NO NO NO NO NO!!!! This IS NOT what I am talking about. This is for an ArcGIS 1001 user. As in someone who doesn't know ArcGIS but can automatically see an issue with it? PLEASE. I only had to install Visual Studio 2015 and Arcobjects end ended up getting a fraction of what I needed. Click Identify button. Identify window should AUTOMATICALLY show up in same place every time in relation to the identified feature. As in, when you select something from a table and it AUTOMATICALLY goes to the center of the screen. Why can't the same thing AUTOMATICALLY happen when you identify? Zoom in to identified feature at X distance away? Dragging and docking is not what I had in mind at all. And certainly not a dock at bottom of screen thing either. PLEASE. I still don't have an answer as to why there is an Empty Field in the identify window. Why is it we can't use that field for the last 8 attributes out of 16, for example?

But what if we’re working in ArcGIS 10.5? I am not allowed to use ArcGIS Pro.

Some of us aren’t working in Pro. Do you know how to do the same thing in ARC GIS??

An ESRI rep did actually help me on a version of this--I partly say version because it required installation of Visual Studio 2015 before installing ArcObjects (how retarded is that). I drowned in guilt for our IT department but at least we got ArcObjects installed when we didn't have it before). Anyhow: The zooming in part in relation to the ID window wasn't taken care of. Grr.

I have something roughly similar in ArcGIS 10.5: Once I identify a point, I would like to zoom into the point automatically, and once I do, have the Identify window dock to a position on the monitor so that I can actually SEE what it is I am identifying, instead of having to move it from being on top of the feature. Another thing I'd like to do is customize the Identify window so that X amount of attributes for a layer are in one "field" and the other set of attributes are in the next "field" over. This would be similar to the Fields tab in the Properties for any layer If there is a way to attach my illustrations to show what it is I am referring to I would love to hear it. Thanks, Daniel B

I do totally relate to the AGO issue of the docked Identify window, but at the same time, I have a reverse issue in ArcGIS 10.5: Once I identify a point, I would like to zoom into the point automatically, and once I do, have the Identify window dock to a position on the monitor so that I can actually SEE what it is I am identifying, instead of having to move it from being on top of the feature. Marco, Thanks kindly for the link to QGIS; there were a lot of fun things to look at, but how I'd integrate them into ArcGIS is beyond me. The big thing behind this is that this is something that should have been more than readily apparent from the get go for the design of the ArcGIS (or ArcView??) Identify user interface: 1) why are you tempting the user to think they can put in other info in a field that is blank when you extend the Identify window to see more attributes? 2) why does the Identify window have to be in front of the Identified object when the User clicks on it? Grr. I'm not trying to rag on the designers but what else is a rookie GISer supposed to think (YES YES YES that is who I am doing this for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Is there another software that I could use to do the same thing? One that's just as functional, recognizing the spatial element and then converting it into an informational window (tag?) and positioning itself appropriately?

Essentially yes, I'm seeing that. I haven't ever worked with ArcObjects but I have time on my hands at work so... If I was to go that way, how difficult do you think it would be to do something like that? I talked to ESRI Support and they mentioned ArcObjects and forwarded me to the SDK Desktop staff but I couldn't get through to them.

When I click on an item in a layer to identify it, only one attribute shows up in the Pop Up window! I have checked all the Properties I can think of, tried New Data Frames and New Projects, saving .mxd in an updated version of ArcGIS....nothing changes!! I can't remember doing anything with the layers that would change anything, although I VERY highly doubt that I did. I have never had this happen in my Life. I will check with others at my office to see if this is internal but I have a feeling its not. Thanks.

What if I have an application in mind that I wanted to create but when I see Workforce in ArcGIS I feel like everything I have in mind is already being done and so I wonder whether I should bother? I can see how my app is more marketable and affordable than Workforce but at the same time if might take longer to become real. Or is there anyone out there that knows where there might be a need for something like Workforce?

This is somewhat unique but the concept probably isn't given that we can do a Symbol Feature class or even a set of labels that we can use repetitively. I created a set of shapefiles from data that gets updated fairly frequently. I export the same shapefiles to a KMZ file as often as they are updated, but before I do, I have to turn off Fields in the Properties function for the shapefile and then apply a set of Aliases as repetitively as the files are updated. How can I avoid having to do the same procedure? Is there a way I can create a set of aliases that I can access from Properties for the same fields? I know that part of the problem is that when I use Table to dbase I have to eliminate all spaces and so I need to use underscores, which means that even if I had the correct field names in the spreadsheet I would still have to edit them in the Properties window. Is there a way to do a Find and Replace in Properties for all the underscores? The main thing is how to make the process work with a consistent use of the correct fields to get the final product. Thanks, Daniel Brenner
