Sorry for the thread necromancy, but are there any plans to implement Parcel Fabrics in Pro? That's what we work in here, and I have no idea what I'm going to do if ArcMap's retired and there's no Parcel Fabric solution available.

when was the last time you did geodatabase maintenance? like compress -> rebuild indexes -> analyze datasets? also check your spatial indexes. if they don't match the data frame that can affect speed.

I still haven't figured out how or why the connection lines I mentioned in my answer here and in the Meetup thread were generated.

I've noticed that error when there is a stray connection line generated inside the parcel that is not connected to anything but appears in the traverse grid.

We haven't tried to make an automated workflow to import CAD files we receive from various entities just because the drawings we were getting varied widely in how much clean up was necessary. That's just been my experience though - if the drawings you get are mostly uniform, then best of luck to you and please share what you find out!

Oh and before I forget - sometimes the job book can cause problems if it still has a ton of jobs in it that are just hanging out there. I do not recall exactly why they persist in the book after post/reconcile, but every once in a while I do have to go in and manually delete jobs that have already been completed.

Yeah, we work in a parcel fabric. The parcel fabric resides in a GDB, think of a GDB like a folder and all your parcels and such reside in it. Do you have someone that maintains all that on a server for you guys?

Total shot in the dark, but have you done the compress/rebuild index/analyze dataset that's recommended for versioned databases? I *think* I've run into this before but I can't exactly recall. I didn't make a note beforehand, but if I have some funky problems like that I'll just reconcile all versions (there's only 2 of us here, not sure if this would be feasible for you), delete them, unregister the GDB and run the recommended maintenance routine a few times then try and get the problem to repeat itself. Here's a link to what I'm talking about: Recommended version administration workflow—ArcGIS Help | ArcGIS Desktop

Hi Tim, The default geodatabase is the original default, a file geodatabase on my hard drive under Documents\ArcGIS. The fabric resides on our server.

Hey yall! I was stoked to try the export to simple feature classes tool for our public release, but I've tried a few times and run into this error. States the tool can't be used in an edit session, which I already knew from the notes. I'm not in an edit session. I'm using 10.4.1. I'll provide any other details I can to help.

so did you have to add parcel types to accommodate a non-plss reference frame or did you need different parcel attributes in the GIS, or something else More or less customized parcel types, which a good 3/4 of our data doesn't vary too terribly much from the basic meat of the LGIM (tax parcels, subdivisions, lots & ROW polygons). Where mine diverges from the stock LGIM is that we maintain taxing entity and voting district data that would be *super useful* to have all in the same place all the time. I fell in love with the traverse grid available in the parcel fabric, and having to go back to basic tools to edit the entity and district data was cumbersome. It also probably would be very difficult to teach someone new all the ins and outs. We use abstracts and metes and bounds (this blog post does a great job of explaining that, even though we're not oil and gas) also which of the fabric tools were most helpful - the adjustments, the control, etc. I wish I could say that we use the adjustment tools. Unfortunately my organization does not maintain control point data, and on the rare occasion I do get a plat or survey with that kind of data I will add them - but that is seldom and I may never have enough control points provided to perform any kind of adjustment. I love the parcel fabric for the traverse grid, as I've already mentioned, and the construction tools available. Before I came along, our organization was still editing with ArcInfo in coverages and I scoured the documentation for similar tools and found the parcel fabric suite, so even though we don't utilize all the tools available it's still a pretty good solution. edit: I am keeping a log of everything I do and am planning on writing it up as a blog at some point, when I am finished.

I was originally looking at repurposing the PLSS layers because we do not use that system in my area. I figured out how to modify the layers as suggested in #3, and was hoping there might be some way to modify the layers in the parcel fabric group. Right now I'm testing out modifying a non-LGIM fabric to suit our needs, the LGIM is great but there ended up being a cumbersome amount of customization to the table vs just adding what I need to a non-LGIM fabric. Thank you for your response!

I noticed that there are four subclasses to the LGIM model (ownership, separated right, other, PLSS second division) that are not displayed when the fabric is loaded to a new map document. Is there a way to display these by default? I'm trying to develop a custom solution for my organization and it would be a great help if I could figure out how manipulate how the subclasses are displayed in the table of contents.
