After days of troubleshooting the services I finally called ESRI Tech Support. They determined that everything was fine with my server and my services but there was definite heavy SQL usage. So, their database team called me and seemed to instantly know what my problem was. It was the new "DEFAULTS" value for GEOMETRY_STORAGE in the dbtune table. In previous versions it was set to SDEBINARY, now in 10.1 it is set to GEOMETRY which is slower. I recreated my database feature classes using the SDEBINARY for the spatial type and everything is back up to the same speed as it was in 10.0 I used the sde command line tools to change the default setting to be SDEBINARY so that future feature classes that are created will use that. If we find that we need GEOMETRY for the spatial storage type we can always select it. Thanks, Luci

Great reading but I am still confused... So, in "Pooling" Each instance creates a SOC connection? So, if I have 1 min and 5 max, there will be anywhere between 1 and 5 SOC instances running? In "Processes" - if I run "low isolation" - because we do not edit, we just view data, and use 8 instances per process, each SOC instance from "Pooling" can have 8 user connections? Now, If the above is true and I have 70 services, do I need hardware to support 350 (70 services X 5 Max instances) SOC connections or do they share SOC connections between services? On the 10.0 machine we have every layer as its own map service (about 70 of them) and were told by ESRI that is the preferable method. On the 10.1 server I set it up the same way and was told again that was the preferred method. Is it? We are running the SQL geodatabase and Arcgis Server 10.1 on the same Windows 2008 R2 server that has 2 Xeon E5-2640 (6 core) processors with 32 gb ram. I moved the config-store directory back to the C: drive because everyone seems to think that slows Server 10.1 down. I still have all of the other Directories on the 😧 drive (1 TB) because the C: drive is only 278 GB. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Luci

Hi, We have been getting our new 10.1 server ready for production. When you compare the services and flex web app that we have on our 10.0 to our new 10.1 there is a noticable difference when you pan or zoom. The 10.1 server is much SLOWER. Any ideas on how to increase the speed? Thanks, Luci

Hey Doug, Not sure if you are having the same problem that we were experiencing. By default when you create a new geodatabase the maximum number of connections to the database is 48. That was ample with 10.0 but with 10.1 we were having problems. We first noticed that we were running out of connections in the 10.1 Arcgis Server log. It seems as though every one of the 70 services in Arcgis Server was making a connection to the database so we were already over 20 connections short. I called tech support and they showed me how to use the SDE command line interface to change the maximum number of connections to the database. I changed it to 200 and we have not had a problem since. The table that we changed was sde.SDE_server_config and the field was CONNECTIONS. Hope this helps, Luci

Well, after several phone calls and several attempts using as many different ways as you can to create a new geodatabase, it seems as though my server just did not like my database name. I used another database name and have not had any problems. FWBGDBpublic - cannot use this name on our sever - FWBPublicGDB - worked just fine - so after repairing data sources on all maps and republishing them everything is working as it should now. Thanks, Luci

Well, that is what I am not sure of, correctly setting up the proxy. Here is what I have in the proxy.config file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <!-- Proxy config is used to set the ArcGIS Server services that the proxy will forward to. mustMatch: true to only proxy to sites listed, false to proxy to any site --> <ProxyConfig mustMatch="true"> <serverUrls> <!-- serverUrl options: url = location of the ArcGIS Server, either specific URL or stem matchAll = true to forward any request beginning with the url token = (optional) token to include for secured service dynamicToken = if true, gets token dynamically with username and password stored in web.config file's appSettings section. --> <serverUrl url="https://www.arcgis.com/sharing/generateToken?parameters" matchAll="true" userName="our city username is entered here" password="our city password is entered here" referer="http://localhost/fwbjava/default.html"></serverUrl> expiration="1440" f="json" </serverUrls> </ProxyConfig> Anyone that uses our application will be on our network (either directly or via vpn) - it is not open to public - I do NOT want them to have to enter a username and password, especially those that are travelling in the fire engine responding to a call 🙂 Thanks, Luci

We are trying to add the directions widget to our javascript website. I am using the new 3.4 api. I have the directions widget showing up in a content pane. I can enter addresses in the widget. I know it is a "paid" subscription service. We have paid for the service. Everything keeps pointing me to a proxy page. I have downloaded the appropriate proxy for .net, I have added the proxy app to my IIS. I think I have configured the proxy.config file with the correct information for obtaining the token, but I am not really sure. Here is where I am getting lost. Anyone familiar with setting this up? Thanks in advance! Luci

It was a brand new server with a clean install of ArcGIS 10.1 Server, I was having other problems with it so I wiped it and started over. It is now giving me popups. I believe it was a server problem all along. I am not happy with 10.1 so far 😞 My filenames do match what is in my Flex app. 🙂 Thanks! Luci

Ok, I tried just the one service with all of my data in it and it ran just as slow. So, I uninstalled everything and started over. Everything seems to be running faster. The only problem I have now is that a couple of my map services are cross-linking data and I made another post for that subject. Thanks, Luci

Hey, I am experiencing problems with a couple of my map services. It seems as though they are cross-linking data. See ArcGIS 10.1 Server error log: I am getting an error about layer wFitting in map service FWBWater not drawing. The error right before that one references and "Invalid colunm name 'Subtye' for swFitting in map service FWBWater. Well, swFitting is not even IN the map service FWBWater - it is in map service FWBStormwater. When I use the "identify" tool in my flexviewer app and click on a swFitting, I get two popups - one for the swFitting data and one for wFitting data - any common field names are populated with the swFitting data in the wFitting popup. FWBGDBpublic is a SQL database FWBWater - is a dataset in FWBGDBpublic wFitting - is a feature class in FWBWater dataset FWBStormwater - is a dataset in FWBGDBpublic swFitting - is a feature class in FWBStormwater dataset NONE of the FWBWater data is in the FWBStormwater map service and NONE of the FWBStormwater data is in the FWBWater map service. Anyone else ever experience this? I have deleted the services. Recreated the services and still get the same errors. Thanks, Luci

Hey, We have over 60 services, but I would not consider that alot until now that we are attempting to get 10.1 to work. We have the same amount in 10.0 and we do not have the problems that we are experiencing with 10.1 I am deleting the services because I was advised to try a different approach. I am combining about 55 services into 1 service to see if that speeds things up. I tried to delete the service using arc catalog and that was just as slow. I will attempt to delete them manually! Thanks, Luci

Hi, I am trying to delete map services using the ArcGIS Server Manager - it is taking over 5 minutes to delete each service. At this rate, it will take me all day! They data was not copied to the server as it resides in a SQL database that is registered in the data store. I cannot fathom why it is taking soooo long to delete a service! Anyone else experiencing this problem? Thank you, Luci

The compiled version of my 3.0 version Flex Viewer app is physically located at: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\fwb and in a browser I reach it through http://fwbgis/fwb/index.html I also have the uncompiled 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 versions in Flash Builder 4.6 for testing/debugging and the popups do not work in any of the three versions there either. As stated above, if I go to this address: http://fwbgis/fwb/popups/popup_addresses.xml Thanks! Luci I can see the xml file
