hosting this locally or on ArcGIS.com? Can you post the public link if the application is shared publicly? Thanks!

Hi John Byrne, It looks like the datasource attribute is not a property of that element. I would recommend looking at the following documentation (ListLayoutElements (arcpy.mapping)) which can provide some insight into what each elements properties are. The traceback error, which has the message: AttributeError: 'TextElement' object has no attribute 'datasource', lets us know that it is an issue with an attribute associated with a TextElement. So we can look at our TextElement page and see that datasource is not an attribute of the textelements. Text Element (arcpy.mapping) Does this help?
