Performance From a performance standpoint, putting the associations in the asset package is the fastest way to load the associations for features contained in the asset package. You can always bulk load them later using the import associations tools, but if you do this after your data has been versioned it will be slower. Creating Associations You can create associations inside the asset package (based on spatial proximity) using the Create Association Records tool found in the UN Package Tools toolbox. You can also create your own tools or processes to load the C_Associations table in the asset package if you want. You can also create your own CSV file you can bulk load/import associations using the products Import Associations tool. You can create associations for newly created features by either using editing templates that contain associations (typically preset templates). You can also dynamically generate associations when features are created/updated/deleted using attribute rules.

If you use the tool to deploy an asset package to a mobile or file geodatabase it will deploy a v7 utility network. The utility network knows to create a utility network at v6 when deploying to an enterprise geodatabase and it is connected to an ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 Portal, so this is likely an issue with the UN Tools from ArcGIS Solutions.

You can quickly test this out using ArcGIS Pro 3.3 by copying the dataset to a local file geodatabase or mobile geodatabase. If you're testing against services, your ArcGIS Enterprise will need to have one of the Utility Network Data Management patches installed (this fix was included in the first patch). The trace does not need to encounter all the intermediate tiers between the start/target tier. In your example a downstream trace in a source-based domain starting at Tier A targeting Tier C would select all downstream features in subnetworks belonging to Tiers A, B, and C, as Tier A = Rank 1, Tier B = Rank 2, and Tier C = Rank 3.

Those are some very broad questions, but since none of this is utility network specific you be better served in posting these questions in some of the more specific communities (data management, experience builder, etc). At a high-level, each platform edits the same dataset using the REST endpoints but each application is built using a different set of APIs. Each platform has a similar editing experience, but they all differ slightly because of the APIs they use and the nature of the environment they run in. I wouldn't expect creating a feature using experience builder to call a GP tool, but I also can't tell which service you are referring to. From an end user perspective, editing data doesn't strictly require any procedure. You can directly edit branch version data directly, without creating a version because the applications will handle managing all the correct operations and transaction. Procedures get more complex depending on the requirements for quality assurance surrounding the workflow. If you try to create your own GP tool, python script, etc to programmatically edit data then you will need to mimic these behaviors.

What version/patch of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise are you using? This appears very similar to BUG-000148077.

I would recommend having the operating nut be a separate feature in the GIS with its own symbology. It would also be good to show a connection from the operating nut to the valve it operates or have a relationship between the two. Here's an example of how this is handled in the utility network, where an operating nut has a connectivity association with a system valve.

The data you've loaded likely has duplicate global ids, many topology errors, etc, and going through every user and system table to remove the duplicates can be quite time consuming and it can be easy to miss something. Because of this you likely haven't been able to do much in this new database, so I would recommend you create a new database and start over fresh by importing your data there.

I just double-checked, and the data dictionary and the asset package match. Remember that asset groups are synonymous with subtypes. Here is a screenshot of the subtypes (aka asset groups) on the structure boundary class: As you can see, they match the screenshot you provided of the data dictionary.

Can you reproduce the problem on the sample data included with the electric utility network foundation? When I test this out, I see the trace correctly stop midspan within a line segment (i.e. it's not stopping at line vertices).

Were there previously errors on those lines that were resolved by the configuration changes you made? If so, resolving those errors may have allowed the topology validation to examine them more deeply and discover these additional problems.
