Ben, That is indeed a different scenario. Hard to imagine how complicated and dynamic that situation must be. I think your ideas for improvements to esri software make a lot of sense. Esri seems to offer a number of apps in this realm, but nothing specific for the first responder, who needs info at their finger tips quickly. At least nothing I'm finding that's tailored to firefighters requirements. Thanks

Hi. I'm interested to know if there is a way to side load a mobile map package to multiple end user devices? We use Meraki for mobile device management (MDM). It is designed to install apps, which is great, and we use it to push apps like Explorer or Collector to our field staff. Now, I'd like to push the mmpk, but Meraki does not appear to offer this capability. Googling this, I'm not really finding that other MDM software can do this either. Some have a capability to push files to devices, but they can't save the file into the app folder where it needs to go. So, looking for advice. Have others investigated this? I'd like to load the mmpk silently, without end users having to do anything. It's usually a cluster, when non-technical field staff need to do anything beyond just using a simple app 😉 Thanks

Hi. Curious what other agencies are doing to support firefighters en-route to an incident. Do agencies provide them with a mobile app with routing and access to prefire diagrams? And if so, what apps have you deployed? At City of Bellevue, we had build a custom iOS app with ESRI technology the integrated with dispatch to handle routing, and also provided access via an offline map, to reference data like fire hydrants, as well as access to prefire drawings (this is the term we use for the diagrams of large buildings with info about entrances, lock boxes, stairs, hazardous materials, etc...), as PDFs that could be viewed on the device. The app has become difficult to maintain and pretty fragile and we recently retired it and have replaced it with the Explorer for ArcGIS native app. As an out of the box app, it's missing some of the custom features of the old app, but we are hoping to make up for that in terms of reliability and stability. That said, there are some significant limitations. It's not integrated with dispatch, so firefighters need to manually input addresses in order to get directions. We are currently not offering an offline version, so there are connectivity issues. We require a sign in, as the maps contain sensitive info and the firefighters hate taking the time for that as they have limited time to interact with the app and just want to get info fast. So, wondering how other agencies are tackling this. Using esri technology? Other vendors? Out of the box vs custom apps? Thanks

Brian, You might be running into this a known bug. Check this thread - https://community.esri.com/thread/238736-why-does-the-basemap-change-when-downloading-a-mobile-map-package?commentID=875… There is a work-around provided but I have not tried it.

Hi. I'm running version 2.4.3. I'm attempting to create an mmpk for use in Explorer for arcgis. Wishing to use one of the esri basemaps, I have the streets vector basemap in the project, and I'm using the 'Download Map' tool to download a small portion for my area of interest as a map tile package - documented here. I'm running into 2 issues: This appears to be extremely slow. It takes 20-30 minutes or so for the progress bar to appear complete. Note that as a test, I have an aoi of a couple city blocks only. Also, I'm not generating the most large scale level. It never completes. The status bar indicates that it has finished (after 30 min) but the process seems to hang and eventually I have to kill pro. Also interested in other workflows that would accomplish this, if there are other ways. Thanks

Hi, Users are reporting that Explorer requires them to sign in each time they use it. Meaning that they need to authenticate on the ArcGIS server secured service on each use (this is not the sign in to our AGOL org). Does anyone have ideas about what might cause this? My understanding is that once a user has authenticated and assuming the app is not closed, they should remain signed in. Users are either in our fire stations on wifi or out in the field on cellular, and may go back and forth between those modes multiple times during a shift. This is for iOS. Most users are at latest version. Thanks

Nick, thanks for the reply. I figured there were some logical reasons and your explanation helps me to understand why the change was made. Regarding this point - "One thing to note is that when you authenticate successfully for one layer, any other layers that are secured with the same authentication mechanism and credentials should be automatically loaded, so you shouldn't need to tap through each one and provide the same credentials repeatedly." - It's true that the user does not have to repeatedly provide credentials, but they do have to take the time to tap on each additional layer after providing credentials on the first one. An enhancement suggestion is that once the user has authenticated one layer of a service, all the other layers from that service automatically become visible on the map. Our use case at Bellevue is for our firefighters to access prefire drawings (details about buidings, like locations of entrances, stairs, hazardous materials) in the field. The prefires are stored as attachments and it works pretty well. That said, they have multiple tasks they need to complete in a very short time frame as they approach the incident, and they always complain about the need to sign in. We can't really avoid that as there is sensitive data provided on the map, but I'd like to make it as quick and easy as possible. Thanks

Hi, I noticed a change in the sign in interface (for authenticating secured services) in the latest version of Explorer (19.1.0). The webmap consumes several services (arcgis server services) that are secured with windows auth, and users must sign in with their network passwords. Previously, the sign in dialog displayed when the map first loaded. Now, instead, there is a dialog that pops up, indicating that layers are secure and it has a botton that says "view". Clicking this, opens the layers interface, and layers are shown with organge warning icons. Clicking one prompts the sign in dialog to display. But in order to load all the layers to the map one must click on each layer in turn. Seems like a very simple UI has become a rather cumbersome chore. I'm wondering why this change was made? Especially if there are a lot of layers, this new sign in UI could be pretty tedious. Thanks

Hi. On android devices, Explorer does not display layers from secured services (arcgis online - we use active directory as our user store, LDAP I believe), nor does it prompt the user to sign in or give any way to sign in. Tried it on 2 devices with the latest version of the app. Same behavior. When I open the layers widget, each is shown with an orange triangle icon next to it. Tapping this does nothing. Note, this is a publicly shared map, so the users dont sign in to AGOL, just authenticate with the map service. Anyone seen this? Seems like a pretty major bug. Thanks

Hi. It would be helpful to allow users to access attachments in popups with less clicks. I have a use case where there is no attribute info to display. The only content the user is interested in is the attachments. As it stands, the popup defaults to the Details tab. The user, then must switch to the attached tab and then click on the button to show attachments. This could be implemented as follows: if the "no attribute" info choice is selected in the popup, and there are 1 or more attachments, then the popup should open with the attached tab open. On that same note, if there is only 1 attachment, it would be great if it was just displayed by default, rather than requiring user to click it. Thanks
