Pascaline, Lets say your attribute is NUMBER, just use the following code in your "Select By Attribute": NUMBER LIKE '%16777%' With this there can be anything infront or after 16777, the % is your wildcard. Hope this helps! Tim

Paul, the only way to do that is if you both have an organizational account. With the free account, there is no way of privately sharing a map. If you both have an organizational account, you can create a private group together and then only you two are able to see the map.

Did you upload a zipped shapefile or did you upload a feature service via an organizational account? If it is a zipped shapefile then you won't be able to find it, you can however make a map with it and use the shapefiles name as map name and make the map open to the public. If it is a feature service, make sure you allow everybody to see it. You can adjust those settings in the details page of your feature service.

Katie, here is what I would do: Open your mxd with the shapefile you want to upload. Symbolize the shapefile like you want it to look once uploaded. After that do the following. Click on "File" -> "Sign in..." and sign into your organizational account. Click on "File" -> "Share As" -> "Share as Service" -> "Publish a service" Choose My Hosted Services (My Account) and as Service name use for example Data In the Capabilities tab uncheck Tiled Mapping and check Feature Access. (This will prevent it from tile cache) In the Item Description tab fill in the required fields. Once you are done with that, click on Publish. This will upload your shapefile as a feature service with your uniqu symbology. Hope that explains it! Tim

1) When you copy and paste a layer within an mxd, the information comes from the same data source. This is why both layerss change. It is like adding the same layer to your map twice. If you want an actual copy of your layer: Add the layer to an MXD, right-click the layer in your table of contents, click Data -> Export Data... This will prompt you to name the new layer and where you want to save it. Where it says "Output feature class:" click on the folder icon, change the "Save as type:" to "File and Personal Geodatabase feature classes" and then navigate to your geodatabase. Double click the geodatabase and choose a name for your new layer. Once you set it up, click Save and hit OK it will create a copy and ask you if you want to add the copy to your MXD, now you have 2 different layers with 2 different data sources. 2) When you save an MXD it will only save what you have changed visually in your map. It is just a "area" to perform your edits in. Thats why even if you save it under a different name it will still hold your layers. Again my answer to number 1 should fix this issue. 3) An MXD is a workspace for you to Edit Data, make pretty maps, analyze... A geodatabase houses the data you work with. Kinda like a grocery store is your MXD and the items you sell in it are your layers. Sometimes items are within a carton, that is your geodatabase. Even if you rename your store (MXD) the items inside (your layers) will still be the same. 🙂 I hope this helps you at least a bit! Tim

You could upload your feature service through ArcGIS Desktop and setup your symbology there. Before you upload it, add a few example points and assign the symbology through one of your attribute fields. This requires an organizational account. Here is an example.

When you log into you ArcGIS online account, under my content, click on your layer. That should take you to the details page. In the "Layers" part of the page, click the small triangle drop down box next to the name of your layer. There you can export your file as a shapefile.

Rudy, somebody needed to host the point feature service within your ArcGIS Online organizational account, before you were able to edit points. Collector just consumes a ArcGIS Online map with added feature services, I don't see how you could be able to save a feature service on your tablet, unless you are not talking about the ArcGIS collector app but something else. Rudy, Go to https://www.arcgis.com/home/signin.html and sign in with your organizational account. Once signed in, click on My Content, or wherever the point feature is located in your account. Once you have found the point feature, click on the name of the feature. On the next page, the detail page, click on Open -> Open in ArcGIS for Desktop. This should open your layer in ArcGIS Desktop. Hope this helps! Tim
