What are you using to clip the data frame shape? Is it a feature class, specified extents, or something else? I used another feature class to clip and it does not have the background.

If you are using ArcGIS Desktop (and not Explorer) and are at 10.1, the easiest thing to do would probably be to use the new Convert Coordinate Notation tool.

The Calculate Field Examples help article should give you some ideas. This example comes from that page: Expression:
density
Expression Type:
VB
Code Block:
Dim density
If [POP90_SQMI] < 100 Then
density = "low"
elseif [POP90_SQMI] < 300 Then
density = "medium"
else
density = "high"
end if

Hmm, I tried on 10.1 and 10.0 and cannot repro what you are seeing- if I set it to None or Hollow, they both look good and there is no background color. If you call in and create a support ticket, we can do a screenshare and try to figure out what is going on. But, None or Hollow should do what you are asking for. -Luke

Admed- If you click Help > About ArcMap, what build number do you have? The Manage Connections button is only applicable (and present) if you do not have the final build, which is what I understood you had when you said you were on trial 1. Do you for certain have an organizational (as opposed to personal) ArcGIS Online account?

I see, I thought you had ArcInfo (Advanced) based on your original post. There isn't really a way to do it out of the box if you aren't at this license level. You could search through ArcScripts to see if there are any user submitted scripts that do a similar function.

Great directions but what do you do if You have ArcMap 10 version. When you sign in there is no "manage connections" option. thanks Thanks Daniel, sharing map/feature services through ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Online is new at 10.1, so you will not have this ability at version 10.0.

You shouldn't be making a GIS Server connection... The first step is to determine if you have a personal or organizational account. You will want an organizational account to publish services to the cloud. Once you have ensured that you have an organizational account: 1. Click File > Sign In 2. Put in your username and password and click Manage Connections 3. In a browser, navigate and log into you arcgis.com organizational account 4. Copy the URL to your homepage 5. Paste this into the Manage Connections window 6. Close the remaining windows and Sign In 7. Then, My Hosted Services in ArcCatalog and in the Share As dialogue should appear If this doesn't take care of it, it might be easiest to log a support request (888-377-4575). Thanks!

That is for ArcExplorer Java Edition for Education- you won't be able to install this... That is an old legacy version, but the new version is ArcGIS Explorer Desktop. You can download it here as long as you have the Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 SP1 installed. You can also check the other system requirements here.

I think you need to do the Manage Connections suggestion I had in the previous post. The "My Hosted Services" in ArcCatalog will become enabled once you Sign In successfully using the correct connections. Please go to arcgis.com and log into your organizational account. Then, copy the URL to your organizational account and paste it into the "Manage Connections" section on the Sign In window.

On the measure tool, you can click the little drop down (downward facing arrow) and select Planar. If it is greyed out, try switching your data frame coordinate system to a projected coordinate system.
