It works for me if I publish it this way. In the Share as Service windows selects option 'Save a service definition file'. Then, selecting the option 'No available connection'. Then choose the location where you want to save the definition file. Use ArcCatalog to browse to the just created definition file and right click and select 'Publish as a Service'. Hope this workaround also works for you guys. Sorry I missed this follow up post, was out for vacation during the holidays. This is a great tip. I just published a small sample map as a test and your method worked for me. No errors when I published from the definition file. I am going to try on one of the provided base maps next. Thanks for sharing. DT

After contacting ESRI, we were told to completely uninstall ArcGIS 10.1 from my PC and any associated elements. Then we were told to remove any residual registry hives left over and to delete any residual folders in C:/Program Files ... After doing all that, I reinstalled my ArcGIS components but still got the same error. Whilst the above suggestion didn't work for me, it may be useful to some of you. This bug is very strange to me as I can successfully publish the same mxd on my colleagues PC who has the same components, operating system and service pack. Wow that's a lot do to. Funny the definition query works with no issues in ArcMap. It only shows itself when the map is being published as a web service. Our GIS Systems Administrator believes it has to do with SQL Server and how it names things.

This NIM - NIM083369 - Analyzer error 00007: Layer's definition query is invalid appears when publishing enterprise data with a definition expression based on the geometry fields such as ORASPATIAL.States.AREA fields. has been addressed in ArcGIS 10.1 SP1. http://downloads.esri.com/support/downloads/other_/189810.1_SP1_Announcement.pdf ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 for Server is available from the Customer Care Portal - http://customers.esri.com. Please refer to the link below: http://support.esri.com/en/downloads/patches-servicepacks/view/productid/189/metaid/1913 Apparently it has not been fixed for everyone with release of SP1. Any additional help that can be provided?

Anyone has the solution for this issue? I got SP1 installed and getting this error when trying to publish a map service. In the MXD, there are some layers using Shape.STLength() in the query definition. We are still having the problem also. Even with SPs installed on both serer and desktop. Our GIS Systems Administrator seems to think it has to do with SQL Server and how it names things. Anyone else think of this angle?

I am trying to publish Local Gov Community map and General Purpose Basemap in 10.1 SP1 but still having Error 001272: Analyzer errors were encountered (codes = 7,7,7,...7). What else could possibly cause this error beside queries based on geometry field, which according to the previous post got resolved in SP1. Did anyone successfully publish Community map after upgrading to SP1? Thank you, Nizar We are still having problems with ours. It will publish only if we remove the definition queries that used SHAPE.STLength or SHAPE.STArea. The funny thing to me is that you can use these fields with no problems in label SQL processes.

Just a quick easy question, did you remove the quotes from the SHAPE.STLength() and SHAPE.STArea() values? Also before you tried publishing did you click analyze to see if it came up with any errors? If it did or had some high notifications you might check those out to see if there is anything you can correct that might alleviate the critical error. Good questions to check on. There were no quotes around the field names when published. Also I ran analyzer from ArcMap and from within the Service publishing window. Both times no Definition Query errors were reported. I did try once with quotes but of course that produced an syntax error on the query. Today I went in and removed any Definition Queries that used the SHAPE.STArea() or SHAPE.STLength() fields at all map view scales. With them removed the map service published with no error. This is really strange to me since these fields are used in some of the SQL label definition processes but do not produce any error. I'm good with removing the portion of Definition Queries that have this fields but concerned that it may have negative effects when we start to develop the various apps provided that hit off of these base maps. So still looking for a way to make it work "out of the box" Thanks for the reply.

Okay an update. I've been testing various options, settings, data layers today and found out the following. The error only occurs if somewhere in my map I have a definition query set that uses some type of physical measurement like length or area. I used the SHAPE.STArea() and SHAPE.STLength() in several layer definition queries. When I removed the definition queries the error went away and my sample map I created using just the layers in the reference feature set of the LGIM published as a map service with no issues. To further test I went into my sample map and created a layer definition query based on a non measurement value. I used Facility Sites layer and set a definition query based on government facilities (to show only government facilities) I kept all other settings the same and published the map service. Like the one with all definition queries removed it published just fine. So it looks like I have found what my problem is, layer definition queries using measurement values. Now I only have to figure out how to use those queries for better map drawing without getting the error message.

Hi all, I am working with the Nov release of the LGIM and base maps. We have migrated our data over from the 10.0 model and are now working to publish the base maps as map services. In anticipation of a server upgrade we did not utilize the map services or apps for 10.0 opting to wait until we made a full transition to 10.1 SP1 (desktop and server). The world of servers and map services is new to me. My GIS background until recently was in analysis and working with the data provided or created. I am excited to learn this side of GIS but have run into an issue when trying to publish the base maps as web services. I have created several smaller test maps and published without any problems. I've been working with the General Purpose map as a test and for my learning. I've followed the instructions for publishing in the help files and all seems to go well until I get a critical Error 001272 (see image) This comes during the "Creating Service Definition" part of the process. . In looking up the error code I came across a forum post that seemed to be similar in nature (Link to Forum Post). I've checked and both desktop and server have SP1 installed. So question is, anyone else having this issue and what do I need to do, check, change to correct this error. BTW when I run analyzer from the publish window I only get minor suggestions for improving performance and no errors. Any thoughts and direction will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, DT

Hi all, My background is in using GIS for analytic processes and all on one machine. I now find myself in the exciting world of servers and enterprise database models. We have adopted the LGIM structure to populate with our data. Currently I am working on learning how to publish map services. I seem to do great on simple maps I've created as suggested by tutorials with no errors produced. However I am having trouble with the above mentioned error when I try and publish the General Purpose base map provided as part of the LGIM. I am using ArcAdvance 10.1 and Advance Server 10.1. Both have SP1 installed but I still get the error. Is there something with the LGIM or base maps provided that I need to do before publishing out as a map service? Sorry if this is a newbie question, just getting into learning this side of GIS. Thanks for the assistance. DT

So far nothing from ESRI which is surprising since they usually have a good response. Sometimes I think ArcPad is their red headed stepchild. I do manually transfer files but find it frustrating that I have to do so.

I am ruining ArcInfo 9.3.1 on an ELA (Enterprise License Agreement) and ArcPad 8 on its own license (not part of the ELA). When I use the data manager to export my data for use in ArcPad I get an error message during processing. The error signature states: EventType : BEX P1 : ArcMap.exe P2 : 9.3.1.3000 P3 : 49c1abad P4 : ArcPadToolsGen2.dll P5 : 8.0.3.7 P6 : 4b625e03 P7 : 000dba47 P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000 ArcMap shuts down after the error and no data is processed. This event happen when i try to export as shape file or a AXF file. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong or what might be happening? Thanks, JT
