Congratulations Joseph! He taught me everything I know! You can usually find him at the UC in the Map Gallery, Student Map section. He is just one of those remarkable individuals that you just need to experience.

Sorry Chad. I forgot to do this. See my recent reply to Philip. BUT... I have not completely gone through the solution in the Philip response because we had another issue with the incoming data format. The date/time stamp was not ISO 8601 compliant, so we had to append the zone ourselves in another calculation: replaceAll(EVENT_DT_UTC,'[.][0-9]+$','GMT-00:00') The result had to go to a json-websocket-out and back in through the json-websocket-in, to get the time/date into a DATE formatted field and create the geometry from X and Y text. Does all of that help you at all?

Philip, For us, the problem was simply the fact that this data feed was putting a '+' sign in front of the positive number. This forced the program to think it was text in the default locale. RJ Sunderman created a workaround. We brought any potentially POSITIVE number into GeoEvent and defined their field as a string. Also created a field for the conversion to a number and formatted it as Double for easier processing. You will see why in the next step. Field Calculation a. Remove any + from the string with the expression in the following pic... b. Place the result into the Double field. We then had to make an output and input for the middle of our model (Service) because the input is the only method that you can convert X and Y fields to geometry. Maybe RJ can chime in and note if I have anything wrong here.

...and I would like to ask the same. Our situation is mostly microwave connectivity, with a little fiber added in for alternate routes. Anyone from Esri Telecommunications User Group (Esri TelUG) or Utilities and Communications? Thanks, --Adam

Hello Everyone, I am wondering if anyone else has any problems or experience with GeoEvent Extension and VMware replication. Specifically, turning off a VM at one physical location and turning it back on in another. I have not read any documentation specific to VMware compatibility with GeoEvent Extension. I am also aware that there is a slicker way to do this in VMware such as VMotion over WAN, but we don't have the bandwidth to do that yet. In our current setup, there are a number of VMs that are replicated to an alternate operations center. If the primary location goes dark, we can spin up those VMs at the alternate location. We have manually done this to the GeoEvent VM and have found one issue. When I originally installed this VM, I configured GeoEvent with its local AGS as the machine name instead of "default". I set up all of my FS and Streaming outputs to this "machine named" registered AGS. Later on, one of the Esri GeoEvent guys added that "default" registered AGS for me. When the replicated VM was turned on at the alternate location, all of my FS and Streaming outputs were re-configured to use the "default" AGS connection. They showed as working in the GEManager, but no data was shown flowing. To correct: I opened the output Changed the ArcGIS Server Connection from "default" to my named server connection Changed the Name of the output. Saved the output. Of note, just changing the AGS Connection and saving did not work. If anyone has any other experience with this type of setup, or with VMotion over WAN, I would like to hear about your experience. Thanks, --Adam

Can you also use the commented line 84 in the index.html? // Uncomment and edit to use Portal for ArcGIS // var DEFAULT_SHARING_URL = "http://www.example.com/arcgis/sharing/content/items"; //var DEFAULT_PROXY_URL = "http://www.example.com/arcgis/sharing/proxy"; ...or is this something different?

It appears that the ArcGIS API for JavaScript has been updated in v3.13: https://developers.arcgis.com/javascript/jshelp/whats_new.html Look for new property purgeInterval. Now to wait for ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS to pick it up.

Matthew, I can't explain Portal for ArcGIS because I am not using it yet, but I would check before I made the assumption that it is able to be used by anyone without a login to search and use "public" items. Is "public a choice within Portal? If I am reading your question right... You cannot make ArcGIS Online "public" to only people within your organization. It would be public to the internet connected world. IF Esri allows it, Portal installed behind your firewall could hypothetically be available to users without a login for items made "public". Hopefully, someone from Esri can clear this up for us. Sorry - more questions than answers.

Hello, I am working with the GeoEvent extension and using ArcGIS Online to visualize streaming services. After awhile, I noticed that the tracks are not purging when a track is complete. Is there any way to purge tracks after they complete, or possibly are inactive for a short time? Thanks, --Adam

In the Symbology - Graduated Colors - Method (Manual Interval), I cannot modify the existing Upper Value to anything but a whole number. In the screen shot below, I started with another method by default and changed the Method to Manual Interval. Both values had decimals in them. When I tried to change those values, it would not let me add a decimal. In fact, when I deleted the tens decimal place, the decimal disappeared along with the tens position number without another backspace press. Is there a setting that I have to find and change? If not, this should be a bug entry. Thanks, --Adam

Stan, Thank you for your time. A little more may be required. Maybe a link to a help topic? I got to your number one instruction and got this as a result: {"error": {
"code": 403,
"messageCode": "GWM_0003",
"message": "You do not have permissions to access this resource or perform this operation.",
"details": []
}} I know little about the Development side of AGOL, but I can learn if I have to. Does the application have to be registered? I cannot make the app public. --Adam
