Robert, I've been working with WAB in beta right on through. I know you've been heavily engaged in Flex efforts over the years, so don't take this the wrong way when i say that I'm much more excited about the java script based application. That said I have a comment and a question: Currently, I don't see the WAB as an equivalent until it provides data file upload for GP Services like Flex supports. I added an enhancement request at the Beta site, but then also saw that someone else made the request. Question: any sense as to why ESRI is trying to put so many hooks into the WAB and AGO. I'm not trying to imply anything sinister here, but the changes you describe at 3.0 was my major reason for staying with 2.0. Even the application itself is tied to AGO to a degree. I'm pondering where this is all going with the final release.

Has anyone else experienced this? We have several GP services that produce a zipfile for download as a result (think Data Extract tool). The user submits the request, the status bar indicates 'succeeded', and then proceeds to just hang there indefinitely. The logs look fine on the server end, the result is produced in the job directories. These services work fine in ArcMap (SOAP), and also via a Flex web application (REST), so we know they work. One of the services even consumes a ZIP as an input, and the GP service in AGX gladly takes that as an input...it simply fails to download it. Any thoughts or experience with something like this?

Marika, Thanks for the response, perhaps Kevin from ESRI Technical Support was able to reach you. While he and I have been working on several issues related to ArcPad, we had been using the download tile applet developed from your team. I discovered that when defining the number of cache levels to download 'below' your current level, the tool would in fact try to download L20; the various cache folders were created in the appropriate location (My Documents) but no tiles were downloaded for this level (only blank HTML files). This is the exact behavior I had witnessed when trying to access cached tiles from our AGS. When I had been testing this with another analyst which concluded in the issuing of a new bug (BUG-000082371), I suddenly recalled that they had me generated only a portion of the tiles (not starting with the world extent). Presumably, they did the same thing on their end (at ESRI), because they observed the behavior. So, ArcPad was trying to access tiles which did not exist. So, this morning is set-about creating a new cache which originated at the world extent (level 00). These tiles were all created and can be seen in the GIS cache directories. However, when accessing this service in ArcPad (after clearing the HTTP 400 error) the same behavior persists. I don't know of any other parameter that is required at this point. The service is: Using Web Mercator projection A cached service using the 'exploded' storage format option The appropriate Tiling Scheme which includes the level 0 tiles The cached folder ArcPad creates a folder called L01 with blank HTML references and does not appear to be creating an L00 folder first as expected. Furthermore, when you add any service from ArcGIS online, it initiates the tile download with Level 01; you must perform a fixed zoom out in order to acquire L00 in your local cache folder. Even though you have level 0 tile cache present for your AGS map service, ArcPad is starting with L01 (which does exist).

Wendy, will follow-up on this soon, been straight out, but I'm confident we can get this if I can understand your environment a bit more. Could you please just say where your data is normally stored: your local desktop, the GIS Server itself, or another shared location? What is the exact error you are getting?

Both...I have it scripted to do weekly along with a compress for our replicas. While our database is so very much smaller than yours, we find it critical to performance, especially with editing. Have you contacted the Geodata team? IMO, they are among the best ESRI Technical Support has to offer.

I know this is probably something you've already done, but we use the Native GEOMETRY storage type for our GDB's in SQL 2012 RDBMS and rebuilding the indexes is critical to performance.

Presuming your ArcGIS account is a local user account, have you granted permissions to that user account for the folder in question? I'm not quite sure I understand the need to have the data in two locations, however. More specifically: for the location in which the data you want to publish resides: the ArcGIS account must be granted permission to read this data/folder. This location does not have to be on your ArcGIS server. If your ArcGIS account is a local user account (and not a domain user), and your data is not on the arcgis server, you will need to create another ArcGIS local account providing the same username and password as the one which resides on your server. To do this in Windows, Control Panel>User Accounts>Manage User accounts>advanced and create a new local 'arcgis' user [alternatively: at CMD prompt type 'lusrmgr']

Here is the bug info: BUG-000082371: Adding a map service to ArcPad 10.2.1 from an ArcGIS Server returns the following error: “Encountered HTTP error 400 for" Interestingly it is related to: This bug is related to: NIM102113 ["Adding basemap data to ArcPad 10.2 from http://services.arcgisonline.com to Desktop returns the following error: “Encountered HTTP error 400 for"] And now an open plea: Why does ESRI continue advertise functionality that doesn't exist? Is this vaporware?

First I want to say that ESRI Support is working on this and will likely log a bug but also encouraged me to reach out here. This question is similar to the one logged by the poor user who submitted their question here that never got answered. Server is version 10.2.1 and ArcPad is version 10.2.2 Very basic cached map service for testing. Service is consumed fine in Desktop (SOAP) and REST endpoint. Accessing map services from AGS via ArcPad first yields an HTTP error 400; then after clearing that error the icon spins and the service never loads. Adding map services from AGO or Bing images yields an HTTP error 400, but then the data does indeed load. Feature services can be added from AGS [but are not rendered as defined by their related map service component]. Please keep in mind that is is advertised functionality: " ArcGIS Server Similarly to ArcGIS Online, you can configure your own ArcGIS Server to publish map services. Map services can be used in ArcPad in the same way as the ArcGIS Online basemap services. As with ArcGIS Online services, when you connect to an ArcGIS Server service from ArcPad a NMF file is created and added to ArcPad. Once created, this file can be added to future ArcPad maps, via the Add Layer(s) tool." ESRI is able to replicate the identical issue; troubling since this functionality was released some time ago. Has anyone else experienced this behavior? I will edit and post the NIM number when I receive it.

So far I cannot detect any difference between the two input feature classes other than that anything in pre 10.2 copy features will work. If I set the input to be a FC from a 10.2 file GDB, I get the 'ol 000210 error. Projections aren't an issue, both inputs reside in the same level of the file structure, no differences in OS permissions. I've created a fresh fGDB for testing, same behavior. I can even have both FC versions in the same MXD and just switching the input in the model decides success or failure. To be fair, when i say non-10.2 GDB, my older ones are almost all 9.3. I'll try to test with an intermediate version as well. I have tested with different output locations and no problems there. Its odd because the error raised is related to output...not input. I am currently writing to %scratchFolder%. Has anyone seen similar if not identical behavior from this? Again, it appears to only affect 10.2 fGDB using the copy features tool.

I was sure happy to see that ESRI is finally going to support SharePoint Online/O365! But after signing up for the beta program I'm seeing that using ArcGIS Server/Portal isn't supported. Will this be supported within the 4.0 release?

Seeing the blog post for the release of 3.0.1 reminded me that there has been talk of support for the 'cloud' version Office 365 at the 'next release' since 2.something. When might this be a reality?

Allison, I know this thread is 2 months old now, but I'm scouring the forums in a desperate attempt to get to the bottom of an error that myself and (at least one other) user have experienced Can you describe the exact behavior that occurs in GME when you execute the python script? Would it be possible for you to drop the '-c' switch to have a look? Also, nice work. I had also thought about just taking all of my GME commands and stuffing them down into a text file to be run as a script for GME, but i'm not sure it will help me at this point given the error we're experiencing. Thanks, Z
