If you have all ready used a value of 1, try using .5 or even .05, the help is unclear on whether you can use a decimal or whole number.

Does the same thing happen if you load the layer into a blank map with no other layers loaded?

Do you only have one web adaptor instance set up? It sounds like you may have one and the default is a local instances that is more than likely unsecured. In IIS you will need to create a secure web site, with binding set to 443. Once you have this set up, then you can point a new web adaptor instance to this secured site, then the HTTPS should hold. I am not certain. Thank you.

This week I have seen that our 2 GIS Servers with 8 gb's of RAM / server, was using 91% of the RAM / server. I saw that there was always a SOC instance open when a map service was not in use. Here is where the issue begins. We have 56 map services / server, and the open SOC's are anywhere from 80 - 120 mb's. We were using just over 7 gb's of RAM just to have a SOC available for the map services, there was not enough space available for processing or very little processing. I needed to tune the map services to not have any SOC's open once the client was finished using the map service. Here are the steps for adjusting the instances on the map service. 1. Open ArcCatalog 2. Make an administrative GIS server connection a. Click GIS Servers b. Click Add GIS Server c. Select Administer GIS server and click next d. Next add your server (i.e. http://<my_gis_server>:6080/arcgis) e. For Authentication, I use my ArcGIS server account f. Click Finish 3. In the list of servers double click on your administrative connection to connect to the server 4. Right click on the service that you want to change the available instances 5. Select Service properties 6. On the left side of the Service Editor dialogue, click on Pooling 7. Under Specify the Number of Instance change the minimum number of instances per machine to 0 8. Click on OK This procedure will not leave any open instances for the map service once the instance is not being used. The map service will create the SOC automatically once a client starts to use the service. I set all of my map services minimum instances to 0 and I will monitor the use to see if a should increase on a case-by-case basis. I have noticed that the map services are responding quicker. I am beginning to test if the better speed is due to the extra RAM, or if a bug might be there in the use of the existing instance. I will let you all know what I find out.

I am wondering if you have thought of using versioning? Then each group or each individual would have their version, but they would not be able to change the main database, which is controlled by the person with the rights to implement the changes to that database.

For the additional functionality you need to turn on the WFS service as well, then you should be able to perform the other functions.

The map service needs to be recreated as a feature service in order to be used in the geoprocess. This allows the service to be query able.

I believe the issue with the administrator not working is that this account needs to be a site administrator for the database and it needs dbo rights, because it is trying to make a direct connect to the database with operating system authentication. Thank you.

Hey Rickey could you keep the field length at a shortened name, and then add the long name as an alias? I do not know if this would have an effect on the performance as well. In earlier versions of geodatabases we were limited to the number of charters in field names, and this was a way to get around that limitation. I am not sure if the database would look at the alias differently from the actual name. Thank you.

With the way our state is serving GIS data through our GEOHUB, we can load the metadata to the site in either FGDC or ISO formats. I have been having a problem exporting the metadata for the map services that we needed to upload. I have found where the metadata is stored on the server for the map service. The best part of this is if you set the metadata to the FGDC standard then this is the stored version in the metadata location on the server. the user can give their system administrator the following path (with key items changed to your server), and then copy the xml to a location of your choosing. The user can then change the name to a name that makes sense to them. Here is the path: C:\arcgisserver\config-store\services\<Service_Name>.MapServer\esriinfo\metadata\metadata.xml The cool thing is there is no need to export, at this point because this file is in the format that you choose all ready. I hope this helps people who may be new to setting up metadata for a map service.

Based on Esri's posting about not supporting the Flex and Windows Silverlight api's beyond the current version, I am in the process of converting our current Flex Viewer applications to JavaScript, I will be taking JavaScript training, but I am wondering how easy it will be to convert my current applications with their functionality to JavaScript? Thank you for your comments and ideas in advance. Here are the links to a couple of our more widely used app's to let you know what I have.
