Could you use the Erase tool, to eliminate the overlaps from your river and then calculate the area?

The only way I see is, creating a buffer around your points and using that polygon file to cut your street file.

Steven, you can sign up for a developer account, that one is permanent and gives you the same options that the 30 day trial gives. The only difference is that you will have fewer credits to spent, but it should be enough. Hope this helps! Tim

Once you have it set up, just load your layer into ArcGIS Desktop and then work on it so it looks like you want it to look (group symbology and only show trails). Once you have it setup like you want it, publish it as a feature service though ArcGIS Desktop to your ArcGIS online account. Let me know if you need help with that!

Don, when uploading your feature services with labels you also need to check Tiled Mapping. This will consume credits but you will have labels. I should have clarified that. Tim

Sophia, Do you have an organizational account? If so, did you upload your layer as a feature service through ArcGIS Desktop? Tim

Don, do you have an organizational account? If so you can upload your files as a feature service which also uploads labels. All you have to do is open an empty mxd, add your layer you want to upload, change the symbology and add labels, and then upload it through ArcGIS Desktop to your organizational content. If you don't have an organizational account , try this and this. Hope this helps! Tim

Chuck, - on the left side of the map click on "More Details..." - below the little preview picture of the map click on "Open" -> "Open in ArcGIS 10 for Desktop" - In your MXD that has been open you can just right-click the layer you would like and click "Data" -> "Export Data" (If it is a feature service, just save a local copy for editing) Hope this helps!

Joe, If you have an organizational account, I would add your normal road layer as a feature service and then also add a "damaged/closed" road layer, that has edit enabled. I would create this layer in a geodatabase, which enables you to create domains, which result in dropdown boxes once importat into ArcGIS Online. I would create one column called Active/Inactive depending if the road is still blocked or cleared (with this you can later do a summary of all roads that have been blocked/damaged, without having to delete them). Next I would have a column with the possibilities of the road condition (i.e. blocked, damaged, destroyed...). Later you can use this column to summarize different damage types. With the new changes coming to the ArcGIS Collector map, your field crew is able to digitize lines and with the dropdowns created in your geodatabase, they can gather information very quickly, regarding road conditions. Hope this helps! Fellow EOC GIS person, Tim 🙂

Vincent, if you make the map public everyone can see it. Make sure you use the link in your share button and not the actual map link you see in your address bar, because that bar starts with yourorganizationname.maps.arcgis.com which can only be accessed by your organizational accounts. You need the link that starts with http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap , which you can find when clicking on "Share" when your map is opened. Hope this helps! Tim

Mitchell, after your create your dual range address locator, make sure to right click your locator in ArcCatalog ->Properties -> Geocoding options There set "Match without house number" to "Yes" and set "Match with no zones" to "Yes". Now open a fresh MXD, if you have that locator already in use, remove it and then re-add it. If it is not in your list of locators just add it and use it. Now you should be able to find intersections. Tim

To export the layer from your ArcGIS Online account, you need to go to the feature services description page. There under layers click the dropdown triangle next to your layer name and choose how you would look to export it (shapefile, csv...)
