Does it print fine if you turn off security on your service? If not, then it's probably a different problem. What is the URL to your print service? That server needs to be able to connect to your service. Can you use a tool like HttpFox to see the print request and response? The client should be sending the short term token as part to the url in the Web_Map_as_JSON parameter. it is passing a token...you can see the token listed in the error in the viewer...on error for each secured service. print task and map services on the same GIS server....and furthermore, (and it shouldn't matter) both the GP service and Map service are secured with the same role. If i knew more what to look for in the HTTPFox it could be of more help.

Hi Ian, We're targeting the next release for late Sept/early Oct timeframe (so very soon!) It will include the following as part of its core functionality: - bookmarks tool - measure tool - support for custom locators - print tool (supports the new 10.1 Printingtools GP service) It will be built and compiled on the ArcGIS v3.0 API for Silverlight release. We're planning on supporting the ArcGIS Viewer for Silverlight for the foreseeable future. It (along with the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex) is the out-of-the-box, configurable web mapping application builder for ArcGIS for Server moving forward. Hope this helps, Will 3.0 have an identity manager built-in to handle secured arcgis server services?

Please see this help page: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/#/Printing_maps_that_contain_secured_services/0154000005q3000000/ Dasa, I'm not sure what the other 2 users said that made you certain that the above article would solve the particular problem? The article is specific in that it only addresses long-term/built-in token...not short-lived tokens which is what the other users may be experiencing and is the case for my situation. The credentials for the secured map services are clearly being authenticated (by the identity manager) as the map services display just fine. I too receive a nearly identical error as kvlastos152 describes...it gives and error for each secured map service when i try to print...unfortunately I cannot find a way to copy from error dialog's in flex. Base maps with no services will print just fine. I have spent the last 2 days with tech support trying to resolve this issue with no success. I would greatly appreciate any fresh perspective on this as it is clear to me that: Web searches indicate this is a common issue Tech support does not know how to resolve the issue.

Please see this help page: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/#/Printing_maps_that_contain_secured_services/0154000005q3000000/ That article only points to longterm/built-in tokens....I'm still having issues with what seems to be the initial log-in credentials not being passed to the print task.

Update: API set-up, looks like i need to add another hat to the rack along with all the other roles a GIS person has to play these days. Currently have an incident open with ESRI in trying to get a way to add the identity manager to the viewer. I've since learned that the viewer template still has not been updated to match the current SDK so I'm pretty sure that's a show stopper right there. The ESRI support person has suggested you can add the identity functionality as an Add-In for the viewer, but due to the reason above i'm not buying it (nor have had the time to test it, but that would be great). So, alas, I may wait until the new viewer is issued (and just hope that the identity manager is built in this time around or i'll be back haunting the API support folks).

hi, we have a basic web editing site which allows users to add points, and we want to track those edits. However, we don't want to have a constrained set of defined users along with associated passwords because we expect the number of users to get very large very quickly and it would be cumbersome to try to define each of them. We'd just like to have an open site where any user could have access without authentication, but would just need to initially input an e-mail address or some identifying string. Then that would be attached to his added features, as in the Editor Tracking sample. Is it possible to customize the Editor Tracking sample code or the secure services functionality to achieve this? Thanks much! Dan I'm pretty sure i saw an example of this while out at Redlands earlier this year; this was before 10.1 came out. I think what I would do as a test is keep the service secured and handle the web-facing exposure via a proxy page. In the example I saw the person from ESRI did demonstrate your same scenario with editor tracker...it logged the time created, but i think the user field was blank (or possibly logged with the credentials used to create your token in your proxy page...but that may be the coffee talking).

For what I need, the SL viewer does 85% of what I want it to do. Unfortunately, it doesn't contain the identity manager functionality. I am aware (and have set up) a means of forms based authentication, but frankly if i'm going to go through all the trouble of setting up user's and roles on my server (using the built-in store) I'd just assume have the various services be authenticated there. Anyway, this brings me to basically trying to find a basic template and getting the functionality i need inserted into it. What is, in your opinion, the easiest way to set up your developing environment? Do I understand correctly that I need both Visual studio and Expression blend? Any tips or shortcuts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm painfully new at all this but here is the scenario: with help from ESRI, i was able to get the forms based authentication up and running for my silverlight viewer and deployed applications. My problem or hang-up is the fact that the simple forms solution stores user credentials coded in the login.aspx My ArcGIS server stores credentials in a SQL database and from an organizational standpoint it would be so much easier to adhere to that current workflow of creating and assigning users in SQL via AGS Manager. I've spent a good deal of time looking at various asp.net solutions but so far haven't found anything that doesn't seem to muck up the default.aspx in the root directory of the deployed silverlight app. My questions are: organizational convenience aside, does this plan make any sense or is it not really a safe method? keep in mind there is a proxy page in the background which the application is using to access secured services can anyone point me in a direction that allows me to set-up a login scenerio as described? OR can anyone point me in a direction which uses the now working forms based authentication but utilizes some sort of credential 'store' elsewhere which avoids relying on coding various users directly into the login? I'm looking at managing various user levels for 30-40 people. This may belong better in another forum, but with seemingly complicated default.aspx that silverlight utilizes I thought it best to place my question here.

Hi Zachary: I'm assuming you mean that you want Application Builder to publish Viewer apps using a FQDN. All you need to do to get this working is update the AppsBaseUrl in Builder's web.config with the desired URL. I discovered that area in the config file and have already done this and each time the software reverts it back to the machine name with port 80. PS, since i've not heard back from anyone at support in the last few days perhaps you could take a look through the open incident? It's promising to be actually talking to a Silverlight product engineer!

Has anyone had this problem? We are using HTTPS/SSL, and for the install i made sure to use the secured Port. However these did not seem to matter as the web.config still refers to the machinename:80. Launching the viewer references HTTP://machinename:80/silverlight_builder.... returns a HTTP 403 forbidden error if you force the browser to the correct FQDN,a warning appears appears asking if you want to display mixed content...clicking yes the builder then loads. Deploying an app has the same problems and doesn't seem to want to load any basemaps (although that may be a simple configuration error?). I do have an incident logged with ESRI from a couple of days ago, I'm just desperately seeking and hoping that someone else from out the in the battlefield already encountered this and knows what to do.

I'm glad to hear this is actually the more secure path! Now if i could only get the viewer working right...i see no means to configure it to use a FQDN rather than the machine name. Hi Zachary, Yes. Please see this help topic: Adding secured services No. The recommended pattern is a proxy page as this is a more secure path. Hope this helps,
