It should work as long as your version is in an SDE database with the feature access enabled for editing.

Yes, you need to make sure that Feature Access is enabled on the map service as well. Publish features—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS In this link specifically look at Publish from ArcMap. Editor permissions for feature services—Documentation (10.3 and 10.3.1) | ArcGIS for Server This link gives instruction for setting Edit capabilities on a feature service. I hope this helps.

Dianne, Keep in mind that the ObjectID is an internal ID and can change based on changes to the individual line segments themselves. Lets say you did not complete a line segment, so you create another segment to complete it, your shapefile will add a new ObjectID for that next segment. The shapefile also orders the ObjectID from TOP to Bottom and starts in the upper left and moves to the right. Just a few points to keep in mind as you create the line work.

Even if you have a name field identify each record you could join on this field, this could be bad if you have the same name for multiple records, but at least it should work for most of the records and cut down the amount of manual work that you may need to do.

Load the shapefile into ArcMap, then change the data frame coordinate system to the projection that you want the data in, then right click on the layer and choose data>export data, and save the file as a new shapefile using the dataframe option, this will save the layer in the desired projection.

Yesterday I ran into an issue plotting well sites across the state. When I zoomed to the full extent of the shapefile that I created from a txt file, I noticed many of the locations showing up in Asia, this is very common, these records were missing the negative in front of the Longitude values to place them in my state. I thought no problem, I will add a new field and calculate it equal to a negative and the old field. This worked beautifully just like I expected. I re added the txt document to my map and still saw the sites in Asia. When I identified the sites, what did I see, my new values were positives, because when I performed the calculation all of my correct records that all ready had a negative changed to a positive with my new negative that I added. So, my daughter has been working on integers lately in math, and she will get a kick out of this when I tell her the I messed up my locations, because I did not pay attention to the signs. I hope I gave you a good laugh or at least a chuckle. Have a great day.

This is a major issue, how to produce enough for the current population to sustain them, while planning for the future. Secondly, how to produce more on foresee ably less land, but do this with out putting peoples health at risk. The costs are going to go through the roof, and this ultimately comes back on the consumer. It is amazing what Geospatial Technology has done to assist the agricultural community answer or response to the current issues, from precision farming to planting certain crops in certain areas because of the climate issues within the region. As scary as it is, it will be exciting to see where the technology goes to assist with the going needs and concerns. Thank you for sharing the article.

The help says that the distance is in page units and points for default. You could use meters or decimal degrees as well. If the points are not all ready in geographic, you could try converting them to geographic and then using the decimal degree option.

Do you only have one web adaptor instance set up? It sounds like you may have one and the default is a local instances that is more than likely unsecured. In IIS you will need to create a secure web site, with binding set to 443. Once you have this set up, then you can point a new web adaptor instance to this secured site, then the HTTPS should hold. I am not certain. Thank you.

This week I have seen that our 2 GIS Servers with 8 gb's of RAM / server, was using 91% of the RAM / server. I saw that there was always a SOC instance open when a map service was not in use. Here is where the issue begins. We have 56 map services / server, and the open SOC's are anywhere from 80 - 120 mb's. We were using just over 7 gb's of RAM just to have a SOC available for the map services, there was not enough space available for processing or very little processing. I needed to tune the map services to not have any SOC's open once the client was finished using the map service. Here are the steps for adjusting the instances on the map service. 1. Open ArcCatalog 2. Make an administrative GIS server connection a. Click GIS Servers b. Click Add GIS Server c. Select Administer GIS server and click next d. Next add your server (i.e. http://<my_gis_server>:6080/arcgis) e. For Authentication, I use my ArcGIS server account f. Click Finish 3. In the list of servers double click on your administrative connection to connect to the server 4. Right click on the service that you want to change the available instances 5. Select Service properties 6. On the left side of the Service Editor dialogue, click on Pooling 7. Under Specify the Number of Instance change the minimum number of instances per machine to 0 8. Click on OK This procedure will not leave any open instances for the map service once the instance is not being used. The map service will create the SOC automatically once a client starts to use the service. I set all of my map services minimum instances to 0 and I will monitor the use to see if a should increase on a case-by-case basis. I have noticed that the map services are responding quicker. I am beginning to test if the better speed is due to the extra RAM, or if a bug might be there in the use of the existing instance. I will let you all know what I find out.

I am wondering if you have thought of using versioning? Then each group or each individual would have their version, but they would not be able to change the main database, which is controlled by the person with the rights to implement the changes to that database.
