Hi Rebecca.  I am on version 10.3.1 on both desktop and server.  I have created my services as cached with the option to create the tiles manually (because I want to create the tiles on my desktop). What I've done is: Make source imagery accessible to the server by way of an external hdd.  Add the imagery to a map and publish it as a cached service with the option to create tiles manually later.  Create the cache on my desktop.  Copy it to the server.  At this point everything is happy and working properly.  But once I disconnect the hdd with the source imagery that was referenced in the mxd I published, the cache service stops working.  Even though the cache remains untouched on the server. My most recent workaround is to publish an mxd with only a boundary polygon (a .shp located on the server) of the imagery in the map.  Then I complete the rest of the steps. ... View more

It would be so nice to be able to dynamically resample your highest level of detail so the images don't simply disappear.  That's really the way it should work, it has been that way forever in the desktop applications. It flies in the face of logic that ESRI would actually generate tiles all the way up to 1:70 for their imagery and topo services, given the processing, storage requirements, and the fact that most places aren't adding any actual additional detail.  But it sure seems like they did.  I couldn't find a definitive answer.  If they are being generated on demand, that server is cranking them out extremely quickly. ... Yes please.  Mosaic datasets are great for managing large sets of tiled aerial imagery.  There's nothing really fancy going on here, we just want to publish our aerial imagery as a map service, nothing that should warrant the purchase of another expensive extension. ... View more

Yeah Kevin, I really dislike that kind of stuff.  Controlling the organization and display of our data is as important as any other feature that is being built into WAB and ArcGIS Online. I'm not sure I understand how you think it "should" work when you have layers inside of group layers inside of group layers.  But I tested this idea in my app and found that I can have any combination of the layers/groups turned on by default, I just have to save it the way I want it in the ArcGIS Online map that gets consumed by the WAB app. Your description of the problem does sound like the same bug that Barnaby ran into.  So if you haven't looked into it, there is a workaround.  The obvious problem is, you have to disable the saving of the app's state (extent, zoom level, layer visibility) and I see from a previous reply that this is a welcome feature to you.  I guess for now you'll have to decide what is more important to your implementation and then hopefully ESRI will have the issue fixed with the next release, since they are aware of the problem.  I think they also mentioned that they may create a toggleable option for saving the app state, which would be a great addition.  I strongly dislike the feature and even though I've had a couple of users express interest in such functionality, I find it pretty irritating that it was forced on in the latest release without an easy way to control it in the configuration. ... Any resolution to this?  I also want to be able to zoom in further than my maximum cached scale, even if it means that I see a pixelated image.  Pretty much what the esri image basemap service does. ... View more

Robert, I definitely have to clear the browser cache.  I tried closing out all running instances/tabs of Chrome and it didn't fix.  I even went as far as shutting down my PC, but not clearing the cache, and that didn't fix it either.  I guess the other "fix" (not really) that I noticed is that if I put some features back into the feature class that is being searched, so it has the same number of features as it did before, it works again. This need to clear the cache made me wonder if the problem is with the cached version of the html template (SingleParameter.html?) or the "Processing unique values" message.  But I have no idea. As far as how serious this is?  At this point, not very.  I switched my configuration to not use unique values and to use the LIKE operator ("contains") and, while not quite as slick, is works just fine. Regarding an option to disable the unique values cache, that might be a decent option.  With smaller queries (the services I've been using have fewer than 10k records) the cost is not so bad.  But again, I'm okay with how I've got it setup now.  Thank you for looking into this! ... Robert, I've got a single parameter search that uses unique values.  The data that is being searched was edited and now contains fewer records than before.  The eSearch now won't proceed beyond "Processing unique values" (i.e., Processing unique values: 5667 of 5673). This can be fixed by clearing the browser's cache, but I really want to avoid situations where I have to instruct users to clear their cache.  So for now I'm going to setup my search without unique values, but I really do like using them, it's a great feature! ...
