Hi Loralyn, It appears that you are running to a bug where the Graphics tab that has the selection tool is not available when the context is an activated map frame in a layout view. Here is a screenshot showing this using graphics created in ArcGIS Pro. This could be due to how the MXD Map Annotation is converted to Pro graphics. I'll follow up and see if this is an actual bug. If this is something you want to track I suggest contacting support to log an issue. They can be contacted at https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support. To workaround this issue you can either: Edit your "map annotation" graphics in the Map View where you should see the Graphics tab in the ribbon. You can dock the layout view next to the map view to see how your changes in the map view look in the layout. In ArcMap, convert the map annotation to GDB annotation features. You should be able to edit these in Pro just like any other features. Hope this helps, Tom

You can also Clear the selection via the layer context menu in the Contents pane. This works in Layout View as well as it does in Map View. You can either select a specific layer or multiple layers. Tom

Hello everyone, Please see my previous post for detailed info on this. I understand that you want this capability and that disabling the control is not the ideal solution. Thanks to those that have added their support to Allow Rectangle Textbox to Grow/Shrink and Vertically Justify Text. While the number of kudos helps weigh the relative importance of the idea, posts that highlight the importance of this functionality to your workflow help us get a fuller picture - even though the issue is seemingly simple and straightforward additional information can add weight to the request. Please continue this conversation on the idea thread, as opposed to this question thread. Thanks, Tom

All, A graphics layer is required to add graphic elements (shapes, text, pictures) to a map. Without a graphics layer you will not get the Graphics tab as shown in the nice screenshot provided by @AngelaSchirck - thanks Angela! You add a graphics layer to the map by clicking the Add Graphics Layer button under the Layer group on the Map tab ribbon. Please see the help topic Work with graphic elements in a map for more information. Hope this helps, Tom

Hi Erik, I'm not currently aware of any general, or specific issues with opening layout files in Pro 3.0 or 3.0.2. Without knowing the makeup of the layout file I cannot offer any suggestions to resolve or work around this issue. The problem you are running into may be specific to your layout file. Can you contact Esri Support? They are better equipped to handle troubleshooting steps and gather bug data. They can be contacted at https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support. Tom

Hi Robert, I noticed in your video that the New layer option under Synchronize with map group in the Legend Element pane is checked on. When you group layers you are technically creating a new layer - a group layer. If New layer is checked its member layers are going to be added to the legend. I don't think we would treat group layer differently than a single layer. For the workflow shown in the video I would suggest unchecking New layer before grouping the map layers. This will keep the legend from automatically detecting new group layers (and their members) and will give you the ability to drag layers in and out of the legend as you see fit. Hope this helps, Tom

Hi Kenneth, This is expected behavior. The clipping of layers in this fashion is basically a visual clip. The overlap of symbology with the clip geometry is not taken into account. To do so would likely result in significant decrease in performance. You might want to consider using Page Queries instead of clipping the map. However, if you have features whose symbology overlaps multiple map series pages and you want the features to be represented in all the pages and the symbology to be persevered (that is not chopped off at the edge) I don't think we have an easy solution for that. If this is something that you think is important to your workflow I would suggest adding this to the Ideas site. I don't recall this ever coming up, but it sounds like a reasonable enhancement if enough people think it useful. Thanks for the feedback! Tom

Hi Lindsay, This defiantly looks like a bug. I tried replicating on Pro version 3.0.1 and was unable to reproduce. I'm not sure what could be causing this. I think we'll need your data/steps in order to troubleshoot further. Can you contact Esri Support at https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support. Thanks, Tom

Hi Rob, You ask if there is a way to "Set word wrapping on legend when using both labels and descriptions?" As you probably know you can do this with a 2 clicks at the legend level and it applies to all layers. From the help topic Arrange a Legend. Currently, there is no way to apply word wrapping for both Labels and Descriptions in a single click. Reading further in your post it looks like you'd want to set wrapping at the legend item (layer) level - different wrapping values for different legend items. Currently, this is not supported in Pro. I believe this is how word wrapping has worked for Data Driven Pages in ArcMap and how it has worked Map Series in ArcGIS Pro. Sounds like a good candidate for the ideas site. Unfortunately, having all your legend items in a single columns restricts your options as I'm sure you have already discovered. You'll probably need to move to a multiple column legend and play with with layer order and the spacing between columns and or legend item parts to get a better legend. Another possible solution it multiple legends (each with different legend items and with different wrapping values). In this case you will need to know the full extent (which map series page fully extents the legend) in order to avoid pages where the legends overlap. It is possible to create a sperate legend for each legend item if you want. Doesn't look like you are working with that many layers, so this might be an option. Hope this helps, Tom

Lauren, I understand the placement limitations of labels, however, if you are creating a point feature class just for labeling you can always move the point feature for better label placement. Though I do like your idea on calculating the angle. That should make for a cleaner solution than creating a new feature class. Tom
